Frustrated with the multiple cars my neighbour has! (Title edited by MNHQ)

I am absolutely raging!

We live on a lovely little street which just so happens to be a dead end, we live right at the bottom of the street and there’s houses either side, the law of the land forever and a day has been the left hand side of the road is left clear whilst vehicles park on the right hand side of the road (outside their houses!).

A new family moved into a house half way down the street on the right hand side, and own 9 vehicles - yes that’s right 9 vehicles for just him and his wife!!

Now, this is where the problem starts...next to my property is a small area of unused land, where these lovely folk seem to park 4/5 of their 9 vehicles causing myself and OH not to be able to get our cars onto our drive as they park adjacent to our driveway.

We’ve tried various different ways to resolve the problem, we’ve spoken to them (they didn’t take a blind bit of notice!), I phoned the police as 2/4 vehicles are actually declared SORN so shouldn’t be there but as the land is owned by LA it’s not deemed as being a public highway so there was nothing they could do, I’ve phoned DVLA & reported it that way, I’ve spoken to the LA that own the land to see if they have permission to be parking the SORN vehicles on their land and to be honest I don’t seem to be getting anywhere fast!

Besides taking the matter into our own hands I really don’t know what else we can do? I’m so fed up! I’m beginning to hate living here & to be honest I just want to be able to put our vehicles on our double driveway - surely that’s not too much to ask?

Sorry for such a long whinge post but it’s just really getting me down! Please please please let me know if you have ANY suggestions as to how I can rectify this problem! I’m at the end of my tether!

But they aren't parking on the road? Not really sure why they stop you accessing your drive... Did you used to drive over the grass?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 06/01/2018 10:23

What's the brick structure at the side of your drive? Its too wide and low to be a wall but I can't see what it is . Can you take that down?

You could put a thinner fence up, chain and padlock to fence it off.

Divaroses26 · 06/01/2018 10:24

It’s worth mentioning too that when my LO needed an ambulance recently the ambulance couldn’t even get outside our house because of how they had parked! Heaven forbid there was a fire or more serious incident.

Sorry, missed 2nd page.

Notevilstepmother · 06/01/2018 10:25

Is it that you can’t get a car on your drive, or that your reversing isn’t good enough to get a car on? I can’t work it out from the photo, we need a birds eye view diagram.

Divaroses26 · 06/01/2018 10:25

Thanks for all your help MNers, back to the drawing board for us!

I think also think it's an unlicensed business so reporting that to the LA is probably your best legal way of getting them to move the vehicles. Can you get some of the other neighbours to also report it. LA can also put up no parking signs on the verges to discourage further parking. Sadly it's becoming a more common problem as cheeky fuckers rely on people being too polite/ scared to call them up on their Anti social behaviour

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 06/01/2018 10:28

Dog shit under the handle isn't an offence (AFAIK) because it doesn't impair vision unlike Vaseline or lip salve on the wipers.

And no damage to paintwork or glass

Emilybrontescorsett · 06/01/2018 10:28

Good idea about the bird seed .

MsHarry · 06/01/2018 10:28

Oh MN, we are capable of using our brains to discern the meaning of a title. Do we have to be so worried over every little word?? The things I've read on this site and petrol bomb gets removed!

Tinty · 06/01/2018 10:30

OP if they have 4 cars parked on the private land and 2 of them are sorned, do they move the other 2 cars? Can you park your cars on that patch of land in 2 of the spaces as often as you can and leave your drive clear. That should inconvenience them then and maybe they will start to be more considerate to you.

Tinty · 06/01/2018 10:31

Or park on the green patch outside your house where they block your drive.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 06/01/2018 10:38

Do you and DH have 2 cars?
Because if you park outside of your drive and leave it empty , they might park in front of your drive and block you out which is legal (and they probably know the legalities as they've taken over the waste ground)

I have a multi car neighbour. They park a massive vehicle directly in front of me (legally) but its a PITA because the road is narrow, I always reverse in but space is tight.
My NDN suggested I pinch the space if they move but I was concerned he'd park across my OSP. She said "Yes he probably would "

Divaroses26 · 06/01/2018 10:42

Yes we have two cars, DH May be getting a works vehicle Monday too, so we were considering to demolishing our front wall totally and removing area of grass lawn to house all tree vehicles. Why can’t everyone think like this? If we park directly outside our house, half on the pavement half on the road, then as the road is so narrow we block total access to the wasteland area and as advised by the police it’s then us committing an offence not them Hmm

Is there any covenant in the deeds or lease to your properties which specifies that the access must be kept clear for such eventualities?

Divaroses26 · 06/01/2018 10:46

Don’t know Enrique - will have to look at the deeds! I suppose many moons ago when these houses were built nobody envisaged vehicles becoming so popular and consequently needing housing so to speak.

Why don't you park on the verge?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 06/01/2018 10:48

YY , I think opening up your garden (and take the wall down) but make sure you make the boundary 100% clear or yo might find them piling onto it if it looks unmade.

You could do a photo of the side of your garden where you plan to expand (so we can advice Wink )

BashStreetKid · 06/01/2018 10:50

But even if you do buy the land, how would that help your predicament? Presumably you'd need to fence the land to prevent the neighbours from parking there so wouldn't the fence still be an obstruction to you exiting your driveway??

Penguin bollards would be OP's friends. Or even ordinary bollards. She can take them down when she needs to go out or into her drive but leave them up the rest of the time.

Divaroses26 · 06/01/2018 10:51

No further images will be provided - sorry!

I’m going to investigate penguin bollards x

Search for the cars on autotrader and see if they’re all for sale then at least you’ll know if they’re running a business and maybe you can then do something to report them

nevereverafter · 06/01/2018 11:04

I'd try planning as they look like they might be running a business.

KitKat1985 · 06/01/2018 11:08

Can you start parking on the grass?

timeisnotaline · 06/01/2018 11:16

So you do actually need to cut over the verge yourself to park in your driveway? Ie fencing wouldn’t work. That’s not ideal. Who in a residential street thinks they can park 9 cars?!
