I am ill. I needed Lucozade.

My beautiful, darling child trekked off to the local Tesco to get me some and...

...the fuckers have changed it. It tastes weird. Can't put my finger on it, but it's weird.

It's Winter. People are unwell. They NEED their Lucozade.

Why is everything changing? Can't we have ONE THING??

Fluffyears · 03/01/2018 22:35

justified it’s happening next month

Tedster77 · 03/01/2018 22:36

Totally agree with the poster saying they’ve alienated their actual market - no kids actually drink this stuff, they’re all about Monster and Relentless.

Hopefully the idiots will realise this and change it back (unlikely but I can dream)

GingerbreadMa · 03/01/2018 22:36

Asda used to do an own brand version that tasted like proper old lucozade.
I hope they havent fucked that up too

Emmafoz · 03/01/2018 22:37

Pop a couple of glucotabs instead.... dd is also type 1 and we were told of this a while back. Shame, lucozade was magic 😆

TroysMammy · 03/01/2018 22:37

You need hot Ribena when you're ill not shitty Lucozade. Proper Ribena not the low sugar or strawberry flavoured crap. In a special cup just for the purpose, three times a day.

TrinitySquirrel · 03/01/2018 22:39

@troysmammy I feel sorry for Troy, frankly.

Poor sod. No lucozade and a bright purple top lip.

Subtleconstraints · 03/01/2018 22:41

I'm so old I remember lying in bed with flu as a child peeling the orange crinkly wrapping off the old glass bottles ... .

TroysMammy · 03/01/2018 22:42

Trinity Troy was my cat. When he was ill he preferred lik-e-lix. Grin

whiteroseredrose · 03/01/2018 22:43

Not just Lucosade. Sprite and 7 Up now have fake sweeteners too.

geekone · 03/01/2018 22:45

Going to have to be Curries Red Kola then when I am ill

drivingmisspotty · 03/01/2018 22:45

I agree, ribena all the way for me (it has vitamin c so scientifically proven to help a cold!) How long before they mess with that too though? I have already had the terrible disaster of buying Tooth Kind by mistake.

I'm being melodramatic but actually this is another of those 'this is why we can't have nice things'. My diet and weight are fine but sometimes I want a treat and when I want a treat I want it to have real sugar and/or butter in it. Otherwise what is the point? I am happy to pay the sugar tax in order to have my treat btw. (I spot a gap in the market for sugar pushers).

JudgeTinder · 03/01/2018 22:49

@cherrycola2004 thank you! That’s really helpful. I’ll tell him tomorrow Smile He has a very physical job so relies on these drinks!

Missingstreetlife · 03/01/2018 22:50

Sweeteners are not healthy either grrr

TheDevilMadeMeDoIt · 03/01/2018 22:51

Damn the sugar tax. I hate the taste of artificial sweeteners, and of stevia (if they use stevia, they can legitimately put 'no artificial ingredients' on the label).

I bought a bottle of Orangina the other day, first sip and I knew they'd put sweeteners in it.

I'll pay the extra to cover the sugar tax, honest - just give me the chance.

JudgeTinder · 03/01/2018 22:51

@RagamuffinAndFidget thank you! I’ll pass that on too. Shame as he’d been using it for years and it’s always been a staple in this house!

numbereightyone · 03/01/2018 22:52

It was perfectly OK when Lucozade came in the glass bottle wrapped in orange cellophane which we drank when we were ill. Then the marketers got to work and used sportsmen to tell us it would improve out 'performance.' Now, children are drinking a couple of bottles a day, when water would be much better for them.

JudgeTinder · 03/01/2018 22:53

@Gingernaut oh, that makes sense now! I had the GD test a couple of weeks ago and had been told I would be given Lucozade and then when it clearly wasn’t I did wonder why!

Fluffyears · 03/01/2018 22:54

@geekone yep me too, are you from the coastal shire? Seems to be one ignorant the only place so that know the magic of curries red kola!

JudgeTinder · 03/01/2018 22:54

@Emmafoz he has glucogel prescribed by the doctor but drinks always seem to work so much faster! Oh well, I’ll look out for supermarket own brands Smile

SaltySeaBird · 03/01/2018 22:55

My go to for glucose (diabetic) but also when I’m ill. Really frustrating change which means I’ll never have it again as I avoid sweeteners

JudgeTinder · 03/01/2018 22:55

@Missingstreetlife exactly! I’ve read not very encouraging things about aspartame Blush

turbohamster · 03/01/2018 22:57

Have 7up changed recently? It was sweetener free fairly recently.

Sweeteners give me ibs type symptoms and it's getting harder and harder to find drinks without. I had to make a special trip to Waitrose to get lemonade without sweetener for Christmas

Bunchofdaffodils · 03/01/2018 22:57

We always used to stock lucosade on the wards in hospital in case of hypos, but about six months ago it was all replaced with little vials of ‘glucojuice’ or similar. It’s such a shame we can’t be trusted to make our own choices like adults anymore.

nooka · 03/01/2018 22:58

We but Lucozade when we visit the UK as one of our English treats (we live overseas) until I found that I could get it imported from Hong Kong. dh was so happy when I found it. Reminded him of being looked after by his mum when he was little. One less thing to get when we visit home :( My local supermarket has a Tesco bit in it and I bought some of their Jamaican ginger beer for a Christmas treat. It was absolutely disgusting, so sweet! I don't think it was aspartamine but all the artificial sweeteners taste horrible to me.

viques · 03/01/2018 23:00

In the olden days you knew you were ill if your mum bought you lucozade. I hated the taste, still do, but it was good to know you were properly poorly. And the orange film on the bottle was mildly amusing to play with, and IMO tasted better than the drink.
