My dad used to be John Virgo's milkman. JV was a lovely man who had a bastard of a dog

Gilead · 18/01/2018 20:30

Interesting how different folk find others. My experience of Tony Robinson was awful, he did a 'do you know who I am'.
Penelope Keith was always awfully nice when I met her.
Gordon Brown, lovely.
Yul Brynner, really sweet.
Fred Durst, nice guy!
Brian May agree, lovely as is Roger Taylor.
Frank Bruno, a sweetheart.

@persiancatlady

Hollywoods by any chance?

Bluntness100 · 18/01/2018 20:30

Got in a lift with Paula Abdul about five years ago. Was in a rush to go back to my hotel room, couldn't understand why so many folks in Reception, ran to lift, went to dive in and some large bloke in a suit went to stop me.

I gave him a filthy look and saw a little arm pop out and pull him back. He stepped back and I got in, I looked down and it was Paula Abdul. She's tiny, she smiled and said hi. I said hi back and then just turned to face the door, as you do in lifts, with mad body guard glaring at me in the mirror like I might be a threat, cos yes, women in business suits and carrying a laptop always are. Idiot.

maggiecate · 18/01/2018 20:30

Russ Abbott! He was lovely. Early 90s, I was waitressing in a naice hotel, he and his wife came for dinner. He didn't tell us, but we'd seen in the paper that day that it was his birthday, and we always gave guests celebrating a special occasion a little present - I think it was a whiskey minature. He couldn't work out how we knew! There were some Americans staying and the all got chatting, and afterwards they were all 'OMG IS HE FAMOUS!?! HES SO NICE!!!' Trying to explain CU Jimmy and Basildon Bond to them was interesting...

Apparently Andy Murray waited for ages for Andre Agassi to get his autograph when he was a kid and Andre didn't stop to sign stuff. Andy said he remembers how disappointed he was so he always makes sure that he's signed for everyone.

My mum met a lot of famous people when she worked in a restaurant. She says the nicest was Robbie Williams (years ago at the very height of his fame). She asked him "are you Robbie Williams?" (mum's not the sharpest tool in the box bless her) to which Robbie gave her a comedy wink and said "shhhhhhh" with a big grin. He left her a £30 tip Grin

RiojaHaze · 18/01/2018 20:32

Claire Balding was really lovely when I ran shouting after her at Crufts like a right weirdo a couple of years ago, and waited patiently while I grabbed DD so that we could have a photo!

Zioanna · 18/01/2018 20:32

Jimmy Saville was as you might expect, friendly but creepy.
Frank Bruno, delightful.
Alex Gerrard, just awful.
Gary Speed, such a lovely man.
Ken Livingston, a bit embarrassing. Liked to talk about himself, but wasn’t that interesting.
David Miliband, shy and serious, but pleasant.
Alan Shearer, unbelievably rude.
Roland Rivron, really funny. Spent a lot of time complaining about how Jonathan Ross got the best jobs.

feral · 18/01/2018 20:34

Teufelsrad I'm green with envy! Till Lindemann SmileSmile

rabbit12345 · 18/01/2018 20:35

David Walliams creeps me out on tv but he was one of the loveliest people to meet in person.

naichick · 18/01/2018 20:35

LLama I was just listening to Frank Turmer yesterday, love his music!

ChickenVindaloo2 · 18/01/2018 20:37

I met Britney Spears at a meet and greet in Vegas a few months ago!
She did an impression of my (Scottish) accent and told me to "keep talking".

Sam Heughan from Outlander is lovely in real life.

Piffpaffpoff · 18/01/2018 20:37

Judy Murray. She was LOVELY!

Rudgie47 · 18/01/2018 20:38

Guy Chambers-songwriter I've met a few times and he was really nice.
My friend has worked a lot with Peter Kaye and said hes so nasty its unbelievable.

Humptyfelldown · 18/01/2018 20:38

I'm surprised about the negativity about David Jason, my Dsis knew him quite well, and used to take her DC round to his house for playdates, and she (and my dad), both thought he was really nice and down to earth. I never met him, but did meet his wife, who is lovely, and I went on holiday with his dog.

Besides that I've met Patrick Moore (again different to PP, he was charming), Charles Dance (a sweetheart), David Warner (a real laugh), Toby Jones (really nice), Keanu Reeves (very shy), danced with Jimmy Yuill (didn't realise who he was, thought I knew him from a shop), Finty Williams (judi Dench's daughter) - normal but distracted. Nick Heyward - err, slightly off the wall, but nice.

ohtheholidays · 18/01/2018 20:39

I've met several, the only one I didn't like was the one who kept trying to hit on me even though I had my baby son with me and had told him repeatedly that I was not interested and I was married,in the end my Mum had a go at him and his management team spoke to him and took him away.

Frank Bruno and Sir Patrick Moore were as lovely in real life as I thought they would be.

Namechanger41 · 18/01/2018 20:39

Mat Horne from Gavin and Stacey. Sure he's not as famous as Corden because he is nicer. Just lovely and so funny. A little bit in ❤

QuizteamBleakley · 18/01/2018 20:40

Prince William - met him in a pub in Minehead. Speaks in a broad West Country accent, only about 5'3'' with a thick thatch of jet black hair and gets quite punchy after a few pints of cider. Also admitted he can't really fly a helicopter.

@DorisDangleberry - I'm howling! Please reveal some more of your celeb spotting.

HonkyWonkWoman · 18/01/2018 20:41

Tom Jones, his wife Linda and his son at the next table to us in Barbados. Recognised British accents and chatted to us , then asked us to join him. Drinking Dom Perignon Champagne, bought quite a few bottles between us and got steaming. Don't know how it happened but think it was a bit of a dare and Dh ended up singing Delilah to him, really badly, with actions, while we all pissed ourselves. Great night, brilliant, down to earth guy.

rabbit12345 · 18/01/2018 20:41

@chickenvindaloo2

I fear I would be completely star struck and dragged away if I were to meet him 😍

Verbena37 · 18/01/2018 20:41

Andrew Lloyd Webber (not an arse)
Robbie Williams (not an arse)
Gary Barlow (thought initially bit arsey but think he was perhaps tired)
Gareth Malone (defo not an arse)

BruceFoxton · 18/01/2018 20:41

Spoke to Paul Weller at school sports day (I'm a teacher) ; he was asking me whether he could take his kid home early. I found myself asking "Are you sure you don't want to stay for the egg and spoon race?".
To Paul Weller.
Out of The Jam.
He was very polite and said that, ordinarily, he'd love to but they really needed to go. Next day, as I was walking to work, his car passed me and he leaned out and waved.
Made. My. Entire. Life.
He was my whole world when I was 14.

Crumbs1 · 18/01/2018 20:42

Lots. Most are just people doing a job that puts them in the public eye. Been to a few well known peoples houses too. Beaten Tony Blair at scrabble. Elton John has roses in his lavatory and the two biggest television screens I have ever seen - one at each end of the room his discs are hung in. Yehudi Menuhin was both very shy and very charming. Adam Ant was nice.
I did meet a chap when I was walking back to our flat in Birmingham who asked me if I wanted his autograph. He was nice looking and was being filmed so I guessed he might be ‘famous’. I said I had no need of his signature and he said “Are you for real?” I said most certainly I was but who was he? His name was Arg, he told me. Cue blank look. “you really don’t recognise me do you?” “No, sorry should I”. He suggested I ring my kids and ask them so I did. They said he was from a programme about Essex but wasn’t really famous so they weren’t impressed. I told him this and once he managed to rearrange his face he actually became more pleasant and offered me tickets to his show.

Piggywaspushed · 18/01/2018 20:42

I met Sarah Ferguson. A cow.
