pieceofpurplesky · 18/01/2018 20:53

I also once had a few with the wonderful Margie Clarke in a train from London. Wonderful, funny and intriguing lady. Loved her.

Giggorata · 18/01/2018 20:53

Tony Benn was lovely and very interesting to talk to.
Terry Pratchett, witty, caustic, loved a beer or three and good conversation.
Brian Aldiss was a perfect gentleman and appeared genuinely delighted when I told him that the first SF book I read as a teen was one of his.
The cast of Lexx couldn't have been friendlier to us, their fans, during a 3 day SF convention.
The only sleb I had a less than good encounter with was Dave Dee, who clearly wasn't that keen to hear how much I loved DD,D,B,M&T as a youngster... I think he was put off by the red dreadlocks I had at the time.
Oh, and sadly Jimmy White was having an off night at an exhibition match I went to years ago, as a press freebie. He had a face like a fiddle all night, lost to Steve Davis, and wouldn't come to meet all the local bigwigs (and me) at the after party. Very disappointed.

TowerRingInferno · 18/01/2018 20:54

I met lots when I worked in a central London bookshop. I used to organise author events and have to be nice to famous people. Plus several famous people were regular customers.

Far and away the nicest and most down to earth was Paul Merton.

Footballers and football managers and pundits were mostly rude and horrible.
Nigel Slater was lovely. Nigella very up herself. Jilly Cooper very pissed. Jk Rowling very down to earth in the early years.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 18/01/2018 20:55

Lenny Henry - really awful
Tony Wilson (Factory Records) - lovely but left a snot on his plate
John Power (The Las) - teeny tiny and awful
Austin Healy - vile vile arse .
Jake Humphrey - so far up his own arse his feet have disappeared
Clare Balding - terrific , head girl like
Brian O’Driscoll - a dream
Jonny Peacock - fantastic
Daley Thompson - brilliant fun
Davina - tiny and gorgeous , lovely

Worked for a business that broadcasts and sponsors a lot of sport / charity stuff

BattleaxeGalactica · 18/01/2018 20:56

Battleaxe that is the best! So you met Sweep too?

Oh yes. I always preferred Sweep actually. Sooty was a bit of a snitch Grin

KenDoddsDadsDog · 18/01/2018 20:56

I hope no one says Paul O’Grady is awful !

katseyes7 · 18/01/2018 20:56

l met Nick Cave a few years ago. l was ridiculously starstruck and could hardly speak, but he was lovely. lmmaculately smart too.

One of my friends has worked in tv/theatre for 30 years. When he was working on a stage musical of Singing in the Rain, apparently Tommy Steele was so vile to the crew, every night before the performance they'd go up and pee in the water tank that was used in the finale....

OhBigHairyBollocks · 18/01/2018 20:56

Pretty sure I danced next to Olivia Coleman last week. It was brilliant 🤣

Jins · 18/01/2018 20:58

John Lydon. Absolute legend. Had a great chat with him. Not at all rotten

Howdydoodyfolks · 18/01/2018 20:58

DD at work met Olivia Coleman - said she was lovely. Len Goodman - not pleasant at all. Bill Nighy - as perfect as you would expect

Randomlywondering · 18/01/2018 20:58

I didn't meet her per se but I help ch in the same restaurant Alexandra Burke was eating at at the height of her fame. I imagine she ruined the experience for most of the other diners as she was so unpleasant

Abzs · 18/01/2018 20:59

Princess Anne. She stopped her landrover to inquire as to our destination; polite but not necessarily overjoyed to discover that we were heading to the bothy immediately adjacent to the lodge her entire family were heading to (and I do mean entire). 4 year old DS was delighted by shiny black landrovers and special police.

Both families spent the evening studiously ignoring each other. The police officer who came out for a chat was lovely. Even at 22.30 when DS wouldn't sleep and we took him for a walk in the dark to stop him waking the proper hill walkers.

Randomlywondering · 18/01/2018 21:00

Hm help ch should read dined.

PersianCatLady · 18/01/2018 21:00

@persiancatlady - Hollywoods by any chance?
No, The Venue in Poole, Dorset.

Was Hollywoods in Romford in Essex?

Did you meet TT as well??

ChickenVindaloo2 · 18/01/2018 21:01

Verbena - of which celeb meet are you jealous? Britney or Sam?!

MidnightExpress1 · 18/01/2018 21:01

Anthony head lovely man

InvisibleLlama · 18/01/2018 21:01

naichick bizarrely you (and I) are few and far between on here. FRANK TURNER!!

ElphabaTheGreen · 18/01/2018 21:02

Tim Minchin and I were friends in another life when he was chubby and had frizzy hair. I bumped into him last year - fame hasn't changed him in the slightest (apart from his look). Still a pillar of down-to-earth, ridiculously talented, off-the-wall loveliness.

I've also met Brian May. He helped my mum with her wheelchair when I sneaked her slightly illicitly into a sound check he was having, so he gets StarStarStarStarStar from me.

Longdistance · 18/01/2018 21:02

Peter Mendelsohn, what a wanker 🍆💦

Vile, vile, vile!

allibaba · 18/01/2018 21:02

Gwen Taylor - really lovely and very polite
Anne Charlaston (Madge from Neighbours) seemed lovely but I was quite star struck, I was only 12 at the time!
Prince Charles - I love him!!! He was interested and engaged and it was great!
Eric Bristow - nice chap, despite everything that happened later...
Adam Peaty - lovely
Jenny Frost from Atomic Kitten - up her own arse

feral · 18/01/2018 21:02

Teufelsrad I'm desperate for Rammstein to tour soon. Best live band ever.

I've even been to Berlin to see them.

I want those eyes on me Wink

thismumismad · 18/01/2018 21:04

I sold soap to Tim Vine last year, got to see him perform at Big Church Day Out. He was lovely.

DorisDangleberry · 18/01/2018 21:04

Arborea you are so kind.

If you are interested in meeting up I can bring my friend Brian Blessed. I met him in a nail bar, he was having a pedicure sat next to me. Very softly spoken, looks like a strong gust of wind would blow him away. Claims to only drink babycham

GuiltyPleasure · 18/01/2018 21:05

DD was in panto last year with Gareth Gates & Graham Cole (Tony Stamp from the Bill). Gareth was a completely up himself, very superior & the shade of his fake tan was beyond ridiculous, but Graham was absolutely lovely to everyone & was a delight to be around. Unfortunately his attitude did not rub off on Tango boy.
Surrane Jones came to my place of work for research purposes & was lovely.
Eric Cantona despite his bad boy image at the time was the epitome of Gallic charm.

ForalltheSaints · 18/01/2018 21:05

Jimmy Tarbuck- rude.
Bradley Walsh- polite, but the pub came calling.
Paul Heaton- thought I was taking the p**s about his beloved Blades, when not we had a chat about football.
Carole Ann Duffy and Andrew Motion- both pleasant and polite.
John Squire (of the Stone Roses)- very kind and thanked me for coming to his art exhibition.
Billy Bragg- equally polite.
A foreign prime minister whom I shall not name as it was in a spa- spoke briefly, no airs and graces
The joint leader of the Monster Raving Loony Party (at the time)- said nothing, but as Mandu was a cat, forgivable.
