I follow quite a few scandi accounts which are even better because I can’t read the captions so I have no idea whether they are selling to me or not! It would be good if Insta could give you an option to turn off captions and tags maybe (only half joking about this Grin)

Yes, I unfollow people so much more easily now. I get annoyed with people that story they’ve posted a new photo and it’s scibbled out, with those begging for new followers because they’re only just off the next thousand, with those that do repeated follow fridays with the same accounts mentioned over and over again. Oh and the "thanks for all the love" posts from repeat likers. I really could go on and on. I just delete them all now.

PavlovaPrincess · 08/04/2018 16:58

That's one of my pet hates. I know the algorithm changes who see what these days, but it comes across as so desperate.

Instagram has changed so much in these last couple of years. It's unrecognisable from when it first started.

Mumofkids · 08/04/2018 17:04

I genuinely find it fascinating how this will all pan out for kids. I imagine it depends to a large degree how the parents are about it all. But how will you cope if you life is full of amazing freebies and then it stops, whether they are clothes or holidays and if you aren't as popular or sought after as your parents or siblings. There's so many different angles and I experience sibling jealousy with my kids over life as it is (at times)
There's one mum who's kid actually is working in her own right as a model, she probably 8/9 and at least that will be regulated (although the mum specifies she's following her dream, I do wonder how a child of that age could have been dreaming of modelling but I've a feeling maybe the mum had links to that world) but how do young siblings feel.
It's all such a look at me environment.

wishwish · 08/04/2018 17:09

The psychological side really interests me, I mean with the adults.

There can be hundreds of comments on a post (granted they are other business Insta friends/smaller blogs looking for acknowledgement & some fans).

They can get hundreds of nice comments & they act so happy, then with one tiny slight comment not agreeing, they can go into a total meltdown!

It's all so uncomfortable.

By the way, I unfollowed the fashion Insta people a long time ago, just because style was somewhat lost under a pile of ads & 6 cashmere jumpers!

I reckon the more introverted children do look uneasy, but if all you’ve known is your parents posting pictures it’s normal to you. And we tend to trust our parents so how could you question it. Still it doesn’t mean that it’s not an uncomfortable thing.

None of us had it, would we have liked it? I don’t think I would have. At all

I know a couple of child models, in fact 3 now I think of it. A couple of the mums are actresses, so a similar sort of industry. The other mum isn't, but obviously loves fashion and clothes. I doubt whether the children had a really innate desire to be a child model, but it's a natural thing to follow something your parents do or are interested in. No different really to all the rugger or footie dads whose sons are passionate players at a young age. I suppose it is possible that the children of influencers may go into influencing themselves at some point. Not sure you would be allowed to have a child influencer account though?

I think kids these days see value in social media in a way that some of us of an earlier generation don't.

Without going off too much at a tangent, everyone has a phone these days and it's easy to upload your everyday life to IG, YouTube etc. Absolutely no talent required. You don't have to be able to sing, act, write or whatever.

I know my own kids see it as an easy route to fame and stardom and riches as much as I try and discourage them.

I guess what's interesting is that a lot of the people we're talking about are already well off and well educated and they've still gone down this route. Beats working for a living, I guess.

FuckItPassMeTheWine · 08/04/2018 17:41

For me Instagram is starting to feel like a superficial ad campaign that never stops , I always mute at commercial breaks , I can actually see society becoming bored of it in the next 5 years .

Someone mentioned "ca scandal" what is that?

Still can't believe the thread was taken down, hope this one stays or I'll take my account elsewhere. Mumsnet needs to remember to stay humble , it's the "nobodies " that are the majority of this forum not your z listers or instamums.

Mumofkids · 08/04/2018 17:43

@pavlovaprincess agreed mine do to, one of mine wants me to sign her to an agency... they sing so I pay for lessons etc
@flyingbird that's interesting, I know mine would be jealous!

Mumofkids · 08/04/2018 17:47

On a different note is it legal to film yourself driving? With your phone?

miamimice · 08/04/2018 17:57

FuckIt it is Cambridge Analytica, Facebook shared pretty much everyone's (it is turning out) personal data with them (and god knows who else ) which has been used for nefarious means, including subverting democracy (allegedly - do I need to say that? I think it is a pretty mainstream belief now). Now there's influencing!

Yes it is definitely illegal to film yourself while driving. Bloggers unveiled have outed a few Irish bloggers doing this.

miamimice · 08/04/2018 17:59

I came very close to de-registering yesterday. The tone of MN's post when they took the thread down made me pretty cross.

Stopyourhavering64 · 08/04/2018 18:33

I now zoom pass any IG post that has #ad....I'm sure this isn't what the instamums want , but like commercial TV i record programmes and fast forward through the adverts
I much prefer DIY/ home Reno/ traveller accounts anyway
I have unfollowed many on IG who use this technique now...this thread has opened my eyes to their ethics and techniques ...we have too much 'stuff' as it is and I don't need the latest scamp and dude sweatshirt

nipersvest · 08/04/2018 18:36

It's illegal to film while driving unless its totally hands free, like FOD in the Renault, the cameras are fitted and I guess just film every time they use the car and then its edited down.

the grey area is if the filming is deemed as a distraction, then it becomes also illegal. I even find music in the car distracting, so it would never cross my mind to film in the car.

miamimice · 08/04/2018 18:39

Yes, sorry I should have said, the handsfree bit is the important thing! Bloggers unveiled have shown wobbly footage of bloggers filming their nails while they drive - definitely not on handsfree. Fixed cameras would be ok, but very few bloggers would have that sort of kit.

jamoncrumpets · 08/04/2018 18:41

A lot of influencers don't film on their phones. They use Go-Pros and professional photographers.

Mumofkids · 08/04/2018 18:45

I guess the camera could move around? It seems to normal video from the by the rear view mirror, so as it appeared the same as in the store it was possible it was the phone on a stand. And whilst Bluetooth is legal, touching your phone whilst the engine is running is illegal.

Mumofkids · 08/04/2018 18:47

I know vloggers tend to use certain cameras. Just filming yourself grooving and driving (and quite possibly mortifying your kidsWink) looks quite distracting!
