When was the last time you were genuinely excited?

I was watching the recent Big Bang Theory episode where Sheldon surprises Amy on her birthday and she is so delighted and excited.

I think the last time I felt that level of excitement was as a student, late last century, about to go on a trip to Dublin. I was jumping up and down with glee. Maybe it was just youthful exuberance but I would love to feel that way again.

When was the last time you felt like that? And how can I rekindle that?

I honestly can’t remember - quite a few years ago. Although I do have reduced affect display due to depression and PTSD.

AllButterShortbread · 15/01/2018 13:08

I have no idea. Years ago. We have holidays/days out/parties etc but there’s always something to worry about and that takes away any excitement completely. Mainly due to financial reasons I think. How depressing Sad

This weekend when I arranged a surprise for DD. I am ridiculously easy to please though I get excited about everything.

Sn0tnose · 15/01/2018 13:28

Yesterday. We've got a weekend away in February in one of my most favourite places in the world and we were planning what we were going to do on each of the three days.

Before that, it was Christmas.

TeenTimesTwo · 15/01/2018 13:37

Olympics and Safari in 2012
HP Studios in 2015
Getting tickets for the Cursed Child 2017 (don't see it until later this year)

God, I feel like it's been a long time.

I've been through a period in my life of a lot of change recently, including major building work, which has been tough. I've been less excited and more anxious about a lot of it. Right now, I guess I am excited to have my house and my life back from the builders in the next month or so, but I'm so tired that I can't really that jumping-up-and-down-with-butterflies feeling. I just want to sleep and to have a home environment that isn't full of dust, mess, and builders!

ShatnersBassoon · 15/01/2018 13:42

I don't think I ever have been. I'd like to feel extremely happy, but it just doesn't happen (or any extreme of emotion). I don't think there's any reason for me being this way, it's just my lid doesn't pop off with joy, anger, sadness...

mailTo · 15/01/2018 13:52

Yesterday.

A life without excitement sounds so pointless.

AgentProvocateur · 15/01/2018 13:53

Every time I book a holiday. And getting Hamilton tickets.

SadnessReigns · 15/01/2018 13:57

The other day when DP told me to go up and have a nap as our toddler had had me up a lot in the night to breastfeed.
The excitement I felt at the prospect of a few hours uninterrupted sleep in the middle of the day was enormous Grin

TheSconeOfStone · 15/01/2018 13:58

Every holiday, even a couple of nights camping.

Theme parks which are a once a year treat.

When DH booked a night in London for our anniversary to see a new band I like. We got drunk! In London! And saw a cool young band!!

The once or twice a year I go to a cheesy night club and dance like Beyonce with my friends.

So mainly when I get to forget I am a boring 40 something mum of two.

MotherOfDragons22 · 15/01/2018 14:01

Right now! I'm due a baby in 3 weeks! It is my third baby but my first with new dp and we are both so excited!

LightDrizzle · 15/01/2018 14:04

I was really quite excited with my new Denby coffee mugs last week. They are perfect.
I got very excited about Mystical Landscapes Exhibition at the Musee d’Orsay in May. I bought the massive hardback book of it for eleventy-billion euros and carted it back to our hotel and thence home.

When was the last time you were genuinely excited?
PrivateParkin · 15/01/2018 14:05

Midnight last night. Start of the Australian Open tennis Smile

teaonadrip · 15/01/2018 14:05

Flying to Lapland in December! We hadn't told our children we were going until the morning and they had never flown before. I was genuinely like a child!

NurseButtercup · 15/01/2018 14:07

25th January I'm going to see the stand up comedian Chris Rock! It's the day after my exam so it will be the tonic that I need.

stevie69 · 15/01/2018 14:08

Saturday, when my footie team (almost bottom of League 2) beat top of the table Luton Town. I'm still pretty excited about it today Smile

NurseButtercup · 15/01/2018 14:09

dance like Beyonce with my friends

Oh I haven't done this for years and need to - but I actually think I'll hurt my back Grin

I think I'm going to book a holiday

ShatnersWig · 15/01/2018 14:10

When I was about 12 I think. I just don't get that 'fizz' anymore. I look forward to things and I'm happy but I just don't get excited.
It saddens me.

This. 100%

TrinitySquirrel · 15/01/2018 14:13

Christmas eve and also the night before my Birthday.

I think I'm in temporary denial and that someone will suddenly appear with a puppy or something special and thoughtful. Or my letter from Hogwarts.

AEJS · 15/01/2018 14:19

This Thursday I'm having a weekend away from DH and the DCs. I'm staying with my best friend in the whole world! It's a flight away so it feels like a real holiday. Bit nervous about navigating the airport without DH but mostly very very excited!

I'm a SAHM and don't get out much so a weekend just us girls will be really special. Eek!

RocketPockets · 15/01/2018 14:22

Last week starting a new job role at work! I was and still am so so excited about it I just grin like an idiot and go all fuzzy, cannot wait to really get my teeth into it!

joystir59 · 15/01/2018 14:23

Most days. This morning playing with the dog in the pouring rain watching him get all muddy and soooo happy!

DustyMaiden · 15/01/2018 14:26

Don’t remember ever feeling it, nor anger.

LilCamper · 15/01/2018 14:28

When I took 10 yo dd to a gig to see a band she has liked for 5 years. The look on her face when they came on stage was priceless, so much so we saw them again last Thurs!
