www.usatoday.com/story/sports/olympics/2018/01/11/these-transgender-cyclists-have-olympian-disagreement-how-define-fairness/995434001/

As a women who has always played competitive sports, I’ve been following the progress of Transwomen and transgirls in sport. Seems this article shows that some transwomen are now pushing for no limits placed on TW at all. The article shows the disagreement between TW cyclists on the issue.

I guess if we really are to accept that TW are women then this is actually the logical outcome. If TW are women then to put special measures and judgements in place for TW would indeed be prejudiced and discriminatory.

This is well worth the watch.

Interesting bit near the end regarding bone density etc

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 16/01/2018 15:59

Grin that would save so many arguments!

Rebeccaslicker · 16/01/2018 15:59

Kinddogtails - if you look at the link i posted upthread, that's exactly what the American golf association had.

Until a FTM golfer sued them and they backed down on it....!

ohfortuna · 16/01/2018 16:11

@TinyRick, thanks for the Joe Rogan clip, not watched it all yet but I shall in a minute.
I think if just one or 2 people can speak up on this and not get shot down then maybe others will come forward.
Maybe Joe R can help to turn the tide?

KindDogsTail · 16/01/2018 16:12

Thanks Rebecca, that is interesting, and awful. I had not rtft.

TinyRick · 16/01/2018 16:15

ohfortuna No worries. What stood out for me is when he said the words 'cult-like' and 'ideology'.

ohfortuna · 16/01/2018 17:34

I watched it, he made some good points...'people just want to win and the way that they do that is by competing against people that are not on the same level'
at 5:35 he compares it to 'sandbagging' (not a term I've ever heard used in this way) which happens for example in martial arts where higher belts enter competitions meant for lower belts in order to 'stomp everybody'

ohfortuna · 16/01/2018 17:41

also mentions that this is about attention seeking, wanting to be noticed ..in order to be seen as super progressive people look to defend the most marginalised groups, ie the transgendered and they have now come to be seen as a class of women who are more protected than actual women

ChelleDawg2020 · 16/01/2018 17:45

Scrap the gender divisions altogether. Men, women, trans-men, trans-women should compete against one another.

The "it's not fair!" argument really doesn't wash. Elite sportspeople have natural advantages. The average person could not compete with the elite, no matter how dedicated they were. Claiming that women should be segregated just perpetuates the argument that women are somehow inferior to men.

Take Nicola Adams and put her in the boxing ring with an average man off the street, and I'm pretty sure it would be a one-sided fight. Gender is irrelevant.

ohfortuna · 16/01/2018 17:55

What stood out for me is when he said the words 'cult-like'
indeed!

pisacake · 16/01/2018 17:55

don't be so bloody stupid.

Nicola Adams would get literally killed by a professional male boxer.

Nobody wants to see her fighting some random bloke who doesn't even know how to box.

you really are incredibly thick.

Rebeccaslicker · 16/01/2018 17:57

Gender may well be irrelevant to sport.

Sex is most definitely not.

PricklyBall · 16/01/2018 18:06

Pisa, succinct and to the point. (The stupid is strong in that one... I think I've seen that poster on other threads).

ohfortuna · 16/01/2018 18:11

The average person could not compete with the elite, no matter how dedicated they were

indeed, thats why elites compete against elites...durr
your post is obviously deliberately inflammatory not to mention nonsensical Chelle

Helmetbymidnight · 16/01/2018 18:15

Chelledawg just doesn't want any women's sports, right chelle?

pisacake · 16/01/2018 18:18

just ignore it. It just drops a turd and fucks off.

AndhowcouldIeverrefuse · 16/01/2018 18:24

How about a female only event, and an all-comers event? That would solve a lot.

This has been suggested before on MN. There should be an open category, and then the women's category. I guess for some people this means kissing those easy medals goodbye!

With the way things are now we will end up with 2 different categories: men and "other" or "non-men". Women will be of course the ones losing out.

Ofalltheginjoints · 16/01/2018 18:25

I’ve competed in international competitions and at a European Championship there was a transwomen who raced against women in their category (category’s are usually decided upon by weight) these women were at the top of their physical fitness and were about 20 years younger however the transwomen won, they had initially started the sport as a man but when they transitioned kept racing within women’s category’s, this person never lost, they had height, strength and lung capacity advantages and could not be beat.

The women were deeply unhappy about having to complete the race but they did, and a lot of the men who were competing commented on the unfairness of it, this was back in 2014 before the trans situation became so widely discussed (or at least on my radar anyway please correct me if I’m wrong) its difficult in regards to sport as biological differences make a huge difference, maybe trans events would be a good way to go? In that sport I could do a mixed event with a Male partner in my category and it led to exciting races if the opposition were Male and transwomen my partner and I wouldn’t have had a chance and whilst I don’t want to discrimate against anyone I don’t want my rights taken away either (no doubt that makes me a terf in some peoples opinion)

QueenArseClangers · 16/01/2018 18:26

I’ve got a plan to bring me glory this 2018.
I’m going to start dressing in children’s clothes (or an appropriation of) then come summer time I’m going to argue my way into my children’s primary school sports day by stating that I am an eight year old.
I’ll twat those little buggers at the hoola hoop obstacle race.
Glory shall be mine!

Actually, there seems to be a crossover with trans/‘sissy’ identification. Perhaps Stefoknee can lend me a frock?

pisacake · 16/01/2018 18:30

break their legs, it's only fair, some 8 year olds are as big as 11 year olds, and some adults are the size of 11 year olds, so it's all perfectly fair.

PricklyBall · 16/01/2018 18:34

Ofall Sad and Angry on your behalf (and all the other women competitors). It stinks, it really, really stinks.

QueenArseClangers · 16/01/2018 18:46

Good idea pisa! After all, us kids are always getting into scrapes and getting scabby knees. What does it matter that I’m a 5ft10 14 stone woman? It how I feel inside that’s the priority and anyone objecting to it is a bigoted cischild.

pisacake · 16/01/2018 19:00

Yes QueenArseClangers. Those horrible bullying children who don't want to let trans-age children play need to learn not to be so horribly adult-exclusionary.

Adults that identify as children are at higher risk of violence so it's really only FAIR that we should be in the under-8 play area with all the other under-8 identifying humans.

If your childhood is not intersectionary, does it even count as childhood? I think NOT. Those nasty children that don't accept us children shouldn't even be allowed to CALL themselves children.

My children will be intersecting with adults or they will be BULLSHIT.

So there.

Now excuse me I have a cam-porn session to film. BRB.
