AIBU to rage at knicker gussets - or is it me? (lighthearted!)

First off, by knicker gussets I mean the double fabric bit that covers your under-carriage. And I've always presumed it has the cottony bit to be kind to your delicate areas and catch the odd drop of fanny juice that may leak out.

Well, my anatomy seems to be that anything liquid that you'd want to be caught in your knickers winds its way through all my labia, to exit at the front. This means it misses the gusset and hits the flimsy fabric - so it's visible. Is that just me it happens to? Am I an outlier, or have all knicker manufacturers got womens' anatomy wrong for all this time?

While this has never been a significant problem up to now, aside from careful positioning of sanitary towels during periods, it's now an issue thanks to peri-menopoause causing my fanny to get quite runny. I really don't want to have to wear panty liners every single day (hot and itchy), but I do because otherwise I'll be washing knickers AND trousers every day and I generally get a 2-3 days wear out of my trousers.

Anyone else? Blush

This thread is cracking me up! Those bulge pouch boxers, spreadsheets, flaps in the market... I'm dying!

SoupDragon · 09/01/2018 18:56

Are you wearing the correct size of knickers or even a reasonable style to facilitate your undercarriage.

Ahhhh... that must be it! I’m wearing size zero thongs rather than correctly sized sturdier Big Pants!

Not.

Funko · 09/01/2018 19:00

I happen to be wearing MASSIVE knickers today and still the same BlushGrin

TheBadgersMadeMeDoIt · 09/01/2018 19:06

Are you wearing the correct size of knickers or even a reasonable style to facilitate your undercarriage. A lot of females wear very scanty bodies knickers that come with a matching flimsy cotton gusset.

Oh I promise my days of scanty pants are loooong gone! I do remember my first thong though. Age 17, I had one of those black dental-floss things with a "gusset" the size and shape of a green Quality Street.

These days my knickers could cover a small car. There is ample room for a decent gusset...it's just always in the wrong place.

OptimisticHamster · 09/01/2018 19:07

We urgently need more knicker manufacturers to allow for more front gusset inches.

Is it just sloggi so far that's been recommended?

EustaciaPieface · 09/01/2018 19:18

Another sufferer here. And I wear big knickers every day! Must look into Sloggis.

  • Mon 08-Jan-18 22:21:52 So glad to find I'm not alone. I've been puzzled by the apparent non-availability of front gussets for 25 years.

And when winged sanitary towels first came out, I was convinced I must be deformed or something. The position of the wings meant the pad ended up in completely the wrong place. More useful for catching unexpectedly damp farts than for any feminine dribblage*

When I finally started using winged pads, I bitched mightily that men must have designed them, and I always turn them around, backwards if you will. Slightly more usable then, although the thinnest part of the pad is then at the front where the most leakage is. Sigh, still convinced men designed em.
Big knickers lass here too, not worn a thong or any pretty undies for years, off to check sloggi now too

suzy2b · 09/01/2018 19:40

No problem for me knickers always fit fine and gusset in right place

bumpertobumper · 09/01/2018 19:48

#metoo
I have thought about starting a threat about this for a while, so thanks OP for doing it, and glad to hear that there are so many of us for whom the gusset is wrong.
Should we start a petition?

babyno5 · 09/01/2018 20:07

Me too! Also I am I the only one that looks at plastic chairs when I stand up? I think I must have one seriously hot fanny with the amount of condensation I leave on the seat! Anyone else?

polaricecaps · 09/01/2018 20:16

babyno5 you are not alone.

Oddly this is one of the most comforting threads I've ever read on the internet Grin

paxillin · 09/01/2018 20:19

The trouble is, the producers are unlikely to hear about it. Who would write to M&S about the position of the gusset, stressing the leakage. So we are stuck.

Fluffyears · 09/01/2018 20:23

Oh my god I thought it was just me,I wear night time sanitary pads backwards so the longer area is at the front.

Tillybilly1 · 09/01/2018 20:24

For those searching for diary dolls (the pants with a waterproof section to prevent leaks for any reason at front and back) think they are now called pretty clever pants and being sold on Highstreettv and are on three for two. With code AF5HSTV they work out at less than £20 for 3 pairs. Hope that helps. You can also get on amazon.

HemlockStarglimmer · 09/01/2018 20:25

Another one here with the same problem.
I'm post menopause now but have been put on a short course of HRT and my god the leakage! Had to buy pant liners for the first time in ten years and yes, I need to position them well up at the front.
I can't wait to get back to unstained undies.

So many of us! There was a giant thread on this last year.

LockedOutOfMN · 09/01/2018 20:27

Also yes re: knicker gussets, mine are somewhere mid spine while the actual area that might need a gusset is a long way further forward. In all pants, always.

babyno5 · 09/01/2018 20:29

Thank you @lockedoutofMN I feel hugely relieved now but gutted (or should that be gusseted?) I missed it!!

nannykatherine · 09/01/2018 20:34

PotteryLottery · 09/01/2018 20:38

Always Dailies are very good to wear every day, you can barely feel them.

Yes, I have the same problem with the position on winged pads too...did they not test them on real women???

MelloDee · 09/01/2018 20:38

I'm so grateful for this thread. For years I thought my undercarriage was abnormal. I thought I was the only one who was all 'wrong' down there and suffered from this exact problem!

I'm a small size 8 pear shape with a big round bum and generous thighs. I'm unsure where I am on the fanjo size-omiter though! I've no idea what size the average foof is tbh - however it's clearly not the Barbie foof that I did think was the average size for all these bloody years!

I am yet to find ANY knickers with a proper functional gusset (just a mo while I turn inside out at using the word 'gusset' - eurgh, awful word!). I've always had to size up when buying knickers.

The reusable pads and liners are a revelation to me. Thank you MNers. I never knew they existed. I shall be purchasing some soon!

ilovechocolate07 · 09/01/2018 21:18

I could never wear underwear without a pantyliner and it has nothing to do with position of gusset, Im quite envious!
