According to a panel of experts it is.

I always thought it was gentle, sentimental clap trap that your parents wanted you to watch to keep you a child forever.

Personally I think the top title should have gone to Maid Marian and her Merry Men or Thunderbirds.

What's your top tv show?

Bagpuss is the best.

I always thought Blue Peter was for the sorts of kids who went to Guides. Very wholesome and twee.

juliesaway · 10/01/2018 07:34

Loads of kids at our school weren’t allowed to watch Grange Hill as it was “a bad influence”. I remember once there was a storyline of everyone humming in class...and we all copied it at school in lessons and the teachers went ape shit. It only made the series more popular. I enjoyed Blue Peter, though it was worthy l, my mum was keen that I watched Children’s BBC and not Children’s ITV which was “common”.

I liked Blue Peter and still do. Other favourites were Dogtanian, Bagpuss, Mysterious Cities of Gold, No.73, The Littlest Hobo, The Box of Delights (which really hasn't aged well), The Adventure Game and Press Gang. Tbh, I think that Press Gang is probably the best of those.

Despite being a fairly biddable child who liked crafty things, even I knew BP for what it was - dull, worthy and twee! Love the comment above about it being for children who liked chores and holidays in the Peak District.

So many gems mentioned, loved Maid Marion, Press Gang, Byker Grove, anything with Tony Hart, Danger Mouse but my all time favourite...

Count Duckula! And I bet it’s still funny now.

DarthNigel · 10/01/2018 10:58

Yes to Maid Marion. I also loved Eerie Indiana.

DarthNigel · 10/01/2018 11:03

You can watch Marie Marion in you tube for the op who suggested it should be re run. My DD's loved it.

BuckysRoboticArm · 10/01/2018 11:26

Blue Peter was a giant pile of garbage even on it's best day.

Clarissa explains it all, Sabrina the teenage witch, Are you afraid of the dark, Powerpuff girls, Dexter's lab, Art Attack...fun times.

MexicanBob · 10/01/2018 11:27

Oh FFS it was the Magic Roundabout .

FloControl · 10/01/2018 11:30

Chigley, The Herbs, Ludwig, Barbapapa, Noah and Nelly, Rainbow. And not forgetting...Dangermouse.

heron98 · 10/01/2018 11:31

Goodness - Maid Marion. I had totally forgotten about that. It used to make me laugh out loud. Perhaps I'll search for it on YouTube.

x2boys · 10/01/2018 11:36

Dramarama any one remember that ? I remember loads of these bloody zammo and his heroin addiction it gave me nightmares , Blue Peter was always a bit meh my era was Simon Groom ,Sarah Green and Peter Duncan I vaguely remember Lesley Judd and John Noakes though .

OldBean2 · 10/01/2018 11:39

For those of us who endured The Singing Ringing Tree in Tales from Europe then yes, Blue Peter was definitely the best.

HeteronormativeHaybales · 10/01/2018 11:58

Yes to Dramarama! I also have a vague memory of a programme called Them & Us about (I think) a juvenile court.Anyone else?

Loved Byker Grove and Press Gang.

Introduced my kids to Count Duckula and Dangermouse - instant hits.

When younger, Bagpuss, Bod, Chockablock.

HeteronormativeHaybales · 10/01/2018 12:00

Oh, and Pigeon Street!

MakeMisogynyAHateCrime · 10/01/2018 13:52

I actually had a nightmare about the Demon Headmaster over the Christmas period.
Even though it came out when I was 12 it still scared the living daylights out of me.

MakeMisogynyAHateCrime · 10/01/2018 13:56

Does anyone remember Spatz? It was based around a retro burger bar. I think it was on ITV around 1992ish.

Namechangetempissue · 10/01/2018 13:59

Blue Peter was just awful -so, so boring. It was a desperation watch at best. Having a Blue Peter badge was incredibly uncool at our school Grin
Loved Maid Marion, Grange Hill, Byker and Round the Twist. Eerie Indiana was good too.

peachgreen · 10/01/2018 14:40

I remember Spatz!

Paddington68 · 10/01/2018 14:44

Choky, Box of Delights, Dramaramamama, Press Gang, Grange Hill, but the best has to be John Craven's Newsround - I did have a crush on Howard Stableford.

YouTheCat · 10/01/2018 19:59

Puddle Lane.

BeyondThePage · 10/01/2018 20:06

Magpie
The Tomorrow People (1970s version)
Mary Mungo and Midge
and Pipkins - though I was a bit scared of Hartley... Blush

Theweasleytwins · 10/01/2018 20:06
