To be annoyed I didn't get an Anya Hindmarsh bag?

Or more specifically to be annoyed at the people who did?

I always do my weekly Sainsburys shop on a Tuesday or Wednesday morning, shop is always pretty empty. I live on North Coast of N Ireland, not exactly fashion/latest trends hotspot, so I assumed very few people up here would know about it, and arrived at the shop at 8.

I didn't get one, because some people had been outside the shop since 1 this morning! Most arrived around 6, and had I been there 10/15 minutes earlier I probably would have been one of the last to get one, as only a couple of people in front of me didn't get one.

What made me really annoyed was the women who had got them talking openly about selling them on ebay, and the fact that some of them don't even normally shop in Sainsburys (according to staff, who said they recognised about half of the people who got them).

Sorry for the rant, I think I probably am being unreasonable to be annoyed, but it doesn't seem fair! I wanted one to use it, I always shop there!

What is this bag? I have never heard of it. I want one!

TheShopaholic · 25/04/2007 09:07

I didn't get one either despite arriving 15 minutes early. Lost out by only a couple of people . I'm a regular Sainsbury's customer too.....

Made of cotton, says 'I am not a plastic bag', is perfect size for carrying a few bits of shopping or as a big bag/change bag. They were £5 in Sainsburys, but sell for £150 or moare on ebay

Are they selling in every sainsburys?

percypig · 25/04/2007 09:11

Just hear Anya Hindmarsh being interviewed on 5 live, she said they underestimated demand, and although more have been made, they are already lined up for the American market (where they're being launched in June) then Japan etc.

Hope more do come out here, I'm not that into fashion, but I do like reusing bags/having biggish bags that actually look nice, rather than something my granny would use.

It's only a bag.

Didn't get one either, got there at 7.30 about 100 people in the queue already didn't even get out of the car.

Think i'll just wait till they come down in price on ebay, but your not at all unreasonable i'm feeling annoyed that most of the people who got one just wanted to make money on ebay.

Sour grapes I know!

oliveoil · 25/04/2007 09:18

I have only one thing to say on the subject:

Emperor's New Clothes

ooooooh, it's limited edition, I must therefore have one, lemme get up at 3am purlease

Yes Expat, expect they're all sold out by now everywhere. I like reusing bags too so wanted it for that purpose as well as being a nice bag. Wouldn't give the ebay sellers the pleasure of paying over the odds as it was being sold for charity....

oliveoil · 25/04/2007 09:19

Superdrug were selling ones for a fiver

EVERYONE SELLS THESE SORTS OF BAGS!!!

Just because 'someone' says you 'need' this particular one, everyone goes maaaaaaad

mad I tell you

maveta · 25/04/2007 09:20

It is just a cheap bag. I shop with the cloth bags that Topshop put your clothes in, they´re quite pretty, free and do the same thing.

noddyholder · 25/04/2007 09:20

Ridiculous!Buy a normal cloth shopping bad from anywhere and give the rest of the money to charity!

oliveoil · 25/04/2007 09:21

yes maveta, TS have done them for eons!

honestly!

!!!

percypig · 25/04/2007 09:22

Topshop here uses plastic bags. I don't usually jump on the bandwagon about things, and I know it's only a bag, but I did want one, genuinely like them, and feel annoyed that so many people are selling them on ebay

people are selling them on ebay as people are like sheep and have been brainwashed into thinking they will be with the IN CROWD if they pay £200 for a £5 bag

Do TS sell theirs online?

TheShopaholic · 25/04/2007 09:23

Did buy a jute one though when I did my shopping

noddyholder · 25/04/2007 09:24

But if you truly believed in the ethos behind them you would use any ither cloth/re-usable bag.So it is purely a fashion thing and not environmental at all.People are such sheep the very fact that everyone wants/has one makes them common now! There will be more designers jumping on the bandwagon at other supermarkets soon so don't worry you will get one

Budababe · 25/04/2007 09:25

I cannot believe the hype and hysteria over these. And anyone who pays over the odds on Ebay deserves their head testing. It's only a bloody gimmick.

Here in Budapest most of the supermarkets charge for carrier bags (except bloody Tesco) and most people either just keep a stock of various bags in their car or use one of those lovely French style straw baskets for a few bits.

electra · 25/04/2007 09:26

Oliveoil - how right you are. Anyone willing to pay £200 for a boring looking material bag is quite mad, imho.

percypig · 25/04/2007 09:27

I'm not going to buy one on ebay, that is mad. There are honestly very few places here to buy cloth bags, especially for £5.
