£180.00???????????????

I am neither pro or anti royals.

But £180.00 for a buzz cut (William). My DP buzzes his own head every fortnight in the garden for free.

As I understand it (prepared to be told that I'm wrong about this) but don't they get some kind of state handouts? Is this a reasonable use of our money?

I know they have to live in horrible old houses that probably cost a fortune to heat and maintain and I shudder to think about the council tax, but £180.00 for a buzz????

NHS? Schools? Social care? Roads? Potholes? Police? National security? Investment in environmental products - replacing plastics etc? Charities? Legal aid for those disenfranchised? Social justice campaigns ........ Sorry ....... You get the idea.

AIBU????

No, the royals DON'T get state handouts, anymore than they get lots of freebie clothes or jewellery which is the other common misconception. They get a salary paid from their relevant Duchy and have to buy their own things like anyone else! Really winds me up when people whinge about royals sponging off the taxpayer... Angry taxpayer money only goes towards expenses that are necessary for their 'jobs' (so state banquets, upkeep of residences or security) - any personal expenses come out of their own pocket. If William wants to blow £180 on a haircut, it's no-one's business but his own.

Found it , not keen think it makes him look like Stephen Kinnock

Mrsmadevans · 19/01/2018 09:02

Thank you for the link South

nursy1 · 19/01/2018 09:02

Great. Now we just need to work on his dress sense ( he looks like someone from the 1950s) and get him a tattoo

newyearwhoohoo · 19/01/2018 09:03

Surely Catherine could get a pair of clippers, set to number 1, and do it for him as I do for DH! Only takes a few minutes. I pay a lot less than £180 for my lowlights!
As PP have said, the Cambridge's don't take any taxpayers money - apart from security arrangements, which are publicly funded.

Ariela · 19/01/2018 09:05

'Reportedly' paid. That's a central London reputable hairdresser home visit sort of price, not unexpected, and probably could have been obtained by asking for a quote.
Likewise, I could wander into The Hair Company in Wargrave High Street and find out how much Theresa May pays for her awful puddingbowl cut. If I 3was bothered. Hairdresser stays open late, we know she is in there because we know her bodyguards, nobody else lurks on the High Street in Wargrave, especially in a dark shuit - all the shops have long gone bar the art gallery and the hairdresser.

k2p2k2tog · 19/01/2018 09:14

DH has a similar hair cut - No 2 all over. We bought a set of clippers about 15 years ago and I've been cutting it myself ever since. Sure Kate could do the same!

IvorBiggun · 19/01/2018 09:18

have to live in horrible old houses

Hahahahahahaha Hahahahahahahahahaha Grin Grin

Randomlywondering · 19/01/2018 09:21

That hairdresser is laughing all the waybto the bank! You have to wonder how much Kate's costs if they're paying £180 for a buzz cut.

Justanotherzombie · 19/01/2018 09:21

You're looking at this wrong. Someone just earned £180.

Sparklingbrook · 19/01/2018 09:23

I haven't the energy for royal bashing.

There was a thread yesterday worrying about whether Harry and Meghan would be ok. Confused

SomeOldFogey · 19/01/2018 09:27

I'm just bloody sick of hearing about these bloody over-privileged people. You can't look at anything without hearing about the fact that they sneezed or wore this or looked at that. Who cares ffs? I'm sick of the media focus on celebrities too. I'm old enough to remember when we used to laugh at the Americans for their celebrity fixations.

IMightMentionGriddlebone · 19/01/2018 09:28

With William's haircut? Grin

IvorBiggun · 19/01/2018 09:28

There are some properly bonkers threads in general at the moment. No matter what happens, from the most serious to the most mundane (eg horrific abuse or Royals getting married) there will be someone who manages to make it all about them.

It’s all I can do not to write “Get some fucking perspective!”.

Rebeccaslicker · 19/01/2018 09:29

Some men look brilliant with shaved heads. Sadly William would have looked better if he could have kept his thick golden locks.

Ah well, it happens to enough of us. I looked a lot better without my grey hairs and spare Michelin tyre (it's one for a truck, not just a Ford Fiesta!).

petbear · 19/01/2018 09:34

Who gives a shit?

Anyway, I have seen people on here stealth boasting about their trip to the hairdresser that cost £250, which they thought was a bit much as they usually only pay £225. Hmm

You need to get out more @undercoverbanana if such trivialities are upsetting you so much, that you need to start threads on mumsnet about them

Newsflash! They are the ROYAL FAMILY, they are going to spend a BIT more than 'peasants' like us, and they are here to stay.

FairfaxAikman · 19/01/2018 09:34

I think the problem is not so much whether the money is his or the taxpayers, more it's incredibly insensitive to be spending that on a haircut that could be done for free at home when there are "subjects" living in the breadline.
It's a bit Let Them Eat Cake.

JaneEyre70 · 19/01/2018 09:36

Poor Wills - morphing from the worlds most eligible batchelor to his Dad in 10 years............ it does look a lot better though!

19lottie82 · 19/01/2018 09:37

He was hardly going to pop down to his local Turkish barbers for an £8 special, was he?

PortiaCastis · 19/01/2018 09:39

I would think that's bullshite as he's probably got his own personal barber, anyway who cares especially when you get braggers on here stating outrageous prices for hairdos.

IvorBiggun · 19/01/2018 09:42

I would love it if Wills popped down the local Turkish barber Grin

The place dh goes puts a lit splint in ears and on necks to get rid of unsightly sproutings Shock

IMightMentionGriddlebone · 19/01/2018 09:43

I can't imagine the economic situation will be ameliorated by William keeping his money in the bank, Fairfax. Especially if he's spending money within the UK at a - presumably?- small business.

Nothing wrong with an independent mobile-hairdresser-to-the-stars being up £180.

LemonBreeland · 19/01/2018 09:51

They might have done a better job tbh. I think it looks terrible. It looks like the part around the top is longer than the rest.

Haffiana · 19/01/2018 09:52

Another thread about celebrity envy....

Make your own donations to charity instead of obsessing about What Other People Should Do.

BarbaraofSevillle · 19/01/2018 09:55

Fairfax There are people on here who would think nothing of spending £180 on a haircut, or £50 on a candle or all manner of other riduculously extravagent things.

Should no-one spend money on anything other than the absolute cheapest option in case it might be considered insensitive?
