www.usatoday.com/story/sports/olympics/2018/01/11/these-transgender-cyclists-have-olympian-disagreement-how-define-fairness/995434001/

As a women who has always played competitive sports, I’ve been following the progress of Transwomen and transgirls in sport. Seems this article shows that some transwomen are now pushing for no limits placed on TW at all. The article shows the disagreement between TW cyclists on the issue.

I guess if we really are to accept that TW are women then this is actually the logical outcome. If TW are women then to put special measures and judgements in place for TW would indeed be prejudiced and discriminatory.

I personally think there should be a separate trans olympics. If trans people start winning all the women’s events, the backlash against them will be horrific, let alone the frustartaion for women who have to try to compete against them.
That way, there would also be a way female to male trans to compete as well.

araiwa · 15/01/2018 12:09

I wish their was an olympic event about starting trans threads. Gold for aibu

NannyOggsKnickers · 15/01/2018 12:12

Yes, this is the most thorny issue in the current trans ideology. If trans women are women, but with male physical capabilities, then how can they be prevent from competing in women’s sports to the detriment of biologically weaker women?

I’m not sure why trans women can’t be trans women. Why do they need to be women?

bambambini · 15/01/2018 12:13

There’s just do much gob smacking material to work with.

They are not really women so should be allowed to compete as such. Should have iwn events

VladmirsPoutine · 15/01/2018 12:18

That is indeed the logical conclusion. What really rankles about the TW issue is the #NoDebate aspect of it - ergo just suck it up. And the rise of all these terms that in all my decades of being a woman I'd never encountered c.f 'cis' 'natal woman' Confused

mikeyssister · 15/01/2018 12:50

I think the rules should be applied consistently to trans and non-trans men and women, boys and girls.

If there was no proven advantage to higher testosterone in sports, athletes wouldn't have been doping with it for years.

busyboysmum · 15/01/2018 12:56

I think that there needs to be new legislation to distinguish between trans people and natal people. They are biologically the sex that they were born and no amount of cosmetic surgery or medication can change that. They should only be allowed to compete in their biological category.

Rebeccaslicker · 15/01/2018 13:01

But busyboys, what about those formerly male athletes who were average at best in the male categories? However will they win anything if they can't compete against women or girls?!

StarShapedWindow · 15/01/2018 13:02

If/when trans women start winning all the women’s sporting completions it will only serve to prove the point that trans women are in reality men. The first biological woman that wins the race will be the person who people will feel is the actual winner. We cannot pretend biology doesn’t exist. This entire chapter of societal change is like the book ‘The Emperor has no Clothes’.

busyboysmum · 15/01/2018 13:15

Rebecca I have thought about that and my answer is "Tough" Smile

It's so blindingly unfair to the women who are competing against what are to all intents and purposes men.

But look what happened to the Samoan weightlifter who complained about the Australian Laurel Hubbard beating her in the competition:

Lauren Jeska was a TW and top Britains top women’s fell runner. Seems the other competitors didn’t know. Laurel Hubbard won 2 silver medals in the recent Women’s World Weight Lifting Championships. Wonder what the reaction will be if they’ll go on to take gold at the Olympics or break the world record.

Bambambini: I guess it’s the beginning of another battle women must face and for our daughters sakes must win.

mailTo · 15/01/2018 13:54

Phew. 2 trans threads in one day. I was worried.

Sadly neither are original or interesting.

StarShapedWindow · 15/01/2018 14:00

MailTo: do you find your own contribution inspiring? I don’t.

bestthings · 15/01/2018 14:04

No point in having separate men's and women's events anymore. It's all meaningless now.

bestthings · 15/01/2018 14:06

And if i was a trans woman who'd won an event against women it's hard to see how i could feel any sense of achievement.

mailTo · 15/01/2018 14:08

@StarShapedWindow

Yes, I have them printed and stuck on my wall on A2 card in a swirly font with a sunset background. They're that inspiring.

Pannalash · 15/01/2018 14:11

Nanny

‘ I’m not sure why trans women can’t be trans women. Why do they need to be women?’ Completely agree.

MorrisZapp · 15/01/2018 14:17

Crikey, that McKinnon person thinks biology and advantage don't matter in elite sports? I hope she wins. I hope people who are blatantly men start standing on women's Olympic podiums and the whole effing world can witness the insanity.

Blue haired media studies students will go with anything that contains unicorns. Sports fans, not so much.

bambambini · 15/01/2018 14:48

I’m being stereotypical but wonder how much blue haired media and gender students are actually into sports. Quite few folk insist that being lovely and inclusive is much more important than girls and women losing to transwomen and TGs. One pister on mumsnet even said she’d be so proud if her daughter happily sacrificed her team place or medal so a transboy/woman could be accepted and included.

Kimchibest · 15/01/2018 14:53

They should compete in a trans catagory, it is ridiculous for men to be competing in the women's sports, the physical differences are obvious and it's not an even playing field.

sirlee66 · 15/01/2018 14:59

Why can't men and women all just compete together! Like in quidditch!!!

manicinsomniac · 15/01/2018 15:00

I completely disagree with TW taking part in women's sports.

But I don't know what the answer is.

A Trans olympics/category would be fairly pointless surely because the standard would be either really low or widely variable (ie - not many people are outstanding at sport and not many people are trans so the number of people who are both trans AND outstanding at sport would be really low. Therefore to fill the category, you'd have to let people who weren't actually much good take part which would be a) boring to watch and b) frustrating for the few who actually were of an international standard.
