To be baffled by people who don't put liners in their bathroom bins

At least 2 of my friends don't. When I moved in with dp I realised he doesn't. And my job involves me being in people's homes and many of them don't either.

I just don't get it. We don't do this with our kitchen bins which albeit are a lot messier, but some unsavoury things go in bathroom bins too

I find it really grim when I realise that dp has emptied the bathroom bin and not put a liner in it. Inevitably one of us will end up scraping one of the dsd's partially wrapped sanitary towels from the side of the bin. We wouldn't have to do this if there was a liner.

Do you put a liner in yours?

OMG DailyMaileatmyshit doesn't have any floss! Please tell us you have a water flosser or this thread could really kick off!

Interdental brushes

MichaelBendfaster · 19/01/2018 17:53

sanitary stuff goes straight into kitchen bin

So every time you want to bin some sanitary stuff, say if you're in your bedroom in an evening and nip to the bathroom to do it, you have to schlep to the kitchen and then back?

Saysomethingnice · 19/01/2018 18:02

Don't line mine either... Occasionally sterilise without detol and boiling water but I think it's easier to put bag in it, will do this when I remember but not stressed about it

IfYouDontImagineNothingHappens · 19/01/2018 18:03

No-one in my house uses disposable san-pro but I provide small bags for guests if they wish to use them.

SpeckledyHen · 19/01/2018 18:08

Never owned a bathroom bin . Every piece of bathroom rubbish goes straight into the downstairs bin or recycled so no need for one .

MikeUniformMike · 19/01/2018 18:10

How can I recycle dental floss?

ocelot41 · 19/01/2018 18:14

Nope - reducing plastic here too. Wrap in toilet paper, empty regularly, then wash out. Job done.

Urubu · 19/01/2018 18:15

Only empty shampoo bottles and loo rolls?
Not really Hmm
Without even talking about sanpro, where do you put the wet hair that ends at the bottom of the shower? And hair that comes out when you clean your hairbrush?
Where do you put cotton pads soaked with makeup remover?
And what about used earbuds?
And tissues?

PrimalLass · 19/01/2018 18:17

Why is MN so obsessed with bathroom bins at the moment?

WineAndTiramisu · 19/01/2018 18:18

Urubu I'm with you on that one, mine is always lined and usually has used cotton buds, manky hair from brushes and the shower, sanpro/pant liners etc, no way I'm not having a liner!

pieceofpurplesky · 19/01/2018 18:19

I don't use one as I try to recycle everything. Sanpro wrapped in new wrappers, bin bleached at least weekly.

Although today there is a half eaten baguette in it - not sure why DS has put it in there ...

PricillaQueenOfTheDesert · 19/01/2018 18:24

I’ve never used a liner, the bathroom bin only tends to have shampoo bottles, toilet roll middles, make up removing wipes or cotton pads and old razors in it.

Desperate to reduce my plastic consumption now too, so the bin doesn’t take very much rubbish.

PrimalLass · 19/01/2018 18:25

It is about 30 steps away, not a half-hour walk.

BeyondThePage · 19/01/2018 18:29

mine is not lined but it is essentially a plastic bucket inside a nice outer - tip bucket into wheely bin, wash bucket, replace.

MichaelBendfaster · 19/01/2018 18:39

Prima, sure, but isn't it more convenient to just have a bin to pop it in? To go between two rooms (bedroom and bathroom) rather than bedroom, bathroom and kitchen?

PrimalLass · 19/01/2018 18:57

It's so little an inconvenience that it doesn't even register. I do have a bathroom bin downstairs, but wouldn't leave anything manky in it.

MikeUniformMike · 19/01/2018 19:28

I have visions of people popping from the bathroom to the kitchen with a saturated tampon in their hand. nice.

Olivo · 19/01/2018 19:44

Blimey, I didn't know this was such a thing! We don't line ours and I don't use gloves to empty. They are regularly emptied into the bin bag before it goes out and then I rinse out and spray with Dettol or bleach, then wash my hands.

Prepared to admit I have slovenly ways! After reading this!

Allthewaves · 19/01/2018 19:47

Nope don't have liner as they look messy.

5plusMeAndHim · 19/01/2018 20:06

Don't use a bin liner but then I'm not planning on eating my dinner out of it.

5plusMeAndHim · 19/01/2018 20:09

I don't use one as I try to recycle everything. Sanpro wrapped in new wrappers, bin bleached at least weekly

You don't think your bleach might do more harm than the plastic would?

wowfudge · 19/01/2018 21:11

I knew someone would comment on the use of bleach.

bananafish81 · 19/01/2018 23:42

I'm trying to imagine shuffling down to the kitchen with handfuls of stuff rather than have a bin in the bathroom

Contact lens packets daily
Used pantliner daily
Cotton buds yes I know nothing in my ear smaller than my elbow so sue me
Cotton pads daily

Used razor blades
Dental floss daily
Blister packs of medication
Hair from bathtub and hairbrush

Even if kitchen wasn't 2 floors down it's a lot easier to dispose of stuff there and then rather than run down to the kitchen when I've gone up to bed

Each to their own!

DailyMaileatmyshit · 20/01/2018 00:44

I have to say, our bin has so little in it and nothing manky it only gets emptied when full.

ExConstance · 22/01/2018 10:37

I only have plastic bottles and cardboard because.
no sanpro used in our house. I use a flannel to remove make up with face wash. My hair doesn't seem to come out, and any bits in my hairbrush go into the big bag I take round the whole house the day the cleaner comes. DH has hardly any hair anyway. We don't buy tissues, have a spare loo roll for nose blowing and if the nose is blown in the bathroom it goes down the toilet.
