And felt so let down by them in real life Blush such as were they a arse?

OP posts:
stevie69 · 18/01/2018 20:42

Bill Bailey.

That's all I think Blush

itshappening · 18/01/2018 20:43

Nope. But I was pleased to hear from a friend that Ian McEwan is just a up himself in real life as he comes across in his books. It would be a bit sad if he was actually a nice person and everyone was thinking that he was a conceited dickhead.

I am not saying your friend is wrong as I only met Ian McEwan briefly once, but I got the opposite impression. He seemed really lovely, kind and attentive and humble.

Michael Portillo - very kind and genuine man.

Will Self, I haven't met him but a friend did at a signing and told him about some troubles I was having, he wrote a really supportive message to me when he signed the book.

Minnie Driver was very nice to me when I met her once.

Verbena37 · 18/01/2018 20:43

Oh blimey chickenvindaloo....faints with jealousy!

nicenewdusters · 18/01/2018 20:43

Another vote for Clare Balding here. Cameras were off but she still came over to where we all were, had a chat with our children, just natural and friendly.

Noel Edmonds. Did a runner at an appearance in the 80s. Ended up behind him on the escalator, horrible cheesy smiles.

Lawrence Llewellyn-Bowen. Really nice to members of my family in a store several years ago. I met his brother socially around the same time - complete w**r.

The shorter one out of Bird and Fortune, the comedians. Lives locally. Utter misery.

QueenNefertitty · 18/01/2018 20:44

Used to work in tv and now in culture sector, so all my working life has been with 'celebrities' or 'famous' people

Off the top of my head....

can't describe how nice Brian May is. He is a diamond - as Anita Dobson. The way they look at each other is glorious to behold.

Matt Baker is very good at noticing show runners etc. and being nice to them.

Alice Cooper also a lovely man.

Michelle from Destiny's Child is batshit.

Holly and Phil are (sadly) not as lovely as you might think.

Eamon Holmes is a surprise treat.

Billy Connolly is very mesmerising and looks RIGHT into your eyes when you're talking.

Hairy Bikers - one is lovely, one is vile. I'll let you guess which.

Rolf Harris was deeply strange (even before all the Stuff came out about him)

I would have highly recommended having a drink with John Hurt before he passed.

Will Self is exactly as you would imagine.

feral · 18/01/2018 20:44

Not famous to most of you but Justin Sullivan, personal hero and lead singer of New Model Army. Lovely bloke.

Also all of the Levellers. Also lovely.

Derren Brown - once I'd stopped worrying he'd make me dance naked down Oxford Street - lovely!

Katyb1310 · 18/01/2018 20:45

I've only met Helen mirren and Ian Rankin. Ian Rankin was quite grumpy!

user1482594726 · 18/01/2018 20:45

Chris Gascoigne in a pub near where I live and all I could do was scrèech bloody he'll you are really short! Unsurprisingly he was not very talkative after that 😕

StealingYourWiFi · 18/01/2018 20:46

Very often in my job in healthcare. Some A list, some not so. They are generally very vulnerable and have all been lovely bar one current TV presenter who I looked after many years back. I didn’t know who they were at the time and they sure did expect the red carpet!

Teufelsrad · 18/01/2018 20:46

Feral Nice to see another Rammstein fan!
I'm still not over it. I love all of them but he's my favourite.

I got to shake his hand, which was absolutely enormous and surprisingly soft. I would have asked for a hug if I hadn't been utterly drenched.(I was at Download, and as is typical, it poured all day) He focuses on you so intensely, like he's taking every word in when you talk to him.

He genuinely has the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen. They were incredibly intense from yards away.

I met the other members but I was on the verge of swooning(he was first in line) and a muttered thank you was all I could manage for them.

Ok, that's far more information than you cared to know, but it's so good to see a Rammstein fan on MN.

papersmile · 18/01/2018 20:47

Whatever happened to Rowland Rivron?

Piggywaspushed · 18/01/2018 20:47

Just read thread and realise we can say nice people too. I have met by accident:

Kylie Minogue (utterly delightful even though I had seen through her heavy disguise)
Ledley King - very nice
Met on purpose:
Dennis Healey - a legend
At parents' evening:
Nadine Dorries - vile vile vile. No surprises there

I was friends with Susan Calman years ago and she was very gregarious and funny.

LostInShoebiz · 18/01/2018 20:47

Rihanna and Victoria Beckham are the nicest two I've met. When I ran into VB at a social occasion and she said hello about a year after meeting her in a professional capacity she actually apologised for bothering me. She has a great sense of humour.

BattleaxeGalactica · 18/01/2018 20:47

Sooty. When DDad made me get up on stage at a Harry Corbett show Hmm

Can't recall a lot about it as I was only about five at the time but I know it was excruciating.

Notthenameiwant · 18/01/2018 20:47

invisible im jealous you met the wonderful Frank Turner. I absolutly love him. Glad he was nice unlike my other "crush " Mark Chadwick from the Levellers who was a twat and ruined my teenage dreams .
The only other famous person I met was Ted Rodgers and Dusty Bin and he was nice ( to a 5 year old me)

frumpety · 18/01/2018 20:48

Stevie69 was he nice ?

Piggywaspushed · 18/01/2018 20:48

Had minor road rage incident with Phil Mitchell once...

LostInShoebiz · 18/01/2018 20:48

Also, not a meeting as such, but I saw Nick Grimshaw ram a giant pram into a woman on crutches who was very slightly in his way. No "excuse me" first or anything, just straight into the ram.

Arborea · 18/01/2018 20:49

That @DorisDangleberry has made me actually lol 4 times this week, and now I want to be her friend irl. In the unlikely event you live in NW England Doris let me know and the babycham's on me Gin

Piggywaspushed · 18/01/2018 20:49

And saw a harassed Samantha Janus in Sports Direct looking bedraggled and pissed off (as you would) but she still had the good grace to say hello.

Teufelsrad · 18/01/2018 20:51

Tim Roth was filming a mere 10 minutes walk from my house, and I didn't go to attempt to see him.(I'm an idiot) He's one of my favourite actors and I'm still kicking myself for that.

itshappening · 18/01/2018 20:51

*Sooty. When DDad made me get up on stage at a Harry Corbett show hmm

Battleaxe that is the best! So you met Sweep too? 😃

pieceofpurplesky · 18/01/2018 20:51

Met a few. Worked in a v posh golf club as a teen.
Jasper Carrot was rude and not funny
Mark Hughes made huge tips (more than our weekly wage)
Roy Keane was sweet, flirty and tipped well too
Have taught a couple of Olympians who love to come back to school to inspire the pupils
A mate tried to fix me up with her new boyfriends mate as kids. Didn't like him or her boyfriend. He was Robbie Williams and mate was Max
Beesley! Now I know.
Gary Barlow is so so dull. Went to school with me ex and met him a few
Times. He's really as dull as you see!

Teufelsrad · 18/01/2018 20:52

Please excuse the garbled English.

MrsHathaway · 18/01/2018 20:52

Apparently Andy Murray waited for ages for Andre Agassi to get his autograph when he was a kid and Andre didn't stop to sign stuff. Andy said he remembers how disappointed he was so he always makes sure that he's signed for everyone.

DC2 went to an England football thing as a competition winner. It was raining so most of the players stomped off for a hot bath as soon as training finished. But Harry Kane stayed out for absolutely ages talking to the young fans and signing whatever they put in front of him. For that he will be my favourite forever.
