To be baffled by people who don't put liners in their bathroom bins

witchofzog · 19/01/2018 10:57

At least 2 of my friends don't. When I moved in with dp I realised he doesn't. And my job involves me being in people's homes and many of them don't either.

I just don't get it. We don't do this with our kitchen bins which albeit are a lot messier, but some unsavoury things go in bathroom bins too

I find it really grim when I realise that dp has emptied the bathroom bin and not put a liner in it. Inevitably one of us will end up scraping one of the dsd's partially wrapped sanitary towels from the side of the bin. We wouldn't have to do this if there was a liner.

Do you put a liner in yours?

We don't have a bathroom bin. I guess that's a bit baffling too Grin

DailyMaileatmyshit · 19/01/2018 10:59

No. I'm trying to reduce plastic waste.

MyDcAreMarvel · 19/01/2018 10:59

No I don't use a liner, sanitary towels are wrapped in the plastic of the fresh one.

BekoLeGecko · 19/01/2018 11:00

Always line it!
with cheap carrier bags

JacquesHammer · 19/01/2018 11:01

No I don't line it.

I don't see the need really.

BusterGonad · 19/01/2018 11:01

It's their bins, let them put a bag in it if they wish. I can't get worked up over this tbh.

MatildaTheCat · 19/01/2018 11:02

I’m baffled that I’ve even clicked on this thread.

BusterGonad · 19/01/2018 11:02

Me too Miltilda.

steppemum · 19/01/2018 11:03

well, I have only recently started using liners, snce my dd started her periods. Other than that the main waste is loo rolls and empty shampoo bottles and it didn't need a liner.

With the whole plastic waste issue, I will have to think about what we do next

user1493413286 · 19/01/2018 11:03

Until your DP ends up scraping one out I doubt that would have occurred to him. I only put a plastic bag in when I know something like that might be going in.

Muffette · 19/01/2018 11:04

I line them but reuse the liners so as not to use too much plastic (so empty my bathroom bins into a larger paper bag when necessary) so still end up scraping st's and gum. Not pleasant but neither is ever lasting plastic.

BoredOnMatLeave · 19/01/2018 11:05

I don't line ours. The only thing that goes in there is empty loo rolls and shampoo/shower gel type bottles, which is minimal, since I moved to bars.

Bonus of a mooncup I guess?

minipie · 19/01/2018 11:05

I don't line ours but I don't use sanitary products (I have a mooncup) so there's nothing particularly yucky that goes in there. In fact hardly anything goes in.

Frouby · 19/01/2018 11:06

I don't because I am also trying to reduce waste.

When me and dd are using sanpro I just make sure we wrap them well in the new ones wrapper. And make sure I empty the bin daily into the kitchen bin then out to the main bin.

I am hoping our council starts collecting plastic from the kerbside soon. And then will experiment with not using liners in the kitchen bin too. I have a water butt at the side of the back door so am thinking if the bin is emptied daily into the black bin (which has a bin liner in) and give it a quick swill out it might be fine.

witchofzog · 19/01/2018 11:07

I'm not worked up by it. I just don't understand it. I line mine with either an old carrier bag or the toilet roll bag. It just seems a lot more hygienic. I accept it is more environmentally friendly not to though

OP posts:
NotWithABang · 19/01/2018 11:09

No we don't put a liner in ours. Also no sanitary products that go in it as I use cloth pads. V rarely need to empty ours in fact

PasDeDeux · 19/01/2018 11:10

We dont put a bag in ours, but nothing 'dirty' gets put in there. It is only used for the plastic cap you get on razors, or loo rolls (which do get recycled).

earlybirdhasanap · 19/01/2018 11:10

I just clean mine out every time I clean my bathroom and empty the bin.

SilverySurfer · 19/01/2018 11:11

No bathroom bin hence no liner.

witchofzog · 19/01/2018 11:18

I guess it depends on what goes in it. If just razors, shampoo bottles etc then no liner is perfectly fine. But if there is sanpro involved then I think a liner is better. My dsdd's do use the new wrapper to wrap their used towels but they often unfold and have to be manually removed. It's not a nice job.

OP posts:
saladdays66 · 19/01/2018 11:19

No, I never line ours. Unncessary plastic waste. Sanpro is wrapped. And I don't have to touch it when I empty the bin.

JacquesHammer · 19/01/2018 11:19

The only thing that goes in my bathroom bin are cotton pads, face wipes, tablet packets and sanpro once a month.

Recycling gets sorted as its used up so I just upend the bin into a bin liner, then wipe it out.

thecatsthecats · 19/01/2018 11:19

No liner here - no sanpro in our household, and I always put mine in the wrapper in my parents house.

The little bit of showergel dribble or toothpaste in there doesn't smell and doesn't bother me so I don't wash it either.

theunsure · 19/01/2018 11:21

No liner here either, never had the need.

roomsonfire · 19/01/2018 11:24

Sanitary disposal bags are your friend OP. You can get them from superdrug or boots and you might want to get the DDs used to using them before you have the flushed tampon issues.

nappy sacks are cheaper but the ones from Sanpro bags from superdrug are a darker purple so hides whats inside a bit better.
