We moved to Leeds 3 years ago and I've honestly never felt so lonely. I need to meet people and get out of the house.

I work nights so it's hard but I need to do this!

Sooo tell me your hobbies so I can have some ideas! Please and thank you!

Boakboak · 31/12/2017 01:24

I make herb-based stuff e.g. Throat remedy, soap because allergic to SLS, lip balms etc (in my kitchen and for my own use only and NOT to replace but compliment conventional medicine). Other than that reading is my hobby. I go to book club and writing group.

Littlefrogletx · 31/12/2017 01:27

My uncle used to do the ship in bottle stuff. I just can't wrap my head round having the skill and patience

Stefoscope · 31/12/2017 01:32

Another south Leeds nocturnal worker lady here. Mostly gardening and long dog walks in the summer and old timer hobbies like cross stitch and knitting in the colder months. Also a rock girl at heart, who's partial to sampling some decent rela ale and always open to new friends to go out to gigs, Fuel etc.

Wisterical · 31/12/2017 01:33

I'm not too far from Horsforth! Just up the ring road in Alwoodley. I'm not sure if fitness is your thing but Bramley Breezers hold running on a Monday night for various levels of ability.
I'm a member of Village Gym and even just getting out of the house and seeing people is a nice change even if I haven't yet forged any friendships.
Hobbycraft at Crown Point (or maybe Guiseley is closer to you) run various workshops for different crafts to see if you get a feel for something you like.
There's a WI in Rodley where I used to live and the women are lovely as I used to serve them regularly when I owned the coffee shop that way.

Stolenchoccies · 31/12/2017 01:58

I need some too! Shamelessly placemarking for ideas if I get better from my mysterious bloody 2 month lomg illness

TooManyPaws · 31/12/2017 01:59

Knitting, crochet, sewing, embroidery. Pisses me off that so many knitting and crochet groups are during the day while I work otherwise I do it while watching TV. Both sides of my family were the sort where the women never sat with empty hands and I don't actually remember learning to either sew or knit because I was so young. Dad used to complain that he felt lazy as he was the only one not doing a craft while watching TV!

I had an absolutely fantastic two years where I went to a quilting and patchwork class, and I'm currently struggling to learn a new language at a class.

Join the Women's Institute! I know it has an old fashioned reputation, but it's a fantastic organisation. Every group is different, so whilst some are more traditional, there are gothic groups, groups who meet in pubs and groups who arrange lots of activities in the community. You can go along as a visitor to find the group you like before joining, and many meet during the day. Most of them have varied programmes for the monthly meetings including guest speakers, crafts and activities and maybe outings. Every group is a source of friendship and usually very good cake! I'm President of my local WI and I love it. I've met people I would never have come into contact with otherwise, and become friends with many of them. I've tried new crafts, read new books and learnt about things that I wouldn't have thought were interesting but actually turned out to be so. You can get involved as much or as little as you like so can just turn up for a natter and refreshments if that suits you, or join in with the national campaigns on things like the environment and issues affecting women. Most you, have fun! X

I’m a member of a photography club which meets weekly. Really nice group of people. I also ride regularly (a horse!!), and have recently joined a walking group.

Why don’t all you folks from the Leeds area arrange to meet up? An instant friendship group is right there on your doorsteps .......

c3pu · 31/12/2017 08:52

Home-brewing! Can be quite social if you find a Facebook group that has regular meets for recipe and booze swapping 😂

PorklessPie · 31/12/2017 09:33

Swimming and crochet. I'm also trying vegan baking....I'm getting nowhere.

Nicolamarlow1 · 31/12/2017 09:40

I do leatherwork, I make purses, keyrings etc and I love it. I have just discovered a leather warehouse in Keighley and plan to go there when they open again for New Year. So excited! Leatherwork is great in that there is so much to learn, and I love the fact that my items are so durable. They make great gifts too.

StepCatsmother · 31/12/2017 09:46

I moved to Leeds 2.5 years ago too (now in Hudd though) - I took up running & go to parkrun.
I've met a few people but I've found it hard to go from being someone's acquaintance to their friend. I think at 36, I've forgotten what to do!!
I still work in Leeds so I'm keeping an eye on what might be going on in the New Year Smile

Summer15coming · 31/12/2017 09:58

Salsa dancing is very social. The people tend to be really friendly and nice. If you've never danced before it's absolutely not a problem as salsa is accessible for dancers of all levels. You just find a beginners course at a local club and then go from there.

Summer15coming · 31/12/2017 10:00

Oh - and you don't need to take a partner (I know people sometimes think that you do)!

LazyDailyMailJournos · 31/12/2017 10:02

Horsforth is a lovely area. In terms of meeting people try the parkrun and also join the WI (yes really!).

TroysMammy · 31/12/2017 10:06

Card making
I have a dolls house 1/12 scale
I've done cross stitch in the past, still have all the gubbins but my eyes are crap.
I'm intending on sewing clothes.
Vegetable gardening.
Pissing about on Mumsnet. If I stopped doing this I could enjoy the above so much more.
