I met Michael Eavis who is every bit as lovely and charming as he comes across on tv and in the news. He told my then dp that after nearly 6 years together it was time he proposed to me. He did, that summer, and we married the following year - in Glastonbury. We honeymooned at the festival and Michael Eavis drove past us in his Landrover and congratulated us. We've been married now for 9 years. Haven't been back to the festival since 7yo ds was born (not for want of trying for tickets!) And we now also have a 14mo dd!

Met Johnny Depp a few times and he’s always been lovely, really polite and kind.

I didn’t meet him but Roger Daltrey knew my Dad back in the day and sent me a lovely letter and the most beautiful flowers when he died.

peachgreen · 19/01/2018 08:28

@InvisibleLlama To be fair he was much younger when I met him and we're all a bit of an arse at that stage! He was just beginning to get famous in my area and I think it had gone to his head a bit. I've no doubt he's nicer now. Also I think he's shifted from anarchic libertarianism to being more of a centrist which is probably more bearable!

LadyBunnysWig · 19/01/2018 08:39

Ant and Dec on a fair few occasions. Dec's brother was my priest at school and one of Dec's nieces went to my school so he came to pick her up a fair few times. The school went nuts.
I also live near some of his family so I see him every now and then.

I do absolutely adore Ant & Dec so I do turn into a proper fan girl Blush

sashh · 19/01/2018 08:52

As a rule, the properly famous were fine, the z list were a fucking nightmare.

^^ this

I worked in a private hospital and it was true then. Although I think if you are in hospital you are entitled to be a Knob.

I taught a few famous(ish) people when they were younger. One is now in TV presenting, one is in music industry and one is in game of thrones.
Two of them were bloody hard work in the classroom and could be pretty obnoxious at times. I guess that they have grown up and got less confrontational as they've got older as they come across as nice people now when I see interviews etc.

SparklySeaShell · 19/01/2018 10:01

I was in a lift with Jay-Z, I would imagine he is what heaven smells like! I had to hold on to the side of the lift, he was incredible! Grin

uglyflowers · 19/01/2018 10:06

I've met:
Lennie Henry - cooler and more 'street' than on TV but a nice man
Paul Young - v down to earth and polite
The Wonder Stuff - pleasant
Rutger Hauer - lovely
Rammstein - polite and friendly
Bet Lynch - didn't talk to her but nearly stood on her toe in a Chinese restaurant and she (understandably) looked pissed off
Lias from Fat White Family - nice, intense and smelly

Oooh. Just remembered I met Captain Sensible of The Damned back in the day. Such a lovely, lovely guy. I still have the chequebook he autographed for me asking to borrow a fiver Grin

whycantiloginonmyotheraccount · 19/01/2018 10:29

Not me but DH has.

He lived 2 doors away from Barbara Windsor in a Buckinghamshire village in the early 80's, where she ran a pub with her then husband.
He said she was nice enough but would draw a lot of attention to herself by doing the whole headscarf and dark glasses thing to go across the road to the butchers.

newmumwithquestions · 19/01/2018 10:30

Griff rys jones - lovely.

Prince Harry - didn’t really talk to him but bumped into him (literally) coming out a pub toilet. I didn’t register at first, apologised and offered that he go first. He was very polite and we had a chuckle. Then I realised that his minders were all around and I’d just sort of ploughed through them. I wasn’t drunk, I’m just clumsy!

newmumwithquestions · 19/01/2018 10:31

Oh and others - Ruby Wax a few times. Some hollyoakes actors

GinisLife · 19/01/2018 10:49

Rosemary Conley. Tiny, very nice. Is actually not great at exercise and has to be taught everything in her videos and corrected on her technique. Does a huge amount for charity.

thegreylady · 19/01/2018 10:51

Only Simon Armitage the poet. I sat opposite him on a train journey, we chatted and he was absolutely lovely.

wonkylegs · 19/01/2018 11:03

Yes quite a few just by accident/ luck of situation -
I spent a summer working for a location company in Hollywood, supervising shoots etc so got to meet quite a few stars, directors and famous photographers. Most were quite different than I expected.
Whilst I was there I also hung out with my cousins godfather who is a very famous singer and quite cool.

Years ago I went on a date with the lead singer of a band who were famous at the time (it was arranged by our parents 😳) we got on but no sparks!

My first love from when we were teenagers is now an actor / director and we are still friends

I have also puked on a prime minister (as a baby) and a famous fashion designer (as an adult - food poisoning, he was stood in the path to the loo)

More recently I've met a few famous rugby & football players, they seem to like the same pubs & restaurants as us

thegreylady · 19/01/2018 11:04

Oh! I sat behind most of the cast of Coronation Street at a performance of ‘That Day we Sang’ in Manchester. The lady who plays Audrey Roberts turned round and was chatting with me in the interval. I didn’t realise who they were until they all stood up to applaud at the end. ‘Audrey’ was absolutely lovely.

Shen0102 · 19/01/2018 11:08

Met her Majesty the Queen

.
.
Also a few other people who must not be that exciting if my brain cant recall them already. Does those met Madame tussauds count ?? Lol

Shen0102 · 19/01/2018 11:11

Met at **

Spadequeen · 19/01/2018 11:14

Austin healey was great when I met him at a mn event a few years ago. I can understand why some might think him arrogant but I think it’s more to do with a personality clash rather than him being an utter arse.

Emma forbes was also at the event and was just so lovely and funny. Whatever happened to her?

Mark Owen, gorgeous and so lovely in rl

The whole of boyzone, so far up their own arses and couldn’t sing for toffee.

Martine McCutcheon (?) same as above, though don’t know about the singing just very fake.

Jo Brand, genuinely funny and very down to earth

Pagwatch · 19/01/2018 11:16

we were on holiday in St Lucia when Amy Winehouse was out there and trying to detox but drinking too much and trying to get away from the press
DH took DD out and she met her. DD was just little and joined some children who were playing with a puppy. Amy Winehouse was in the middle of them and just loving it. DH said it was lovely and she seemed relaxed and happy - like one of the children. Some of the other holidaymakers were protective of her and DH had to indicate that he was watching DD as they were sort of on alert. I always thought she must have seemed vulnerable for strangers to feel protective of her
It's so sad that she died

TopBitchoftheWitches · 19/01/2018 11:50

@KingPrawnOkay

You have met the Hoff as well Smile
He is nice isn't he.

Lenska999 · 19/01/2018 12:06

I met The Queen a couple of years ago, had a chat for about a minute. She was lovely, I was a babbling nervous wreck 🙈

MidnightAura · 19/01/2018 12:53

I've met a few, some through work and some not,

The nice ones :
Peter Capaldi - lovely, lovely guy who took a genuine interest in a very star struck DH. Says he has family near by to where we stay and was happy to chat for ages. Gave me a big hug and DH was very jealous Grin

Jimmy Carr- met him through work on a number of occasions and was pleasantly surprised by him. Even more surprised when he remembered me. Very polite.

Simon Cowell- Nice guy.

Paul O' Grady. He was pleasant enough. Smoked a lot! But heard different things about him.

The not so nice :

Shane Filan from Westlife. My teenage crush, met him twice once with Westlife and found him very disappointing.

Mark Owen, this was through work and was at the time he had got caught having affairs so maybe it was to do with that?

The actor that plays Dev in Corrie. He was very drunk and quite aggressive at 5:30 in the morning. I didn't know who he was, a colleague pointed him out.

My ex worked with Prince William and says he was extremely arrogant and up himself but Harry on the other hand was just one of the guys.

Elaine C Smith. Rude and not afraid of the phrase "Do you know who I am?"

Frolie · 19/01/2018 12:56

Jeremy Paxman held a door open for me - very nice.
Christine Hamilton - also held a door open for me and very nice.
Andrew Motion - lovely, softly spoken and kind
Kylie Minogue - I sat next to her at an awards ceremony. She let me hold her award. She was lovely and so tiny!
Edwina Currie - Absolutely awful and extremely arrogant
'Audrey' from Corrie - Lovely
Dr John Cooper Clarke - A gentleman and very friendly
Donna Tartt - Sharp, clever and tiny
Richard Whiteley - Sadly, not very nice
'Ken Barlow' - Friendly, kind and earnest
Brian May - My husband met him and said he was wonderful
Prince Charles - My mum met him and he was lovely. He gave her a tour of his garden at Highgrove.
Sir Ian McKellan - My sister met him; he was totally amazing and very generous with his time. Truly inspirational man.
