I just love going away and have really loved most places. One place in particular really Underwhelmed me...Gibraltar...just like Britain in the sun! I'm sure it has so much to offer, but I couldn't wait to cross the border back to Spain!

The Grand canyon for me. I was completely overwhelmed by Niagra falls though.

MsHarry · 21/01/2018 17:05

EVERYBODY!!!! NYC IS BUILT UP!!! WHO KNEW????

Appraiser · 21/01/2018 17:06

Agree @franksidebottom I tried the say the same earlier but has fallen on deaf ears Confused

MikeUniformMike · 21/01/2018 17:07

AlpacaLypse, I think you mean Chartwell not Chatsworth.

TalkinPeace · 21/01/2018 17:09

New York - I just couldn’t see the appeal. Noisy and rude and built up.
BOOM
That wins the thread.

What did you expect from the city that never sleeps from the city that invented the skyscraper the city where the Twin Towers fell ???

And actually there are some fantastic views in NYC from the riverside paths and in Central Park and on the hilly bits of 34th street yup folks, Manhattan has hills

Madbengalmum · 21/01/2018 17:09

New york
Los angeles
Grand canyon
All massively underwhelming.

longta · 21/01/2018 17:27

How can anyone be underwhelmed by Haverfordwest? Where is it?

'New York is built up', this thread is wonderful.

mydogisthebest · 21/01/2018 17:33

I don't really know why I don't like Paris. I normally love cities - London, Barcelona, Prague, Berlin, Stockholm - loved them all. I also love France. Been on loads of holidays in France and travelled all over the country and loved it but I just don't like Paris.

I also love quite a few of the places mentioned on here - Brighton, New Forest, Edinburgh. Also really loved the Eden Project. Spent hours there and want to go back

The first time I went to Bangkok I flew home early as I hated it so much. It was a real culture shock when I hadn’t been to Asia before and had been living in the Middle East.
I kind of had to get used to it though as my parents and brothers lived there for 12 years and I’d fallen in love by the second visit. You need to visit with someone who really knows the city though. It’s cosmopolitan and really interesting like London, New York etc. Restaurant openings galore, art and culture. For people who live there the seedy side really doesn’t feature in their lives unless you want it to.

Coastalcommand · 21/01/2018 17:37

Dublin – overpriced and nowhere near as much fun as Belfast

Dubai – like being stuck in a shopping centre with heating turned up. I hate the exploitation and the way women were treated.

Barcelona – had our pocket picked and everybody who is mentioned it to say is I know somebody who it’s also happened to. You can get crime anywhere I know but I think Barcelona is particularly bad. Right thank you

Pisa. There is literally just a tower surrounded by a small market area and a few cafes. And I got mugged going back to my coach.

MsHarry · 21/01/2018 17:42

Pisa is famous for it's leaning tower. What else did you expect?

MsHarry · 21/01/2018 17:43

www.discovertuscany.com/pisa/

MsHarry · 21/01/2018 17:44

Does nobody research? I've just found that in 1 minute.

Same scenario. Went to Thailand from the Middle East and absolutely hated it. Stayed two days and went home on the aircraft I’d got off two days earlier. The crew thought it was so funny.

A year later I went back to give it another chance. I was going to a spa place for a fortnights cleanse in a different part of the country. I lasted 3 days that time.

I can’t stand the place. And when I recently spent 3 weeks in the Phillipines with no chance of escape due to very sad circumstances every day was an agony. I’ll never go back to the Far East but the Middle East is where my heart is.

Gillian1980 · 21/01/2018 17:47

Paris and Adan Francisco.

I’d spent 34 years desperate to go to SF and was so disappointed.

Gillian1980 · 21/01/2018 17:48

San Francisco, not Adan!

YetAnotherSpartacus · 21/01/2018 17:49

I agree with Dublin being underwhelming, nothing stand out or special about the city or architecture and the expense of it was depressing and really took the shine off the weekend I spent there

We are off there soon. Not been before. We want to see the Book of Kells, the Guinness factory (but wavering because this is looking increasingly like a tourist trap) and the Molly Malone statue. But I'm glad this is all because I think that accommodation costs were worse than London, so we are spending the rest of our time in pastures greener. Ireland seems expensive as a whole though.

crunchymint · 21/01/2018 17:59

I suspect Dublin is a victim of its own marketing. I have seen tourist adverts which make it look beautiful. Total disappointment.

Madbengalmum · 21/01/2018 18:02

Yup, agree Pisa is a dive.

Ginorchoc · 21/01/2018 18:03

Honestly Grin Stonehenge just a bunch of stones in a circles in a field, no shit Sherlock Grin Statue of Liberty small, Jesus wept, you need to understand the story of her presence and visit the museum on the Island. Grand Canon Hmm what was people expecting it to be? Travelling down it on the river seeing on the colours, the birds of prey and the fight for the land, how the water will eventually go, fascinating stuff.

Ginorchoc · 21/01/2018 18:07

I loved LA, agree re the homeless it’s also getting worse due to the hike in rent prices and landlords moving to airB reducing homes available they have a huge housing shortage.

LapdanceShoeshine · 21/01/2018 18:11

This thread gets funnier & funnier! Grin

Re the Cotswolds & “great if you like water sports” I can only think that person went to the Cotswold Water Park & assumed that’s all there is Confused

GetSomeGumption · 21/01/2018 18:14

Agra. Awful, stinking hellhole.

user1490465531 · 21/01/2018 18:24
