In a fury re queue in cafe who was first

I was in a fury earlier this afternoon. re this scenario. DH said he thought I was in the wrong but I don't think I was. We went into this café/deli type place for tea. A woman was just in front of me through the door. She went to the deli counter. There is a sign just before the seating part that says queue here to be seated so I stood there. I was the only one in that queue. Then she called over table for two and swept passed. No other tables free.

So DH went out. As he probably thought I'd say something. Then they said around five minutes. So I said I'd be back later and that I could have shouted too. It has really put me off going in this place again although the food is nice. We went somewhere else which was nice too. But was really annoyed. (I know it's trivial.) DH said she was in the café first. So she was first. But she wasn't in the queue. Grrrrrr!!!

Apologies for using the word ‘queue’ so many times Blush

Rhoda - I get you now! Totally agree with the supermarket scenario. That is CF country.

Rebeccaslicker · 21/01/2018 09:23

Do mice fart??

misses point of thread

LockedOutOfMN · 21/01/2018 09:25

I agree with your DH.

Most cafés are staffed by kids at the weekends and the workers aren't paid enough to wade into queue etiquette beef between customers.

EarlessToothlessVagabond · 21/01/2018 09:33

Ah the British obsession with queuing. I love it. Grin

ButchyRestingFace · 21/01/2018 09:37

I have to admit this would piss me off. Blush

I don't think I would go so far as to stalk out of the cafe and go elsewhere, but inside my head...

DagenhamRoundhouse · 21/01/2018 17:23

Pick your battles........

DagenhamRoundhouse · 21/01/2018 17:27

M&S have signs with arrows saying 'queue from here' and these are often ignored.

DagenhamRoundhouse · 21/01/2018 17:30

I remember Marian Keyes in one of her autobiographical pieces saying that in a certain country queuing was unheard of and you fought for your place like a refugee at a Red Cross feeding station. I guess we are quite lucky in this country!

DagenhamRoundhouse · 21/01/2018 17:33

Don't ever go to the cafe at the Slimbridge Wildlife Reserve on a nice day. It resembles aforementioned Red Cross feeding station!

Whitecurrants · 21/01/2018 17:41

Four pages and no diagram? Confused

wandrewarren · 21/01/2018 17:45

If she was on her own, why did she want a table for two? Isn't that the real problem here?

PricillaQueenOfTheDesert · 21/01/2018 17:51

Some of these replies have made me laugh.

Shame you didn’t have that attitude when you was in the queue for your pot of tea, instead you was in a fury! SMH

CheapSausagesAndSpam · 21/01/2018 17:53

She wasn't going to get something at the counter though....she wanted a table and went to the wrong area.

She was first.

Treacletoots · 21/01/2018 17:55

So this poor woman probably missed the sign, asked at the deli and was seated first. Because.. she was there first!

Expecting to be seated before her even though you arrived after on what is, let's be real a very teeeny technicality.

Everything happens for a reason and karma is a bitch. If she really didn't deserve to go first and took the piss then I can guarantee a pigeon probably shit on her head on her way out, otherwise, save your anger for things that truly deserve it (crocs, non disabled parking in a disabled spot, blue eyeshadow etc) and save yourself a bit of high blood pressure down the line.

Speaking from experience on that last one!

FurCoatFurKnickers · 21/01/2018 18:01

If she was on her own, why did she want a table for two?

Maybe her friend/partner/family member was joining them?

If the OP had bothered to wait the 5 minutes until they could be seated she could have told us if this was the case. But she flounced instead.

Beeziekn33ze · 21/01/2018 18:04

Wandrewarren - Deli woman probably wanted a table for two because her DH was waiting outside until she had a table in case his DW embarrassed him.
Or he'd seen OP approaching the café.
Or she was expecting a companion who hadn't yet arrived,.

Viviennemary · 21/01/2018 18:07

OK I'm back but only to answer a question. Woman's friend came in a couple of minutes after us. Anyway after this onslaught doubt I want to enter a café ever again. Grin

Nottheduchessofcambridge · 21/01/2018 18:10

God you sound like my friend, do you work in the tax business? I would have walked out in embarrassment too.

FurCoatFurKnickers · 21/01/2018 18:12

Anyway after this onslaught doubt I want to enter a café ever again

Probably for the best if you get into a fury about someone in front of you being served first.

Whatshallidonowpeople · 21/01/2018 18:15

Of course she was in the queue 1st. And who would get in a fury about that, what do you Do if something important happens?

OliviaStabler · 21/01/2018 18:34
