To be baffled by people who don't put liners in their bathroom bins

witchofzog · 19/01/2018 10:57

At least 2 of my friends don't. When I moved in with dp I realised he doesn't. And my job involves me being in people's homes and many of them don't either.

I just don't get it. We don't do this with our kitchen bins which albeit are a lot messier, but some unsavoury things go in bathroom bins too

I find it really grim when I realise that dp has emptied the bathroom bin and not put a liner in it. Inevitably one of us will end up scraping one of the dsd's partially wrapped sanitary towels from the side of the bin. We wouldn't have to do this if there was a liner.

Do you put a liner in yours?

ALWAYS line any bin! Top Mumsnet tip I picked up was to leave a roll of bags at the bottom of all bins it means you're not faffing about looking for a liner when you empty it and anyone who empties the bins should get the hint!!!

Ollivander84 · 19/01/2018 12:40

I hate it when people don't have a bin! I have to use people's bathrooms throughout the way and when I'm on my period I take nappy sacks plus tampons/pads but then I have to stuff the used one in my pocket (in the bag) before I can bin it outside

Elphame · 19/01/2018 12:43

They take a moment to rinse out when cleaning the bathroom. I find liners a total waste of plastic.

No I don't, when I empty the bins I give them a clean before putting them back.

Fwiw, you should live next door to my neighbours. They don't even have a kitchen bin. You can guess the state of their dustbin 😯

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 19/01/2018 12:48

I don't have a bathroom bin but the ones in the kitchen and bedroom are both lined. Sanpro goes in nappy sacks and into the kitchen bin which is emptied most days (bathroom is off the kitchen so I'm not carrying it through the house).

I will switch to biodegradeable nappy sacks and bin liners at some point but we got so many of each when we cleared DM's house that it won't be for a long time yet!

Sparklingbrook · 19/01/2018 12:50

Eww yuk to no liners.

I use little pedal bins with liners. Any of the family, or any visitor can put whatever they like in those bins. i do not inspect the contents (recycling stuff doesn't go in these bins) I just knot the liner, then take it out.

I also keep spare liners under the liner that's being used, ready to replace.

This subject always splits MN. Grin

Bathroom bin lined with an old reusable carrier bag plus sanitary ware in nappy bags.

phoenix1973 · 19/01/2018 13:02

Ive got 3 bathroom bins plus childs bedroom bin. I just tip all bins into the biggest bin then empty. No liners and i wear rubber gloves.

Ski4130 · 19/01/2018 13:04

MN is divided between 'they are must, why would you and any visitors want to parade through the house with used sanpro, you non bin weirdos' and 'bathroom bins are disgusting and unnecessary' (never any explanation as to why!)

The rubbish in our bathroom is either recyclable (shaving foam cans/old toothpaste tubes) or it's my sanitary towels, neither of which I want to leave sitting in a bin in the bathroom.

Recyclable stuff gets taken straight downstairs and put in the recycle bins, and sanitary towels get wrapped and binned in the wheelie bin. Any other rubbish (only tissues that I can think of) get flushed down the loo.

Cherrycokewinning · 19/01/2018 13:06

No liner here. I was brought up to never put San pro in the bathroom bin as it’s not emptied as frequently as the kitchen

Smidge001 · 19/01/2018 13:07

No liner here. I think it looks messy, as well as being bad for the environment. I wrap used sanitary items in toilet paper or the wrapping of the next new one. Very occasionally one might stick to the side but I don't find it an issue to take it off Hmm. I touched it in the first place after all! I wash the empty bin and wash my hands afterwards - really don't see the issue.

Sparklingbrook · 19/01/2018 13:09

I think it's so much nicer for visitors, and all bins in this house are emptied every day.

Snugglepiggy · 19/01/2018 13:13

No liners in any bins now.Rubber gloves on and everything straight into wheelie bin.Do put a liner in that but that means one lot of plastic per fortnight.Don't need sanitary pads anymore, and discovered moon cup way too late, just towards end of needing one.Absolutely brilliant. Everything else is pretty much ok to handle with gloves anyway.we're all too squeamish and germ obsessed. And I say that as someone who loves to clean.Quick bit of bleach and hot water.Swill out and dry with it of kitchen roll.Give gloves a good scrub under a hot tap with soap (not my washing up gloves hasten to add )Job done. All these little plastic bags been driving me crazy long before Blue Planet .

wowfudge · 19/01/2018 13:14

There was a thread a while ago about even having a bathroom bin which turned into a right old bunfight. I use biodegradable bags for disposing of sanitary protection. The bathroom bin has a washable plastic liner. I wipe the liner when I clean the bathroom. I don't have spare carrier bags - you barely even see carrier bags these days - and using the bag from the loo roll wouldn't fit and would only happen about every six weeks.

Sparklingbrook · 19/01/2018 13:21

It went on and on didn't it wow, it was really odd, all about bedsite lamps and stuff too. People not wanting to make other feel at home and relaxed when visiting .Confused

It may still be raging. Grin

ClaryFray · 19/01/2018 13:25

I don't even have a bathroom bin Shock

Willow2017 · 19/01/2018 13:50

My bathroom bin has a liner. It gets washed out simples.
San pro is wrapped in loo roll then new ones cover nothing to see or touch!
No need for never ending plastic bags.

We don't have floss or cotton pads, and cotton buds are used rarely and in the bedroom. I don't have an issue fishing out the odd rogue pad (wouldn't be mine but I've handled worse things!).

hibbledibble · 19/01/2018 16:02

Yabu

I dont line the bin. I use cloth pads. Only old toilet rolls and empty toiletries go in the bin.

Enough plastic waste. Biodegrable plastic does not degradebin landfill either.

Noodledoodledoo · 19/01/2018 16:09

I am in no liner camp waste of plastic. All our bins have little buckets inside them so easy to wipe clean/empty. Yep they include grim stuff but have dealt with worse. Also dont use one nappy bag per nappy but wait till they are filled up!

CheeseyToast · 19/01/2018 16:11

All you plastic bag fanatics are so behind the 8 ball regarding the environment that it's scary.
