We moved to Leeds 3 years ago and I've honestly never felt so lonely. I need to meet people and get out of the house.

I work nights so it's hard but I need to do this!

Sooo tell me your hobbies so I can have some ideas! Please and thank you!

WI. Shop around to find a young trendy one. Saved me from being lonely. Have made some lovely friends.

homefromworklate · 30/12/2017 23:47

@christmastits that looks great, I love drinking wine but know very little about it, I normally pick it based on price and how pretty the label looks! Gutted it's north Leeds, bit of a trek for me, I'm in Woodlesford, south Leeds

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 30/12/2017 23:49

I was in your position a couple of years ago, although it's my DH who works nights.

I joined a roller derby team, and never looked back!

Aducknotallama · 30/12/2017 23:53

Gym, yoga, netball

Jellybean85 · 30/12/2017 23:54

Horsforth is lovely, the Leeds met campus in Headingley Run language classes and there are lots of sports groups near by.

I did my degree in horsforth, many years ago. It always seemed a really nice place to live when I was walking to & from the college and train station. You're right on the edge of the north York moors so you could do anything from landscape photography to walking and hill climbing.

My hobby is photography but I'm lazy so like to do still life stuff which means I don't have to leave the house or travel very far to be able to do it. I'm also trying my hand at portrait photography but am not very good yet.

dancing
amateur dramatics
amateur musical theatre
singing
piano
saxophone
reading (not that that will help you meet people!)

CraftyGal · 31/12/2017 00:38

I've been going to the gym for years and never made a friend although everyone I know seems to make friends at the gym. I go in, workout and get out. Clearly I'm very anti-social Confused

I need this thread thanks op! MY hobbies at the moment are modding a forum and running club (off/on cos I'm overweight and keep getting injured). In the new year, I'd like to join an Astronomy society/club, take some Itallian Cooking lessons (not sure how this will fair with losing weight lol), horse riding lessons and do some Line Dancing (looks easy and a lot of fun). Gonna keep my eye on this thread for new ideas too.

I'm not too far from you. How about British military fitness? They are at the park in Horsforth a few times a week. I'm starting again this week. I started tennis this year which I love.

TabbyTigger · 31/12/2017 00:52

I’m in London but (when I’m not heavily pregnant as I am now!!) I go to a weekly gymnastics class and 2 weekly yoga classes. I also go running with my friend two mornings a week, and I also have a book group that runs once a month. don’t think this counts but we go to church as a family every week at least once.

At home I play the piano and cello somewhat regularly, and the flute very occasionally, and I read an awful lot - aim to read 50 books a year, which I manage (though some are just short stories to compensate for the long ones that take a while or those in my third(? I am bilingual so maybe it’s just second) language!). I like to keep busy, in case that wasn’t obvious!!

TabbyTigger · 31/12/2017 00:53

Park runs are great for meeting people by the way, and there’s no need to be very active, some people at our local one just walk it and my 5 year old has started going along with DH and 13yo.

TooManyButtons · 31/12/2017 00:57

Trojans do you have any pictures of your doll houses? They sound amazing!

Maelstrop · 31/12/2017 01:03

I don't have any btw. Watching telly and eating cheese. I have spent hours on 'my hobby' this Christmas.

Overeating and pissing about on Mumsnet.

Omg, I have found my people. I justify it by saying I need to recharge as I won’t have another holiday until April. Blush

and walnut art. where i put a scene in half a walnut shell.

But how?!

I’ve never though of them as hobbies as such but I spend any free time I have reading, learning photoshop, going to a yoga class, going for walks in nature, and visiting historical and archaeological sites/NT places. Some of those things I do on my own, some with family/friends.

I have an allotment. It's my little oasis of peace, produces a really decent amount of food, and has brought me load of local friends. I'd recommend it to as anyone with a bit of time on their hands, but perhaps take on a small one first.

Parkrun! It's a weekly 5km on a Saturday morning in local parks all over the country and has a really friendly community. You don't have to be into running to join in - you can walk it if you like or you can volunteer to be a marshal or time keeper (an even better way to meet people) and a lot of the group go for coffee and cake afterwards :-)

Bumblina · 31/12/2017 01:13

I'm near Horsforth OP, don't know many people here either (moved from Lancs 2 years ago) I love Trattoria Il Forno!
I joined the gym and have met a couple of people from the classes I go to, and i did go to a couple of Meetups and keep in touch with 2 girls from that but they live in Bradford.
I'm tempted to join Parkrun but i can't do 5k yet, i've just started horse riding again and I'd also like to do something volunteer wise with Guide Dogs for the Blind as it's close by. But really I just want to meet people who like going for coffee/lunch as there's so many lovely cafes near me :D
