I don't understand why we can't name them. Their profiles are out there for everyone to see hmm It would be like trying to discuss an episode of The Kardashians without naming any of the names.

I think this is what it boils down to. Do you genuinely see them as celebrities? They're mums. Normal people. On Mumsnet.
Not celebrities. I think these threads come to a head because you have the people who see it for parenting as it is,regardless of income or lifestyle, and those who think they have to aspire and become them otherwise they're inadequate.(Some said as much.)

FuckItPassMeTheWine · 08/04/2018 00:34

sorry someone is going to have explain asa? Is this some kind of anti bullying law ?

To be honest , when you mark your profile as "public person" on Instagram your pretty much allowing the world in ...,,newsflash , not everyone is going to like you, if that's not something you can deal with then having an open social media account with millions of followers is probs a bad idea ...

The ASA is Advertising Standards Authority

MadameGrizzly · 08/04/2018 00:37

Instamums are advertising businesses that happen to be mothers.

Or, their business model involves exploiting their children in order to pay their mortgage and enjoy free expensive consumer goods.

Depends how you look at it. But it's disingenuous to say they are just 'parenting'.

CadyHeron · 08/04/2018 00:38

No one has put down an account personally in a very long time.

It's not just about the putting down of instagram accounts personally, you surely realise that.
It's the putting down of people on the thread that have different viewpoints too.
No engaging, just ridiculing or name calling.

Mumofkids · 08/04/2018 00:40

Normal mums don't get interviewed for newspapers or magazines or get book deals and Boden wardrobes. Of course they are a kind of celebrity, that is the whole point.
They are the new z listers of reality shows, but a bit posh or middle class which causes confusion and an excellent marketing tool. They are not the average parent or mum just out there on the school run.

chicken2015 · 08/04/2018 00:40

Once the 'normal nums' turn their Instagram into a 'brand/business they r not able to be 'normal' as in just like every other mum as they are not doing what we all do usually like lots of hoildays , book lauches , network lunches

Mumofkids · 08/04/2018 00:42

There's been no ridiculing or name calling and it's exceptionally hard to engage with posters who have no intention of engaging. And as that was experienced by the majority, it's not just one exception. There was plenty of effective engagement.

ABuckToothedGirlinLuxembourg · 08/04/2018 00:42

Normal mums don’t all go on free cruises do they?

@cadyheron that happens on many many many threads , usually the comments are just removed. Sticks and stones and all that , crikey it's an Internet thread, people that have open social media accounts and operate as a business are entitled to be discussed just like any other company . Look at forever living and herbal life for instance , they get a bashing on here all the time, so what ? Who cares , it's discussion and opinions of which we are all ENTITLED too!

Mumofkids · 08/04/2018 00:44

A comment name calling or reported for ridiculing would just get removed.

FuckItPassMeTheWine · 08/04/2018 00:48

I'm actually very outraged that the thread has been closed down, this is surely what mumsnet is about.,,I love this forum too but this has really left a bad taste in my mouth. And as much as I can't stand the Daily Fail, I really hope they pick up on this !

wishwish · 08/04/2018 00:53

They are registered companies with agents that use 'mum' as their USP.

MadameGrizzly · 08/04/2018 00:53

I think it's really important to note too that this discussion is taking place away from the business accounts on Instagram.

The first couple of threads were a revelation to me that other people were questioning the grifting and undisclosed advertising, just like I was - because there is NO discussion allowed on Instagram.

As the threads have evolved the discussion has more clarity and focus, and is, I think, more interesting and valuable.

CadyHeron · 08/04/2018 00:56

You hope the Daily Fail are going to pick up on this? What would be their angle? Can't see the argument holding much traction.

Why am I instantly not very bright because the only explanation I can jump to is that "Mumsnet is blatantly in cahoots?" Confused

FuckItPassMeTheWine · 08/04/2018 01:10

Censorship is a big deal, especially when we live in a country where freeedom of speech is in place, what's next ? Censorship on the political parties we want to discuss? Internet black outs ?

CadyHeron · 08/04/2018 01:12

"Don't automatically jump to" that should read. Doh.

FuckItPassMeTheWine · 08/04/2018 01:15

@cndyheron i don't think I'll waste time replying to you further as deleting an active and established thread for no apparent reason is clearly off. You're obviously some kind of instamum that has taken offence to one of the threads somewhere. Don't you have an instastory or some cliche hashtags to post or something ?

CadyHeron · 08/04/2018 01:15

Yeah, and I'm all for free speech. Always have been and always be.
Come on though, some are not interested in any debate and just want to name call and jeer instead.
How is that getting anywhere?

FuckItPassMeTheWine · 08/04/2018 01:17

There ell always be "some" that's the nature of an Internet forum, don't you know that?
