Can’t see to proceed out of drive

cuddly61 · 13/01/2018 17:15

Ok I got a problem. My neighbour is parking his lorry right up to the entrance of my drive over the sloped kerbstone that forms a dropped kerb.it totally obstructs my view of oncoming traffic and totally obstructs the view of oncoming traffic to actually see my car proceeding from my drive.
It’s difficult to swing out to.
There isn’t a option speaking to my neighbour as they have done nothing but cause problems for me yet I never done anything wrong to them they just took a dislike .
I have already asked the highways about a white t bar being painted but they said they don’t do that no more also they said they don’t put mirrors up no more as that would had solved the problem.
But I’m so worried if I do hit oncoming traffic am I held responsible?
The police are not interested I’m just told he is not breaking the law.
It doesn’t matter if I turned left or right my view is still totally obscured.
And makes no difference reversing out or driving forwards out.
Any advice please

I’m a bit worried about posting a photo as I did on another site mostly men members and I got comments like learn to drive etc. And the position of my cctv.as it covers the road as well but a police officer told me to position it like that in any event he blocks my drive etc also the police have seen the position of all my cameras and they had no problem with it.

Get better CCTV. Move it closer. Place lights at the end your drive to light up the area where you’ve parked.

stickytoffeevodka · 13/01/2018 19:52

Can you park in front of your drive instead? We have two cars and one driveway and I often park blocking our drive.

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 13/01/2018 19:52

You know what actually, forget that. Buy two cheap banger cars. Tax and mot them and park them either side of your drive leaving enough space for you to comfortably get in and out and see the oncoming traffic but not enough room for them to get a car in between your drive and the banger car. They can scratch them all they want, it doesn’t matter.

mishfish · 13/01/2018 19:56

Does the name of the company begin with an A?

SeaToSki · 13/01/2018 19:59

Is there a convenient lamp post opposite your driveway that you can attach one of those curved mirrors to? We have one at the end of our road as it is difficult to see to pull out, and it really helps visibility.

GreenShadow · 13/01/2018 19:59

Would you be able to put up a mirror yourself?
I know Highways won't/aren't allowed to, but that doesn't mean you can't.
Plenty of people put private ones up to help them exit their drives - do you have a friendly neighbour opposite who might agree to having one on their land?

safariboot · 13/01/2018 20:01

Do you know if he ever does subcontracting work to the AA/RAC/Green Flag/similar? If he does, complain about it to them and possibly post about it on social media.

cuddly61 · 13/01/2018 20:04

Ok I just found a site that states contravention code 27 of parking you can not park over the sloping kerbstone to a dropped kerb .so that police officer who told me it’s only the flat bit was wrong .
But now I have to find out exactly who I can report this to and what action can they take. I got photos of him parked over the sloped bit so I have the evidence.

I am very sympathetic OP as people parking badly either side of my drive is a constant problem.

Labradoodliedoodoo · 13/01/2018 20:07

Parallel park on entrance to your drive

Oldraver · 13/01/2018 20:11

Always reverse in. No one should be reversing out onto a road IMO

LadyLapsang · 13/01/2018 20:12

We have a similar problem, only in our case there are several houses involved and at least three of us have had accidents coming out of the drive, but the council refuses to give us a yellow line or longer white line. I find having the window down makes a difference. Have you tried asking traffic police to advice you on exiting safely, rather than complaining about the lorry. Then, maybe they might take action. I wonder if your insurance company could help, because if you had an accident the lorry may be partly at fault.

GruffaIo · 13/01/2018 20:12

Do you have a white line painted to demarcate the dropped kerb? That should extend to cover the sloped stones too. Here, they tend to extend the white lines even a little beyond that - lots of neighbours got them painted because of the mums parking anywhere they felt for the private school on our street.

LadyLapsang · 13/01/2018 20:12

At least we have a turning circle so never have to reverse out.

cuddly61 · 13/01/2018 20:32

Our highways don’t paint white lines no more. I did think of asking a police officer to visit then give him my cars keys and saying if he would would he try and get my car off my drive so he then knows the problem .im afraid our local police don’t seem to take action I have in the past shown them footage of him leaving his lorry parked in the middle of the road completely blocking it while he has gone to get his car out his drive to park outside my house after moving his lorry from outside my house to prevent me from parking outside my own house before I had my driveway put in. That was after they kept blocking my car in on purpose.he waited until I went out one day straight away came out and moved his lorry to right outside my house leaving me no room to park when I got back then when he was going out in his lorry if his wife was there she would get their car off the drive and be waiting to park as he moved off in his lorry as he drove forwards she would be waiting to drive in it’s place.if she wasn’t there he would move his lorry blocking the road completely then quickly get their car off the drive to park in its place .no we wasn’t quick enough to run out and get our car parked there not only that he made sure we couldn’t by blocking the road with his lorry. Oh he had the whole space in front of his own house to park.so yes it was harrasment by them.
So you can understand why I had a driveway put in.

Here you are this is how they would block my car in ,police did nothing said I didn’t know they had done it on purpose even when I said they had a empty drive and why would they park all that way from their own door when they had a empty drive

Can’t see to proceed out of drive

Is your car the one stuck in the middle?? Shock

FluffyWuffy100 · 13/01/2018 21:31

He’s practically parked over your car!!!!

mishfish · 13/01/2018 21:42

OP we had similar near us a few years ago. Have you checked with your local council whether he’s permitted to park his work vehicle where he is? The way he’s parked with you in the middle is a disgrace.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 13/01/2018 21:48

White lines are advisory only, so even if you could get one painted he could still park on it.

PipLongStockings · 13/01/2018 21:49

I had a twat neighbour like this before. Had a second vehicle purely to hold spaces for his van. Car never went anywhere. Bloody moved eventually as it pissed me off so much

FluffyWuffy100 · 13/01/2018 21:50

He’s probably the complete twat who drove then rescue vehicles when my car needed towing.

He was boasting about how if anyone parked on the road outside his home he just used his tow to move them.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 13/01/2018 22:04

Hi OP. Have you had a look for his O license disc? It should be visible on the left of the windscreen, and carry a number and an expiry date. It might be an idea to look up the terms of his license and the location of his operating centre. Put "O license check" into Google. If it's not parked at the operating centre, take pictures and contact your local Traffic Commissioner. The complaint you'll be making is "parking otherwise than in accordance with a license". If you've complained to the police, forward the crime numbers to the TC. Also keep a diary of when the vehicle moves; it may have restrictions on when it can move.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 13/01/2018 22:10

Bugger. As you said earlier, it's mostly likely exempt. However, if he's using it as a car transporter, he might be licensed.
