Frustrated with the multiple cars my neighbour has! (Title edited by MNHQ)

I am absolutely raging!

We live on a lovely little street which just so happens to be a dead end, we live right at the bottom of the street and there’s houses either side, the law of the land forever and a day has been the left hand side of the road is left clear whilst vehicles park on the right hand side of the road (outside their houses!).

A new family moved into a house half way down the street on the right hand side, and own 9 vehicles - yes that’s right 9 vehicles for just him and his wife!!

Now, this is where the problem starts...next to my property is a small area of unused land, where these lovely folk seem to park 4/5 of their 9 vehicles causing myself and OH not to be able to get our cars onto our drive as they park adjacent to our driveway.

We’ve tried various different ways to resolve the problem, we’ve spoken to them (they didn’t take a blind bit of notice!), I phoned the police as 2/4 vehicles are actually declared SORN so shouldn’t be there but as the land is owned by LA it’s not deemed as being a public highway so there was nothing they could do, I’ve phoned DVLA & reported it that way, I’ve spoken to the LA that own the land to see if they have permission to be parking the SORN vehicles on their land and to be honest I don’t seem to be getting anywhere fast!

Besides taking the matter into our own hands I really don’t know what else we can do? I’m so fed up! I’m beginning to hate living here & to be honest I just want to be able to put our vehicles on our double driveway - surely that’s not too much to ask?

Sorry for such a long whinge post but it’s just really getting me down! Please please please let me know if you have ANY suggestions as to how I can rectify this problem! I’m at the end of my tether!

I don’t know how to, but if you wish to make that request then please feel free Wink

Ah I can’t be bothered to do a diagram too, I’ll be honest!

Bottom line is it is causing an issue!

I’ll try and doodle on another pic!

bluedog you just need to click the Hide button at the bottom of the thread.

c3pu · 06/01/2018 10:02

Don't petrol bomb them ffs.

A disposable barbeque under the engine bay is much cheaper and draws less attention Grin

Divaroses26 · 06/01/2018 10:02

Ok my drive is red, parking is taking place in all yellow areas as well as where I showed you in the other image which is slightly to the right of this one.

So do you have to drive onto that
Verge to get access to your drive? I don’t quite understand.

Tippz · 06/01/2018 10:04

Good idea to try and buy the piece of land. Don't be surprised if they still park there though!!!

Maybe you could fence it off.

I have seen this kind of thing before. I reckon they are probably buying old cars, doing them up a bit, and selling them. There is no reason on earth for 2 people to have 9 cars for 'personal use.'

Maybe alert the council and trading standards on Monday.

Probably a good idea to get MNHQ to amend the title too. I am not offended but I think it could be offensive to some.

Divaroses26 · 06/01/2018 10:04

No but the vehicles park half on the verge half off the verge (a bit on the road!) so it makes it impossible

If u need to drive onto thst patch of land to get on your drive then boulders would stop u too!How frustrating for u. Bloody rude people who needs bloody 9 cars anyway

Divaroses26 · 06/01/2018 10:08

I know! Frustrating more than anything. Just a little common courtesy would help!

Added to your difficulty in parking and accessing your cars on your drive. They're being entitled twats. Why should they have sole use of the land unless they pay rent for it. I understand your angst OP.

Land owned by LA is surely public land similar to a road? I'd discuss again with DVLA.

Divaroses26 · 06/01/2018 10:10

Spoke with DVLA who unfortunately can’t act on private land as they don’t want a court case against them which would bring the agency into disrepute. Shocking eh?

OP posts:
Divaroses26 · 06/01/2018 10:10

I want to buy that land now, not that it would be any use to us besides allowing us to use our driveway!

MumW · 06/01/2018 10:11

Some people are just so bloody inconsiderate and entitled.

Only thing I can think of is wait until they block your drive and then suddenly need to use your drive in the early hours and knock on their door and ask them to move, every hour on the hour. Bit of a pain for you though.

Will the police not even come out when the cars actual obstruct your access?

Navegante · 06/01/2018 10:13

But even if you do buy the land, how would that help your predicament? Presumably you'd need to fence the land to prevent the neighbours from parking there so wouldn't the fence still be an obstruction to you exiting your driveway??

Divaroses26 · 06/01/2018 10:13

They will come out, but suggest we speak to the bloke not them as they don’t want to get involved in a civil dispute.

DH is obv annoyed with the situ too; and you know how men can be, I wouldn’t want DH to end up in a scrap with the bloke cos of it. DH is not violent but of course we don’t know how the other bloke will react.

Nav - fair point!

OP posts:
MsHarry · 06/01/2018 10:14

What are the cars for if only 2 of them? Are they commercial vehicles? Are there any rules about where they are parked?

I feel for you OP but be careful about neighbourly disputes. When you move you have to state if you've had any disputes. My DF said no when he had a similar issue with a neighbour. The neighbour found out and told the new owner who sued him for £2000 20 yrs ago.

MoorMummy · 06/01/2018 10:15

No advice but I’d be bloody raging, are they buying and selling bangers? In which case that would be running a business which they probably aren’t allowed to do.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 06/01/2018 10:17

You need to try the more subtle less damaging methods.
If they insist on parking on the verge /grass ( its not usually alllowed but I guess if its wasteland no-one will bother) can you flood the ground to make an impressive boggy area to give them wheel spin? They'll have a blighter of a job getting off the grass and it might make them think again.
Get your hosepipe out , water won't harm anything.

Or the BirdSeed on the Roof effort. Toss a box of 'Swoop@ onto the roof at night and theyll have all the birds flocking and shitting on the windscreen, that they'll have to clean up.

KERALA1 · 06/01/2018 10:17

Invest in a yoga mindfulness DVD and attempt to not be a person that gets upset over parked cars.

My old neighbours were drug dealers who had loud fights in the street, undesirables hanging around out side and loud gangsta rap at odd hours. Oh and a Staffordshire terrier protection dog that leapt fence and shat in our garden. A few parked cars would be heaven.

Divaroses26 · 06/01/2018 10:19

I don’t know to be honest ladies (presuming we are all ladies in this thread!)

However, you’ve just given DH an ingenious idea there’s a small bit of land at the side of our house too, he’s going to contact LA Monday and see if we can buy/rent the land from them and then in turn widen our driveway & hopefully prevent them parking directly outside. DH is confident the LA will allow this as they don’t want illicit behaviour going on on their land!

OP posts:
Emilybrontescorsett · 06/01/2018 10:20

I think boulders on the edge of the verge.
Wait until they have moved their cars off then massive boulders at the edge of the grass making sure you can still access your drive.
If the council and police are allowing them to park there then they surely cannot stop you using land either.
Then enquire about buying the land although after putting solid heavy boulders on there you might not need to.
Some people are entitled twats and not considerate at all.

Divaroses26 · 06/01/2018 10:21

Someone did suggest placing faeces under the door handles so they also have their hands in shit, but, isn’t this criminal damage? X

rothbury · 06/01/2018 10:22

I think we need a diagram of how the purchase of the land will help Grin
