To be horrified at how I look

theavianexecutioner · 02/01/2018 17:52

Just asked my mum to take a pic of me from the back and side, for bra measuring.
Horrified. I've been in SW on and off for a few years, need to go back. I've already decided I'm having a dry january and it needs to continue. I'm 43 in May and want to feel and look content.

I got in the scales. I'm the heaviest Iv ever been - 3st ish over maximum acceptable weight.

I'm doing NO added Sugar January and no processed foods as Iv a stupidly sweet tooth and sugar habit.

Decided not to join any slimming class as iv never kept weight off so starting with the no sugar and processed foods and try to do 20 mins of activity a day.

KarmaStar · 02/01/2018 19:57

Me too!Christmas photos...ergh!just got back from first visit to the gym(surrounded by teeny tiny girls).....slumped on sofa and I'm never moving again!

Zaphodsotherhead · 02/01/2018 19:58

See, I gave up drinking a year ago (not completely, but was drinking 1/2 a bottle of wine once or twice a week, now just have a glass maybe once every three months). It has made no difference whatsoever. I thought, naively, that losing those calories might let me drop a couple of pounds, here and there.

Has it fuck. But good luck to all you dry Januaryers!

MrsGrindah · 02/01/2018 20:00

Oh can I join in?! I am being plagued by a mysterious fat woman who jumps in front of me in photos! She wears my clothes and does her hair like me too....it can’t possibly be me though can it?

I was so smug too..lost 3 stone about 5 years ago ..it’s found me again. I can’t bear the hard slog but it’s my own bloody fault

Veronicat · 02/01/2018 20:01

Me too. I saw a photo of myself at the Christmas party. I look like a sausage. I'm starting back at the gym tomorrow and am on day 7 of not drinking. I'm not sure I'm ready to give up sugar yet though.

chemicalkevsmoped · 02/01/2018 20:08

I'm back on the wagon too after seeing my big fat moon face in numerous photos. I find that exercise keeps me toned but doesn't budge the weight - it's all about the diet for me.

PragmaticWench · 02/01/2018 20:09

I saw a photo of myself last spring at a black-tie event, I looked horrific. It jolted me to finally do something about the weight. I've lost over two stone since by following the LCHF way if eating and I feel so much better!

It's made me wake up to what I was doing to my body. I have no wish to inflict fat-related issues on my children if I develop diabetes/cancer etc and I want them to see a healthy relationship with food and exercise. Unlike my Mother showed me.

MammaAgata · 02/01/2018 20:14

@zaphosotherhead, see I think your bottle of wine wouldn’t make a great deal of difference overall. It’s about 500-600 cals. They say you need to ditch 3500 cals a week to lose a lb. Dry January should make a difference I hope to me that drinks far more than that.. I’m 2 (3 to be really happy) overweight, am totally horrified by how much bigger I’ve got over the last 5 years after being relatively slim ish for most of my life.. joining you ladies. But then again I say this every few months and nothing ever changes...

THIS!!! Are you me?

Let's lose the weight! :)

CeciliaBartolli · 02/01/2018 20:26

Flubber dubber tummy. Oh I hates it!

travailtotravel · 02/01/2018 20:31

I'm doing vegan January to reset my eating.

MrsEl · 02/01/2018 20:32

I'm with you OP- I can't believe I've let myself get to this size. I was always been slim(ish) before I had my DS and always managed to loose weight when my trousers started to feel tight. I just can't seem to shift the weight this time! Today is the first day of being healthy- I feel like I should be a size 8 by now Grin.

flocktheclock · 02/01/2018 20:32

I'm joining you.
Some of the team at work were showing photos of our Christmas party.
I thought I looked slim and sophisticated in my flattering wrap dress and very supportive underwear.
My tummy was all in rolls and I look like I had bruises under my eyes.
You lied Spanx and Bobbi Brown.

aurorie11 · 02/01/2018 20:34

I'm in. Lost 3 stone approx 12-15 months ago, 2 have gone back on. It needs to go again and more besides.
Bye to bread, processed sugar. Hello to portion control, porridge and soup

anothersuitcase · 02/01/2018 20:38

I have lost weight and I thought it would make me happy, but I accidentally hit the face time button on my phone yesterday and I actually grimaced, my face was so droopy and old, broken veins, open pores and so so many lines! I'm 42 and it was so different from how I think my face looks in my head!

theavianexecutioner · 02/01/2018 20:39

So I've started meal planning and promised myself no booze, only one at weekends, and keeping a log of everything that goes in my mouth (well, not everything 😜)
I'm nearly 43 and I want to feel happy and fabulous!

MrsGrindah · 02/01/2018 20:42

Real we know we can do it at least! Grin

My downfall was stopping going on the scales regularly..I think I slipped into denialThat “ go by the fit of your clothes “ thing is too unreliable... jeans stretch!,

ShoesHaveSouls · 02/01/2018 20:44

I think a lot of it is portion control for me - plus emotional/boredom eating.

I was great before I had dc - but I found pregnancy and bf'ing just made me ravenous. Plus gave me an excuse to be piggy. I think my stomach has stretched, and my appetite is just bigger now.

I look at my DC (who are all skinny, as I was when I was younger) and they eat very small portions. They're full very quickly, and then they lose interest in the food. Even if it's cake. I can pig out on huge amounts of sugary stuff.

So for me - it's smaller meals. Less booze (it just doesn't help, does it?) Healthier meals with lots of veg. Getting early nights in (I'm constantly knackered, and often stay up later than I should. Being tired = being more hungry/craving sugar. Staying up late = more likely to snack before bed).

Long dog walks, dance, yoga - which I do already - should help.

Phew.

Buglife · 02/01/2018 20:48

I’m also looking huge, however I’m also 11 weeks pregnant so I can’t really do much about it until after July. I’m annoyed I was a couple sizes overweight when I got pregnant as I worry I’ll feel very uncomfortable and far too heavy when I’m further along with a bump. Also I’ve been revolted by most foods except carbs so I’ve been mainly eating them so I’m puffy faced. However, plus points are, with my first child I was all bump and stayed the same size on legs and arms etc. Also I only put two stone on (although I was very sick for a lot of it, I’m not so bad this time). I want to be able to eat well, eat properly, during this pregnancy but not get fatter beyond what’s expected! And then post birth eat properly for breast feeding but maybe I’ll do slimming world as you can tailor that for Breast feeding as well. This is my last baby for sure so I want to keep healthy whilst I’m pregnant, and then get myself
To the size I want to be for the rest of my life. Still got loads of size 12 clothes I’ve not worn since before DS :(

cloudyweewee · 02/01/2018 20:52

I look absolutely dreadful. I am about 6 stone overweight and realised during Mass that I have the same hairstyle as the 60+ year old priest (I am 50). I look like a blimp. When i was on holiday in the Summer, a woman selling tickets for the boat trip we were going on asked if i was over 60 because i would get a £1 discount. In the Indian takeaway the other evening, the man behind the counter said "Good evening sir". Seriously!! Actually, now that I have written that down I feel seriously depressed!!

Casmama · 02/01/2018 20:54

Me too. I look about 6 months pregnant in a Christmas Day video!
I’ve been feeling it for a while though so asked for the 5:2 diet book for Christmas, planning a dry January and spent about £60 on scales which told me my body fat is 44% ShockBlush

Linzilou1985 · 02/01/2018 21:02

Yes! I hate how my face looks in pictures, but I don't even see that in the mirror!

I have a lot of weight to lose, I'm going back to slimming world tomorrow. I'm a final year student nurse and hope to try for another baby at the end of this year. I know the dangers of being so overweight! It's like I hate myself Confused

Wetdogloveshubert · 02/01/2018 21:03

Love the hunger scale document, thanks @DontDriveLikeATwat I'm going to give that a try. I've started no sugar for January to see if I can use that to rid myself of the 10am, 1pm, 3pm, 7pm snack habit (lordy when I put it like that it's really horrendous). I am at least 3st overweight and hate it for the role model I've failed to be with my dd.

Let's get moving...

halfwitpicker · 02/01/2018 21:03

My problem is if I lose weight it comes off my face.

^

See, with me its the last place to come off.

I know if I lose the weight my face will look so much better. I couldn't really care if I'm a 14/16 but my face looks awful at that size, I balloon and my features are swamped.

I honestly look 10 years younger when my face is thinner.

halfwitpicker · 02/01/2018 21:04

If anyone's interested there's a low carb Bootcamp starting 8th January.

I'll see you there.
