Whenever we see news coverage of events like this there are huge crowds outside the venue. I'm wondering if being part of that crowd is an easy thing to do?

I doubt it's that hard, you get a train to Windsor and then walk to the castle and choose your spot.

I personally wouldn't be interested in doing it but each to their own.

Sweetpea55 · 08/01/2018 13:19

I think there will be hundreds I can people there.
I think if you can go the night before, tolerate the cold and maybe rain. The lack of access to a loo. Feeling grubby and the probability that you might not see much at all. Then go.. I bet the aspherical and camoradary is great.
I'm past all this performance now stay at home, warm with snacks and a loo at get a great view on the TV. If you do go op, wave to me!!

Sweetpea55 · 08/01/2018 13:19

Atmosphere I meant to say... Bloody predictor text.

AnguaResurgam · 08/01/2018 13:22

I think OP is getting a hammering, in part at least, because she has posted in AIBU not the topic.

And if they're getting married in St Georges Chapel, there won't be anything to see except arrival of guests who are not staying in the castle. So the event will most likely attract the really fanatical followers, who'll probably camp out an unbelievably long time in advance.

Battleax · 08/01/2018 13:23

Yes, in all seriousness, this^

If you want to do it just go and go early.

AhCheeses · 08/01/2018 13:27

It's easy enough to be there... it'll be crazy busy but the atmosphere in town when there is a big event on is fab!
I was working on the day of Charles and Camilla's wedding and could hear the crowds cheering and singing.
I was in town on the day of the Queen's 90th. My friend called and said she had a fab spot so I met her. We chatted with Phil which was much more fun than meeting Liz as you're almost guaranteed he'll say something inappropriate or funny... he didn't disappoint.
Definitely go with someone else, or make friends quickly with the people around you so you have someone to save your place if you need to pee! There's toilets in the station just by the castle, Daniels dept store, M&S...

sonjadog · 08/01/2018 13:29

I went to a royal wedding in a different country and a friend and I stood outside the church and cheered and waved at the appropriate moments. It was a lot of fun and we still remember it about 20 years later. It's one of these things where you get caught up in the moment. Neither of us are particularly interested in royalty btw.

I think if you want to, then go. It will be a different day out to the average, and that will make it more memorable. Make sure you bring drinks and snacks, hat if it is warm so you don't get sunstroke, and be prepared for a lot of waiting.

CrumpettyTree · 08/01/2018 13:31

Go for it. It'll be a good atmosphere and might be fun.

CrumpettyTree · 08/01/2018 13:32

What did Phil say Cheeses?

RoseAndRose · 08/01/2018 13:34

For those who frequent these sorts of crowds - should one take a shewee?

LaurieMarlow · 08/01/2018 13:35

Prince Andrew is single iirc.

Hahahahahaha. Whadda catch. Grin

OP, if that's what you want, go for it. That's what the royals are there for after all.

WallisofWindsor · 08/01/2018 13:35

As a Windsor resident, I'm dreading the crowd. It's bad enough in summer with tourists- I just can't imagine how the crowd will be this time.

ilovesooty · 08/01/2018 13:39

Each to their own I suppose.
I'd rather watch the Cup final - I hope this wedding isn't going to disrupt the coverage.

Toblernone · 08/01/2018 13:40

This www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00CXNMS5M/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?keywords=she+wee+disposable&dpPl=1&dpID=313aUwcELEL&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1515418720&sr=8-1 and a She Wee is the answer to the loo problems... and presumably a bag for life to put all the used ones in (boak)

AhCheeses · 08/01/2018 13:42

Crumpetty- this is totally outing but I don't care...
My friend's children held flowers out as he came towards us, he said 'oh are they for the Queen?' Then asked if they wanted to give them to her.** He got one of the police men to lift the children over and take them to the Queen, then said 'We'll try our best to bring them back!' 😁
His lady in waiting looked shocked and said 'I'll get them back to you, I promise'
He's fab.**

AhCheeses · 08/01/2018 13:43

Eeek! Sorry about the bold... 🙈

LIZS · 08/01/2018 13:44

I doubt you will get to see much, unless they walkabout outside the confines of the castle. St George's chapel is within the main precinct.

CrumpettyTree · 08/01/2018 13:44

Ha ha. I'm not always a fan of him (I like some of the others) but that's funny.

Royalcoronation · 08/01/2018 13:45

Ah I can't keep up anymore. Thanks for the helpful advice. And thanks to everyone who replied, even if it was just to tell me I was sad and pathetic Grin

I work in Windsor and we're all planning on working from home that week. As someone already said, it's bad enough during the normal tourist season, but this will be ridiculous. OP, hope you're not planning on staying in a Windsor hotel - prices will be through the roof! London prices will be high too due to the FA Cup final.

I wouldn't watch it on telly either!

AhCheeses · 08/01/2018 13:53

I'd be surprised if there's any rooms still available in Windsor!
Crumpetty, he's crackers!

FizzyGreenWater · 08/01/2018 14:00

I think her being the Duchess of Suits would be fantastic.

Every time someone within the City Wall wore a suit, they'd have to pay her a groat.

Think how much they'd raise for charity. All those suity people, tipping their groats on pain of being melted in the dungeon of the Suit Duchess.

Royalcoronation · 08/01/2018 14:03

We are staying 6 nights in one of the hotels near Heathrow, easy to get to Windsor if we decide to do it.

OP posts:
Myheartbelongsto · 08/01/2018 14:07

I can't understand why anyone would do this. How sad

Amanduh · 08/01/2018 14:08

Well, it's not in London.
If you want to go go - you'll have to go the day before for a front spot or go on the day and hang at the back. The atmosphere always looks amazing and fun!
Have fun either way op
