Is it snobby of me to not want it in my bedroom?

DP wants us to have a TV in the bedroom.

We already have a massive TV in the living room, when actually when I lived alone, I never had one in the first place (would just stream films if in the mood for watching something).

I told him it just didn't sit right with me, a TV in the bedroom, and he said I was being a snob.

But I'm right aren't I?

Can anyone help me pinpoint why exactly it feels wrong? It just does to me, anyway!

Have you got a telly in your bedroom?

LineysRunt · 10/01/2018 15:31

I've never had a TV in my bedroom til recently. I've got a chronic recurring medical condition which can have me needing to stay in bed for a couple of days. It was a Godsend when I came out of hospital and was stuck in bed for a week

Same here, RedGlitter. Obviously I am a very discerning viewer and watch lots of documentaries about Lady Jane Grey and plane crashes.

Xpost - total tosh!

I’m umc with aristocrat forebears and family - no-one gives a fuck about tomatoes. When I visit my aunt it’s a mercy if there’s no dog hair in the butter.

For me - I just don’t like lettuce and tomato together.

FreddieClaryHorshieLion · 10/01/2018 15:35

Does this mean that I get to preen about the fact that DH used to make green salads (before we moved together) or be upset that I ehm... ‘tainted’ his perfectly acceptable salad habits with my ‘lower-class forrin’ ones? Grin

But on a more serious note. Green salad with ‘just’ tomatoes is a bit weird in my personal opinion. But that’s probably because I’m lazy Grin
I either make a green salad or a mixed one (which needs more than tomatoes and lettuce...)

But DH and I do have different opinions about salad sauces Grin

FreddieClaryHorshieLion · 10/01/2018 15:36

*On a more serious note ‘when talking about salad’ Wink

Notreallyarsed · 10/01/2018 15:38

I’ve honestly never even thought about it before 😂
I’m now querying if I’ve been making salad wrong for 25 + years. But then it goes down fine in our house so I guess that’s a plus.

Sauces? What kind of sauces can you do with salad? I’m learning on this thread!

MontalbanoFan · 10/01/2018 15:39

No tv in bedroom - but I found out the other day that I was working class because I serve carrots in round shapes not batons Shock.

FreddieClaryHorshieLion · 10/01/2018 15:44

notreally some people use mayonnaise, honey, mustard, spices, garlic, cheese, a normal vinaigrette, lemon salad dressing...

(I either do very little vinegar, a little salt and a lot of oil. Or use lemons... or don’t make any sauce at all.)

pullingmyhairout1 · 10/01/2018 15:46

Tv in ours but only able to watch dvds on it, and we rarely watch it. Have better things to do!

Ermmm6 · 10/01/2018 15:46

No we never had a tv in our bedroom. Go there to sleep not watch tv. Couch is comfy enough for tv.

BitchQueen90 · 10/01/2018 15:47

I don't put tomatoes in salad because I hate tomatoes. Why do they have to be in everything Angry

ClementineWardrobe · 10/01/2018 15:47

Agree, bedrooms are for sleep and sex. That's it. It's not snobbery, a major part of it is that I never want the news on in my bedroom; it depresses me hearing about sad events, I don't want that blaring into what's meant to be a haven. The light from the TV will disturb your sleep even if your partner has headphones on.

whydidievergetmarried · 10/01/2018 15:53

No your not snobby at all. We had a small tv in our room but it never got used so I sold it. We are not big TV watchers ourselves and only have one in the living room and that's only ever on in the evening because my husband likes to watch a few programmes. I never have the TV on in the day either or weekend. It does not make you a snob.

NanooCov · 10/01/2018 15:55

I never had one in the bedroom until my now DH moved in. We have a small one but in reality rarely use it. Really only if one of us is ill.

Woodfordhound · 10/01/2018 15:58

but doesn’t the steam make your bed soggy?
Not that I’ve noticed. We’re lucky in that the bedroom is fairly huge. Bed one end and bath the other.

Notreallyarsed · 10/01/2018 15:59

@FreddieClaryHorshieLion I do like vinaigrette, and honey and mustard sounds good thanks!

Ah that explains it Woodfordhound thanks. We’ve no space in our bedroom anyway Grin

Oly5 · 10/01/2018 16:07

I love my TV in the bedroom. All the kids pile in on a weekend morning and we can all relax with Tv and chatting. Bliss. I also love it for late night box sets/movies or when I’m ill.
Have no trouble sleeping so not fussed about those supposed effects

BendydickCuminsnatch · 10/01/2018 16:19

I used to be like you OP, but DH coverted me. We only have a tiny one in our room but I absolutely love my bed so having a TV in the bedroom saves me lugging my duvet downstairs Grin Love watching some netflix before bed now!

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 10/01/2018 16:21

No. I go to bed to sleep. My aunt bought me a portable DVD player for the bedroom. I've never used it.

DailyMailareDicks · 10/01/2018 16:23

I have a massive TV in my bedroom. And a kettle, toaster, fridge and Sky Q.Grin

I'm disabled though and due to having no downstairs loo, if I have a period of ill health I tend to hibernate until better. Don't think anyone needs an excuse though, it's just the same as staying in a lovely hotel!

piggybrownhare · 10/01/2018 16:24

Surely it’s just preference, what’s it got to do with snobbery? Personally I love having a TV in my room but I don’t expect everyone to feel the same. I look after elderly people in their own homes and very few of them have TV’s in their rooms. I always think it’s a shame as I really think some of them would get some enjoyment from it but people have set ideas, ultimately it’s their choice.

DarthNigel · 10/01/2018 17:47

I've got one. But dp insisted on a much bigger one that I wanted and that id had previously. I feel like a moron and I hate it.
I don't know why!!

TheGirlWithAllTheFeathers · 10/01/2018 17:56

Just say no. I know lots of people do but I've never found them to be restful.

Bratsandtwats · 10/01/2018 18:19

We've never had tv's in our bedroom, but I do watch films in bed on my laptop sometimes.

TheDailyMailIsADisgustingRag · 10/01/2018 18:25

We have one in our room, but we are far from posh Grin! I even have a tattoo, (although so does my friend who is the granddaughter of a Lady - @notreally, are you her)?!

Anyway, I prefer tv to smart phones tbh. I’d love a smart phone ban in the house, but Dh and I are a bit hooked on them.

m0therofdragons · 10/01/2018 18:26

Tv is my alarm clock so only time it's used is first thing in the morning do I can hear the news before work (work often relates to news if it's NHS stories). Otherwise it's used when dc are poorly and in my bed (maybe once that happened) or dh wants to play PS4 and I want to watch The Crown in the living room.

I don't allow TVs in dc rooms or the dining room though. Never thought of those with bedroom TVs as lower class - my rather posh grandmother would be horrified as she has one 😂
