When was the last time you were genuinely excited?

I was watching the recent Big Bang Theory episode where Sheldon surprises Amy on her birthday and she is so delighted and excited.

I think the last time I felt that level of excitement was as a student, late last century, about to go on a trip to Dublin. I was jumping up and down with glee. Maybe it was just youthful exuberance but I would love to feel that way again.

When was the last time you felt like that? And how can I rekindle that?

The most excited I have ever been was 7 months ago, the week before going down to meet our potential new addition to the family - a rescue greyhound.

I couldn't tell the kids about it because I didn't want to get their hopes up and us not have a match with one but I could not sit still for about a week. I've never been that excited about anything before - wedding, children etc - because whilst this was a sense of responsibility it also seemed very simple.

We came home with one - she's adorable, we love her :)

So, that's my advice - get a greyhound!

I got concert tickets last year - didn’t think I’d be able to get them but was able to - I jumped up and down like an eejit and almost imploded with excitement at the actual concert.

Oblomov18 · 15/01/2018 15:04

No. Years ago. Going to Barcelona. I'd wanted to go for years.
Why do I not feel excited very often. That's a bit worrying, isn't it. Hmm

AnnaMagdalenaGluck · 15/01/2018 15:12

16th December 2006 when we went to pick up our new puppy. She's lying next to me now, snoring away. Grin

bfgdreamtree · 15/01/2018 15:13

I think its really sad that so many people haven't been excited for years or decades. Do you not look forward to things? Do you not ever have any fun?

confusedandemployed · 15/01/2018 15:16

I get excited about quite a lot of things: booking holidays, nights out, days off, weekends away. A life without excitement is a pale imitation of the real thing.

I got quite excited last night when my lovely FWB (perhaps more, we're neither of us quite sure yet) said he was on his way over to see me Grin

whiskyowl · 15/01/2018 15:18

I don't think you have to be excited in anticipation of something to have fun in the present moment. For excitemnet, you need to have a sense of entitlement that things will work out more or less as planned. If you come from the kind of background where the future has tended to be taken away from you, or you've had a rough ride so that you no longer feel certain about things happening beyond the present moment, excitement can easily feel like something painfully risky that you cannot afford emotionally. That doesn't mean you can't have fun in the present moment, spontaneously, however.

ShatnersWig · 15/01/2018 15:20

bfg We didn't say we didn't have fun. We said things like this:

I look forward to things and I'm happy but I just don't get excited.

heron98 · 15/01/2018 15:21

I entered a cycle race that I thought I could win (I did!) so I was really nervous and excited during the week leading up to it and couldn't sleep. That was about 2 years ago.

bfgdreamtree · 15/01/2018 15:24

What do you think excited means?
