To be annoyed I didn't get an Anya Hindmarsh bag?

Or more specifically to be annoyed at the people who did?

I always do my weekly Sainsburys shop on a Tuesday or Wednesday morning, shop is always pretty empty. I live on North Coast of N Ireland, not exactly fashion/latest trends hotspot, so I assumed very few people up here would know about it, and arrived at the shop at 8.

I didn't get one, because some people had been outside the shop since 1 this morning! Most arrived around 6, and had I been there 10/15 minutes earlier I probably would have been one of the last to get one, as only a couple of people in front of me didn't get one.

What made me really annoyed was the women who had got them talking openly about selling them on ebay, and the fact that some of them don't even normally shop in Sainsburys (according to staff, who said they recognised about half of the people who got them).

Sorry for the rant, I think I probably am being unreasonable to be annoyed, but it doesn't seem fair! I wanted one to use it, I always shop there!

Goingfor3, thats probably to disguise them so nobody tries to steal it!

goingfor3 · 25/04/2007 10:57

I think it's so they don't get damaged before they put them on ebay!

chocolattegirl · 25/04/2007 10:57

I still use the cloth 'Bookstart' bag my dd got. Six years later and it's still going strong . I can't believe people actually get up early to get these things specially. But then I hate getting up early .

powder28 · 25/04/2007 10:58

Yes that too!

LazyLineJobsworth · 25/04/2007 11:06

Right, I want a reusable bag that is not made of plastic that is about the same size as a bag for life. I have looked at the recommendations on the other pages but a lot of them seem too small for my shopping. anyone?

chocolattegirl · 25/04/2007 11:08

Get a magazine that is giving away a fashion shopper. Or Claire's accessories are selling those plastic pop-together shoppers that were trendy 20 years ago .

goingfor3 · 25/04/2007 11:09

I like my turtle_bag they are strong and fit alot in them.

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 25/04/2007 11:11

I admit I had wanted one of these bags......before I realised I was just buying into that 'Must...have...this...now' mentality.

Budababe, I agree, those big floppy French-style baskets are lovely and much more beautiful. I like Littlelapin's link to the Mumsnet bags, too. Honestly, there are bags-a-plenty all over the place. Why would you want one so instantly recognisable, anyway. What does it say? "Oooh. I bought a lovely bag at the supermarket for a fiver." It's only because it's a 'designer' that people are clamouring. Emperor's new clothes, I agree.

BTW, must have taken her ages to 'design'

Yes, but will i get £200 for it on ebay LL?

Chocolateface · 25/04/2007 11:40

DS's school is next to Sinsburys, so I thought it wuld be so easy to get one. ( I don't think anyone's heard of Anya Hindmarsh 'round here) then DS played up and wouldn't go into shcool and I had a long chat with the head and his teacher. KIDS!

Budababe · 25/04/2007 11:58

Hey littlelabpin - love that site! Just ordered a LDC tote!!

thehairybabysmum · 25/04/2007 11:59

what about this one
ebay

made me smile

LazyLineJobsworth · 25/04/2007 12:03

I think I might have to get a turtle bag.

powder28 · 25/04/2007 12:05

How do you do those links?! I tried once and failed!

AitchTwoOh · 25/04/2007 12:05

the jute ones from sainsbos are really good, i think. they're massive. apart from teh hindmarsh one being small is it not also a teeny bit naff?

i heard that the slogan was going to be 'i'm not a plastic bag but i am something that my owner either queued for or paid £200 for on ebay, which must make them a wee bit arseholish, non?' but they ran out of space cos the bag is so uselessly teensy.

LazyLineJobsworth · 25/04/2007 12:06

this

Powder you use the bit above, and put your link between the { and the . Then you write what you want people to say where it says "this".

try previewing first.

LazyLineJobsworth · 25/04/2007 12:07

oh bum!!

\linky-link{http://news.bbc.co.uk\this}

instead of linky-link it should just say link.

AitchTwoOh · 25/04/2007 12:08

princessmel · 25/04/2007 12:10

Haven't read whole thread.

My dh queued up and got one for me

I told him the shop opened at 7 so he got there at 10 to 7. It did open at 7 but you get get a ticket for the bags till 8. Oooops. He stayed there though and was no 61 in queue. They had 90 bags. Lots of ebay sellers in queue.

Went to our other sainsburys with all the kids , who'd I'd got ready super early just in case, to see if I could get one for my sister. They'd sold out by 8.10am!!

Some of the people waiting with dh had been there since 4.30am. He said he felt so silly standing waiting for a bag. But I love him for it!!!

princessmel · 25/04/2007 12:12

Hattrick I use the bookstart one too. For my supermarket shopping along with the orange ones sainsburys sell that do up with a popper.

AitchTwoOh · 25/04/2007 12:13

ah well don't read my recent posts then, princessmel.

electra · 25/04/2007 12:14

Dh and I always laugh whenever we see that woman who was buying armfuls of "Candle in the Wind" cds (after Princess Diana died) with a glazed expression on her face as if she had been programmed to

hermykne · 25/04/2007 12:16

got mine at 8.03 this morn (in newry PercyPig!)
and in the queue infront of me
were 3 men - the first in the queue i add!! - one on a walking stick aged 65, the next about 6ft2 wearing cowboy boots and aged 60 and another old looking man dowdy would be the word if it was a woman,
very odd mix
then a mother nad daughter (in her uniform!),
another lady with god awful flip flop type shoes - how could she be a style afficionado or maybe her slant was the reuse aspect
and me - total style guru
and then another girl - style queen
and a very funny man cracking us up with his remarks, buying for his wife.

only 30 in our store

in ireland there is a plastic bag levy in all shops if you dont have your own bag
its worked very sucessfully to reduce the waste of plastic rubbbish and is AH not prempting the british government imposing such a levy but trying to highlight a waste that so many people are guilty of by making it trendy to be seen with her bag and maybe others will follow suit and perhaps end this ridiculous "designer bag" complex people have.

Jacanne · 25/04/2007 12:16

I like these re-usuable bags because you can fit them into a handbag and then pull them out when you need them - they're also made out of parachute silk so they are really strong.
