To think all cheap candles are hopeless?

I've been burning loads of different from cheap to mid priced candles over the last few months and I thought they were OK, today I've lit my Jo Malone ( last one I will be buying seen as they give so much free shit to 'bloggers') and the room is filled with fragrance and it's divine!!!!

Please give me some insight into brands that also do this... I always feel let down!

2nd the home bargains 1s here.
I love Yankee but the home bargains throws are fantastic. Especially the gingerbread 1.

here
Cold, there was a thread about candles before Christmas where I posted the above link. I used to love Yankee, but for me, Shearer knocks them into a cocked hat. The spiced orange is wonderful, as is the cinnamon. Today I've been burning a pineapple and rhubarb one and I also love the Egyptian cotton. Great prices, fast delivery, fantastic scents. What's not to love?

MalmseyWhine · 20/01/2018 21:20

Another vote for Shearer Amber Noir. I also bought candles from Limelight Bath at Christmas and they were great too.

Cadence70 · 20/01/2018 21:22

Paddywax are brilliant, just bought the Mark Twain tobacco flower and vanilla one
Also Urban Apothecary

Whatthefoxgoingon · 20/01/2018 21:24

Aldi candles are complete rubbish. I bought one after hearing they were as good as jo malone. They have no throw whatsoever.

Neom, diptyque, cire trudon are all good. I have large rooms and need candles with strength and huge throw to get anywhere near covering a room.

Need to try st eval.

IdaDown · 20/01/2018 21:28

Another vote for St Eval. Not crazy expensive like Cire Trudon or Diptyque.

Also Neom and Aromatherapy Associates.

eternalopt · 20/01/2018 21:30

I find the scent from wax melts much better and stronger than candles. Much cheaper way to get a Yankee candle scent filling the house

Snowysky20009 · 20/01/2018 21:31

I have a Jo Malone pomegranate one burning now- I won't swop to anything else.

doubtingdaisy · 20/01/2018 21:53

I've got a couple of Molton Brown candles but haven't lit them yet. Any opinions on them?

rankoutsider · 20/01/2018 22:17

I love NEOM, I think they are the best. I don't think anyone has mentioned true grace , about £20 from John Lewis, the Moroccan rose is amazing

MrsBB1982 · 20/01/2018 23:47

St Eval are better than Jo Malone especially if you factor in value for money. Amazing range of smells and can easily fill a room. Plus it's supporting local trade

BBTHREE76 · 21/01/2018 00:22

I am a bit of a candle obsessive and have many either part used or in a cupboard as backup. These include various Yankee candles, Aldi jo malone copies, white company, and my 1 and only jo malone candle. The best brand for lasting fragrance and strength of fragrance I have found (which was recommended to me on another MN candle thread) is Candleberry Candles. The smell fills the whole house and I currently have a “pink sugar” one.

LovingLola · 21/01/2018 11:56

Have just spent £70 on St Eval. !! Looking forward to getting them!

Wax lyrical is really good

GoodSouls · 21/01/2018 12:18

LA Bruket candles are amazing, they burn really well and last for ages, the grapefruit one is my all time favourite.

Cheap candles often have wicks that don't allow the wax to melt fully which is why you get only a half burned candle and the quality of the oils used is inferior so it smells good to start with but will still soon wear off.

elsmokoloco · 21/01/2018 12:25

I burn unscented candles because I like the ambiance, and I melt a range of Indie wax from vendors I have found in the States who ship to my mail forwarding US address. That way I have the reliability, great throw and 1000's of scents that Indi home fragrance vendors offer, and the cosy ambiance of a candle when I want. Also there are many months where it's too hot to burn candles, but I can still melt wax.

Haffiana · 21/01/2018 12:25

Diptyque. Until you burn one you don't know what a candle can really be like.

So yes, I completely agree. I have never had a better than 'adequate' candle from TKMaxx.

Motoko · 24/01/2018 09:20

I noticed today that Achica have candles from St Eval, Parks, and Shearer, amongst others, at the moment.

Goldenhandshake · 24/01/2018 09:26

The yankee candle wax melts are pretty good and have a brilliant range of scents.

JJo558 · 23/08/2018 12:59

You should really try Moonlight Melts.
Their products are amazing

PolkerrisBeach · 23/08/2018 21:02

Shearer candles. Awesome and good value.

WoWsers16 · 23/08/2018 21:22

I love Partylite candles and they’ve just got a woodwick out x gorgeous smells and I think good quality xxx

WhatFreshHellisCis · 23/08/2018 21:30

I’ve just discovered Neom and had no idea that they were sold at TKMaxx sometimes! No guessing where I’m going this weekend Grin

snoopydogg · 23/08/2018 21:35

Second Yorkshire Soap Company!! The £10 ones in a tin. Last for ages and my whole flat with the smell. As good as The White Company.

Lambzig · 23/08/2018 21:37

I love Miller Harris candles. On a part with jo malone prices but a richer fragrance I think. Turn up in TK Max occasionally too.
