MycatsaPirate · 18/01/2018 22:35

One person I didn't like was Claire King (Emmerdale)

I was working in a service station at the time (12 hour shifts) and she came in, snapped out the pump number for the fuel and then said we would need to wait (with a queue behind her) while she got something to eat and drink. She came back and dumped her stuff on the counter but dropped the can of coke and it hit the shelf, split open and sprayed coke all over her. She went absolutely nuts and I was bloody glad when she left. Not one please or thank you, just snapping orders like we were her bloody personal servants.

I had Bobby Ball (from Cannon and Ball) come in one day with his wife and he was so, so lovely. Really sweet and funny and stood chatting for ages until his wife dragged him out rolling her eyes (in good humour).

Saw Kris Marshall at a train station once, he was so not wanting to be approached he hid behind his newspaper once he realised he'd been clocked, he got on the same train as me & when we got off I was behind him, he looked so awkward & practically ran off the train. No one had even said anything to him...anti social muchly

Andromeida29 · 18/01/2018 22:38

Ed Miliband - lovely, charming and down to earth
John Prescott
Neil Kinnock
David Blunkett all were lovely
Jess Phillips - she cheered me up after I'd had a really awful time.
Hung up the phone on Alistair Campbell
Saw Lee from Blue in a 2-for-1 restaurant having a go at his girlfriend for not paying the bill so he's the biggest arse I've seen.

Welldoneme · 18/01/2018 22:39

Mark Williams (snooker) absolute arse and bellend, most arrogant person I have ever met.

tiptopteepe · 18/01/2018 22:40

I met Johnny Vegas in a coffee shop in Falmouth.. so random! He was lovely. He started speaking to me coz it was really crowded and he ended up having to share my table. He was really polite and apologetic about it. He was with a woman who appeared to be a manager or agent or assistant or something (they had a laptop out and appeared to be discussing some sort of work related thing, i tried not to listen and read my book)

DIngdongmerryilyonhigh · 18/01/2018 22:43

Chris Tarrant - Cold, distant, dismissive (at a charity event!)
Paul Whitehouse - Very down to earth
Louise Minchin - Lovely
Jeffrey Archer - Total knob! Arrogant and horrible

Steaksauce · 18/01/2018 22:44

Jim Bowen (Yes him from Bullseye) was lovely

Vicky McClure is lovely

Chris Tarrant - total dick

Differentcorner · 18/01/2018 22:45

I have met quite a few over the years...and have some very interesting tales that I am sure the Daily Mail would love to hear! Alas I am sworn to secrecy... as a rule most were lovely just like everyone else and seem to be afflicted by the same anxieties as you and me. Many actually seemed quite lonely...

Orangesaretheonly · 18/01/2018 22:47

I saw Paloma Faith at Clapham Calling a few years ago. Lady next to us asked her very nicely for a photo and she was so rude to her.
She told me how lovely my hair colour was (ginger) and I just said thanks and smiled and she scowled at me back like I should have gone oh my god it's you! Did not like the fact I didn't acknowledge who she was!!

Met Len Goodman at an airport once, he picked up my dads suitcase by accident! He was so nice and funny! Genuinely nice man.

DIngdongmerryilyonhigh · 18/01/2018 22:47

and Peter Andre at a Costa machine in a garage :) he was very friendly.

Bouledeneige · 18/01/2018 22:56

The queen
Prince Charles
David Cameron
Gordon Brown
The Irish president
The queen of the Netherlands
Princess Alexandra
Eddie izzard
Esther rantzen - it's alll about Esther
Angela Rippon - it's all about Angela
Carol Vorderman - vain and thick
Piers Morgan - smug - but you knew that!
Andy burnham - Earnest and nice eyes
Larry Lamb
Alison steadman - lovely
Janet street porter - a laugh
Anne widdecombe - friendly
Terry jones - lovely

Not exactly glam!

Ooh I do like a sleb twaddle thread.
I was ordered not to let on to Audrey from Coro that I recognized her but that might have been my boss being a twunt she came into Richards clothes shop a few times in the 90s.
David Baddiel sat next to me in a play - he came in late and had no choice! - at the end of the play, a teenager on the other side asked him for an autograph which he agreed to. I thought that was nice as he seemed really uncomfortable.

LittleLionMansMummy · 18/01/2018 22:59

Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock. Absolutely lovely, as well as truly inspiring.

Honeycombcrunch · 18/01/2018 23:00

Ulrika Johnson - very nice and down to earth

Michael Portillo - genuinely nice

Gary Numan - eccentric but seemed pleasant

Allan Davies - grumpy and bad tempered

Wow Peachgreen!! (Re:FT) He is the most sensible person ever. Also met Eddie Izzard who has wonderful presence and high heels. Met lots at Hay Festival, but some just stay with you, like Frank.

paranoidpammywhammy2 · 18/01/2018 23:20

I've met quite a few famous people. Most of been OK but meeting them hasn't really been that memorable.

You might be their biggest fan and know everything about them but they don't actually know you and don't owe you anything - besides your support as a fan. They just want to get on with doing normal things and left alone to do them. I've felt a lot of sympathy with how fame can distort normal life for them.

Peter Andre was a sweetie. PD and DM (famous magician couple) - didn't have as much interaction with PD but they seemed a lovely couple. I think they were the nicest, friendliest and most down to earth.

A few definitely crave all the attention and get upset if they are not getting it or someone else is. Craig Charles was a total arse. Does he have tantrums a lot?

When I was much younger I was a huge fan of someone. I was devastated to meet him and find out what a nasty, racist piece of shit he was. His public life is very different from his private life. It soured me to think I could admire someone so much and then have no idea of what he was really like.

Not longer after that I unfortunately discovered two other famous men (that I wasn't huge fans of) were also of a similar ilk. For me - they are HW equivalents and it must be well known what absolute shits they are. Yet they continue to this day. I can't believe they've changed yet there is no scandal attached to them.

JAMMFYesPlease · 18/01/2018 23:32

I am happy to say that David Tennant is lovely, especially to a 4yo on her birthday who is just in awe at meeting The Doctor. She got a big cuddle from him and couldn't stop talking about it for the rest of the day.

BillyJoel · 18/01/2018 23:37

Spent 15 minutes in conversation with Prince Edward as part of my job. He was easy to talk to, quite interesting and knowledgeable.

carringtonm · 18/01/2018 23:43

Pierce Brosnan on a random street in Italy but I was too shocked to actually speak to him. We walked next to each other until he got to his hotel and said "have a good day" to me and went inside. I wish I'd gotten a photo! No one believes me!

My FIL bumped into David Cameron on a beach in Suffolk and said "I know your face." To which Cameron replied "Well I don't know yours!" and they laughed and went their separate ways.

LurpakIsTheOnlyButter · 18/01/2018 23:45

Johnny Vegas is lovely. I spent hours talking to him in a lap dancing club. He didn't want a lapdance.

Geri Halliwell is rude and arrogant.

I own a pair of Cilla Blacks shoes but never met her. The shoes fit me perfectly.

m0therofdragons · 18/01/2018 23:45

@pigsknickers am I your friend? Alan Bennett was absolutely lovely but I was so disappointed by Vic Reeves - him and his posse were such a bubble of arrogance and twatishness. Total knob. He lives near where I grew up so i saw him a few times and each time he was the same.

HildaZelda · 18/01/2018 23:46

Oh I forgot about Martin Kemp. So so SO nice! An absolute gentleman.

SellMySoulForSomeSleep · 19/01/2018 00:08

I've met quite a few man Utd players and coronation st cast circa 1999.

Most have faded from memory but David Beckham, Peter Schmichael and "Ken Barlow" where all very friendly and a pleasure to talk too.

meeting Schmichael was one of the highlights of my life
