To be horrified at how I look

Just asked my mum to take a pic of me from the back and side, for bra measuring.
Horrified. I've been in SW on and off for a few years, need to go back. I've already decided I'm having a dry january and it needs to continue. I'm 43 in May and want to feel and look content.

So glad I’ve found my tribe. What is it with the massive boobs? Mine were never small but two kids, breastfeeding and lots of wine and cheese has seen me get to 38H

wizzler · 05/01/2018 13:50

Kateandme,I am generally a happy person, with 2 lovely DC. However I am absolutely the right body type to get Type 2 Diabetes and I need to sort that out.

I identified with the OP because I too had seen a photo which woke me up to how overweight I now am. I am not a healthy weight.

Also.. I love to play tennis, but my weight hampers me, and I am now struggling with knee and ankle pain as a result.,

I find other posting about their experiences and sharing their ups and downs more helpful then just "learn to love yourself more"

Alittlebitofthis · 05/01/2018 13:54

I'm in too! I weighed myself this morning g and I'm over 14 stone! Ww works but I'm not sticking to it so thought I'd try myself. My size 16 jeans are way too tight now.
This morning I had Greek yogurt with fruit and a bit of honey to sweeten it. For lunch rye bread with tuna mayonnaise and s tangerine.
I'm getting back into my running and it was tough to do the 3 miles yesterday. Less than a year ago I ran the London marathon at the same pace as yesterday Sad.

Alittlebitofthis · 05/01/2018 13:54

I have a smart tv so hoping to do some fitness dvds from YouTube.

CaveMum · 05/01/2018 15:30

The Joe Wicks workouts on YouTube are supposed to be good.

I know I’m not technically overweight, I’m 5ft6 and 11st, but I have been feeling bad about the way I look and feel since DS was born 9 months ago (also have a DD almost 4). Next to nothing in my wardrobe fits and I feel like I’ve lost my identity. I’m working on being kind to myself and doing something for “me” (haircut, nails done, etc) once a month so I can feel a bit more like CaveMum again rather than just “Mummy”.

liz70 · 05/01/2018 17:20

I keep thinking I should do exercise videos but they're so boring. So I'm doing jogging on the spot on my mini trampoline, holding hand weights, while watching Wolf Hall on iPlayer. Only managed 20 minutes, but it's a start, I guess.

MrsGrindah · 05/01/2018 19:15

Felt low about things today...day 5 of really trying but so hard. Feel really bloated and sluggish.Stayed off the booze though!

everyonesgotanopinion · 05/01/2018 20:06

Flap doodles, there's a special offer coupon for SW in woman or Bella or woman's own - I can't remember which sorry! But it takes it down to £4.95 to join with the folder/book/food diaries etc. I don't find it hard at all, it's pretty straightforward and I like the lack of measuring stuff and 'free' foods so there's never an excuse for being hungry (which I hate). I weighed in today and lost 2lbs which tbh is what I'd put on over Christmas so happy to leave that behind. Also doing DJ and that's hard - really missing a glass of wine but my skin was looking awful and I was fed up with waking up feeling rough.

KhalliWali · 05/01/2018 21:04

Exercise doesn’t really make you lose weight, it just helps to tone you up and make you feel better. It’s 80% food & 20% exercise.

“You can’t outtrain a bad diet.”

Casmama · 05/01/2018 21:49

I often wonder why people come on to a thread to tell others how to post-surely if a thread suits you post on it and if not find a different one? As for complaining on behalf of a hypothetical third party and how they may or may not feel . .Confused

I am feeling a bit better about having made the decision to do something. Have lost 3lbs this week with 3 fast days- could probably have been better if I wasn’t eating rubbish in between but hey-ho Grin

ThePlatypusAlwaysTriumphs · 05/01/2018 21:57

Well, I bit the bullet yesterday and did my first combat class in 2 years ( in the safety of my garage gym!), Then did another 30 min class with dd2 (12). Felt great afterwards!! This morning, could hardly get out of bed!!
Persuaded dd1(14) to do a Sh'zam class with me tonight, I had a blast, got very hot and sweaty, but dd declared it "cringy" ! Oh well!
I know exercise isn't going to skate the day off me without diet, but it makes me feel so much better and gives me more motivation to eat less crap.

ThePlatypusAlwaysTriumphs · 05/01/2018 21:57

*skite the fat!

GottadoitGottadoit · 05/01/2018 23:50

Right, am going to do yoga now, so that it still counts as 'today'!

ReallyConvolutedCareerHistory · 06/01/2018 00:25

I've been low carbing but probably eating too much protein. I should reign that in. Anyway I promised myself I will not weigh everyday.

Is weekly weighing a good plan? Or less often?

Casmama · 06/01/2018 00:29

A slimming world consultant once told me that they would ideally only weigh you once a month so you would see significant changes but most people don’t want to wait that long- plus they want people to come every week!
I am weighing myself every day and making a note of it once a week.

Capelin · 06/01/2018 05:47

I’m not weighing myself at all. I’ve found in the past that it leads to unhelpful behaviours, ie I step off the scales feeling either pleased or cross and immediately reward or comfort myself with food! Maybe I’ll take Casmama’s advice and do it once a month.

Basically I’m just trying to cut all the crap out of my diet, and feel good about what I eat. And presumably this will lead to weight loss rather than that being my main goal iyswim.

ReallyConvolutedCareerHistory · 06/01/2018 07:35

Capelin

Exactly. Maybe I should just weigh once a month too. I used to do it everyday but it really messed with my head.

Madonnasmum · 06/01/2018 09:02

I started on Jane plan yesterday. I have tried every diet going and generally fail after a few weeks. Hopefully committing to this programme will give me more longevity on the plan.
Had a wake up call with portion sizes! Seriously, I've been eating 3 times amount of food and still having far more snacks and treats.
The reason for my extra 2.10 stone has become rather apparent!

IrritatedUser1960 · 06/01/2018 09:03

try being 56, not only overweight but turkey neck and wrinkly inner thighs. I've given up looking in big mirrors Grin

MrsGloop · 06/01/2018 16:38

I started Whole30 on Tuesday; according to my scale this morning I’ve lost 7lbs already. I know that much of this is water, but frankly, I’ll take it how I can get it. The numbers on the scale do have an impact on me, try as I might to tell myself that they don’t matter too much.

waterfall0119 · 06/01/2018 17:19

Following this thread - I started back at SW day after Boxing Day and I was shocked to find out I had 3 stone 4 to lose!
4lb gone this week and 6 days into dry jan... I love the weekly weigh ins and awards etc, I find they spur me on so much more than if I was just weighing myself.

HeirToTheIronThrone · 07/01/2018 13:12

I’m in. For all those ‘just love yourself’ messages I just can’t when I look like this. I weighed over 14 stone on New Year’s Day. I have never been slim, but was a happy size 12 at about 11 stone and want to be back there again.

ReallyConvolutedCareerHistory · 07/01/2018 20:13

Hi everyone!!!

I did low carb all of last week but I think I need to step it up -- so starting this week I will weigh my food to make sure I am not going beyond portion sizes.

I would like to be a size 12 at my 40th (eeeeeek!) birthday on July. I'm currently an 18.

Madonnasmum · 12/01/2018 07:41

I've lost 5lb in my first week. I know weight loss is large in the first week but I'm pretty delighted with that as it's a great start.

PlummyBrummy · 12/01/2018 09:25

Well done Madonnasmum, that’s excellent! I started just before Christmas (knowing that I’d be about three times the size I am even now if I didn’t) and I’ve almost lost a stone. At least another 3.5 to go but I’m on my way. I’m also doing SW - if I don’t have the weekly reminder of a weigh in I very swiftly go off track...
