To ask if you've had Pneumonia, how did you know it wasn't 'just a cough'

Had a cough since Tuesday, I've called in sick for the weekend. I'm not starting to feel any better.

I have a temp of 39.5 and my sputum is now brown, it's really hard to cough up anything but it's always there. Lots of vomiting caused by the coughing, I feel bloody awful.

Drs on Thursday said it was viral but I'm not so sure now, I feel like I have the flu, I also have a uti which I'm on antibiotics for but they won't treat a chest infection.

Is it time to go back to OOH tomorrow? Or tonight? I all of a sudden feel really unwell. I'll have to wake DH up to take me but I don't feel like this is just a cough any more

Oh OP, so scary and horrible. I hope you got a lot of morphine and managed some sleep last night. Sending you all the get well soon vibes.

JustVent · 25/01/2018 08:18

OP, in the grand scheme of things it’s excellent that your temperature is reducing and the fluid from your chest is clear.

But I’ve no doubt that this is marred by your loss. It’s absoluely heart breaking.
I hope you slept ok in the end and they gave you something.

TremendousWorkGodfrey · 25/01/2018 09:00

I feel so sad for you OP, I'm so sorry you're going through all of this Flowers

Wallywobbles · 25/01/2018 11:37

Coughing til I peed myself endlessly. Sweet paper noise in my chest that I could hear. You need a chest X-ray to tell. I've had it twice. 2nd time I had a temp of 42 that I could not get down. Couldn't get out of bed, basically delirious or unconscious, but totally different from the first time.

juliesaway · 25/01/2018 11:41

If you have a real “weak” feeling inside and drained of energy whilst breathing, it’s almost certainly a chest infection at least. Awful. Get some antioniotics. Hope you get better soon

Wallywobbles · 25/01/2018 11:52

Oh Christmas I'm sorry. You are due some really fine things in your future to make up for this fuck cluster. Any chance that your GP could be told what she missed and the consequences?

steppemum · 25/01/2018 11:52

Oh Op, just foudn this thread, what a crap mix of things

Flowers

to those saying you can't have pneumonia and be up walking etc, my Mum had a cough and felt rough, made a gP appointment, drove herself there, the GP called an ambulance, once in hospital it became apparent she was really sick, and she was much worse for several weeks and we were told to get my brother back from overseas etc Sad
She is, thankfully, now fine! But it was a horrendous time, and there is no way she would have driven to the GP if she hadn't felt well safe to drive.

1wokeuplikethis · 25/01/2018 11:55

Oh OP, so sorry you're going through all this. Life can be so bloody hard. Thinking of you Flowers

aaaaargghhhhelpme · 25/01/2018 11:57

Sending you and your lovely DH massive hugs. X

ILoveDolly · 25/01/2018 12:20

So sorry about the miscarriage. All the best x x Flowers

GrockleBocs · 25/01/2018 13:02

Good grief you're really having a horrible chain of events :( Hopefully you're turning the corner on the illnesses but it's going to be hard to feel positive after your loss Flowers
Is there another GP's surgery you can change to once you are well? I imagine you'd struggle to have any faith in your current GP ever again.
My pneumonia was a walk in the park compared to what has happened to you. I had bronchitis that started to get better with antibiotics and then suddenly got worse and worse.

Christmastits · 25/01/2018 13:22

I actually feel more human today, I don't feel like I'm going to die, so that's good. Thank you for all your kind words. My DH has taken time off work and hasn't left the hospital in days so I sent him home to shower and sleep. My colleague has come down on her lunch break to say hi.

I do feel very very loved

Your DH sounds like a good man. How are you coping mentally?
