Met Amy Winehouse late in a service station on M1, tiny pretty thing with huge minders. Very friendly to my dcs who pushed up next to her at the counter with their sweets.

PooStick · 24/01/2018 21:37

Elaine C Smith. Rude and not afraid of the phrase "Do you know who I am?"
Not my experience of Elaine, very friendly and down to earth. Would invite the whole cast out for Pizza and pay for it. Came to my house and insisted on walking home herself in an area she didn’t know.

Sue Pollard so so lovely.

YoniHuman · 24/01/2018 22:20

I work in a Library and help out at our local Literary festival so have met quite a few authors. Particularly children's. The positive ones that stick out are:
Cerrie & Alex from CBeebies. Both genuinely lovely people and really amazing with the star-struck children.
Caroline Lawrence is an absolute gem.
Chris Riddell, Really knowledgeable and helpful in his role as Children's Laureate, particularly with regards to advocating libraries.

MichaelBendfaster · 25/01/2018 10:15

Piggy, that's sad. I saw a pic of him dancing when I read about his death and he looked wonderful.

Figgygal · 25/01/2018 11:23

I've met Andy from CBeebies a few times

Longdistance · 25/01/2018 11:36

Gregor Fisher AKA Rab C Nesbitt is a real grumpy fucker. I was disappointed in that, won’t watch him now.

ArcheryAnnie · 25/01/2018 11:40

Yoni I've heard that about Caroline Lawrence, and it's so nice to hear again!

Lordofmyflies · 25/01/2018 11:43

Ive met a few through work,
David Beckham - a real gent. Friendly and unassuming.
George Michael - again, a lovely gentle man. Very quiet and softly spoken.
John Thaw - a gorgeous man. So polite and kind.
Jonathon Ross and Wife - amazing couple, so obviously in to each other.

The spice girls - crazy bunch, manic and full of it.
Geff Banks - rude!
Rolf Harris - ruder!

MissEliza · 25/01/2018 11:44

Not me, but my df has met Rod Stewart quite a few times travelling abroad for Scotland games. He was exactly as you'd imagine, very funny and down to earth. There's quite a few tales about what took place on these trips but I won't go into details!
Quite a few friends and family have bumped into Billy Connolly over the years and he's funny and genuine.

Lordofmyflies · 25/01/2018 11:55

Gavin DeGraw..top bloke, bumped into him and his band looking very out of place a posh hotel lobby. Was with friends on a kid-free weekend and slightly tipsy so went over and bought them a drink. We ended up having a whisky drinking session with them till 4am and then found tickets to their performance that night pushed under outdoor. Went along to gig and ended up travelling to Paris with them on their tour bus for 48hrs!

YoniHuman · 25/01/2018 21:07

Annie She is amazing at what she does too, really engaged the children in her presentations.

DP and I also met William H. Macy in the early 00's after he'd appeared in a matinee at the Donmar Warehouse. I babble when nervous but he was really friendly and took his time chatting to us. He wished us a nice wedding as we had not long got engaged. (Told you I babble Grin).

mummmy2017 · 25/01/2018 21:21

I have met many, and most were ok. Few were too up them self's.

Lesley Joseph ... Doreen, was by far the nicest person I ever met,
My crying child at a panto wanted to go out as didn't like the show, so was in the Bar with a drink, she was having a drink as well, and took us outside to see the sheltlands that were being used for the coach, with Cinderella, said wait till it comes back out, and she had my DD in there ridding round for 5 mins....
Christmas was a let down that year, as santa was not as cool...

ArcheryAnnie · 26/01/2018 13:10

That's brilliant, mummmy2017.

The80sweregreat · 26/01/2018 15:06

So lovely to read about some celebs going the extra mile for their fans, Mummy17. that was so heartwarming.
The Birds of a feather crew always seem really nice when they are being interviewed and quite down to earth.

alibongo5 · 26/01/2018 17:47

Worked on a radio programme many moons ago when the biggest celebs we had on were Margaret Thatcher (who was still PM at the time) and a couple of months later, Paul McCartney. Much as I dislike her and all she stood for, Thatcher stayed and had a drink with the radio crew afterwards and was quite charming in a bossy sort of way, until her pressman (or whoever he was) insisted she had to leave for another appointment. (She had a decent sized glass of whisky).

Whereas Paul McCartney was whisked in and out by his agent without talking to anyone at all. And his agent was a patronising, arrogant arse.

I also used to live round the corner from Roy North (presenter of Basil Brush and a kids' pop programme at the time) who was lovely and he used to come into the newsagents I worked in when I was at school and we regularly used to have chats about football (he supported Hull, me Chelsea, who were struggling in those days). I went to a charity football match and he greeted me by name which made my friends pretty impressed!

SwarmOfCats · 26/01/2018 18:04

I nearly crashed my car into Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen (hair flowing majestically as he drove with the top down) directly outside my house, if that counts?

MadyaunMylford · 26/01/2018 18:56

One of the Thompson Twins when I was at a nZ beach with a mutual friendf...and it was awesome

Gre8scott · 26/01/2018 20:00

I know someone that was cillias dress at panto and she gave him a bottle of aftershave with a cheque for£1500 in it. Also i know someone who was ralf littles waitress and he was super nice to her.

chocolateworshipper · 26/01/2018 22:19

Richard Branson - he was lovely
Simon Le Bon - only realised years later that he must have been a very nice person to put up with love-sick teens knocking on his door!

DH has met Brian May, Sir David Attenborough and Eddie Izzard (before he got into politics) - all very nice

bettytaghetti · 01/02/2018 18:50

@chocolateworshipper, as we were settling into our seats on an overnight flight to Dubai a few years ago I realised that SLB was a few seats across from me. The lucky woman who was in the seat(bed) next to him couldn't quite believe who it was and was looking around for confirmation. I caught her eye and gave her a nod & thumbs up and the grin on her face would have put the Cheshire cat to shame! Gradually every mum in that part of the plane realised he was there & I think you could smell the pheromones we were giving off! The next day we bumped into him in our hotel and I was dying to let him know how many middle aged women he had made very happy last night (!) but chickened out! Regrets, I've had a few...Grin

I used to work overseas as a Holiday Rep and became an overseas manager looking after a large team (this was back in the early 90's).
There was much exitement when it was announced my resort was being featured on Holiday (the BBC programme). Much planning took place (it took weeks) and then the day arrived that the crew flew out and the presenter who just so happened to be Jill Dando.

She was just totally lovely. I was tasked with going with them on their filming (it took 6 days).

We had accommodated the whole crew in a Villa and on their last night they held a BBQ and we had a right ball. She was incredibly funny and had a lovely complexion (odd what you recall).

I still recall exactly where I was about 7 years later and heard she'd be shot dead on her own doorstep.
