To think this is a perfectly fine meal?

My main meal of the day. I've had a cheese scone so far all day. Aunt just wandered past and made a comment on what I'm eating. Apparently it's greedy.

She's now sulking in the living room with my parents because I told her it wasn't greedy.

It's about 50g turkey, 50g cheese, five or six slices of beetroot and a tablespoon of pickle. Bread is about half an inch per slice.

Its all delicious and I'm really enjoying it too.

To think this is a perfectly fine meal?

That's nowt.

I've today had a fry up for breakfast, Pizza Express for lunch and a Chinese takeaway for dinner.

Me da piggy.

Zatsuma · 30/12/2017 20:49

Hmm and again, why is it so funny that it IS a big portion for some people? Why is it acceptable to laugh at people who eat less? Not everybody stuff themselves, and people should be free to eat what they bloody want. even beetroot, sorry OP

PhuntSox · 30/12/2017 20:54

She was rude, you were right to correct her.

Wishingandwaiting · 30/12/2017 20:56

Sorry if covered but is that butter or cheese on the bread?!

Chienrouge · 30/12/2017 21:00

Not everybody stuff themselves

That plate of food isn’t evidence of someone ‘stuffing themselves’

FoggieFishieCarpeDiem · 30/12/2017 21:05

The OP asked us to judge this meal / tell her whether we do indeed think that this is a perfectly fine meal.

Some say that it’s clearly not enough, some say that it is enough or even more than they’d have. Others think that the amount is fine but that the contents of the plate are the issue.

And every single one of these responses seems to upset someone...

Fair enough. But the OP did ask...

Purple

Absolutely. But it seemed (to me at least) like the OP also wanted to know whether she’s being U for thing that this is a perfect fine meal.

Well, yes. There’s kind of a clue in the thread title... Grin

MothertotheLordsofmisrule · 30/12/2017 21:19

That's a snack while you decide what to eat for dinner.

I recall my MIL raised eyebrows when she clocked that - yes I was going to scoff an entire pizza.

This is a woman who will eat half a jersey royal for lunch and declare she is stuffed for the rest of the day.

brizzledrizzle · 30/12/2017 21:29

It contains beetroot - purple food is not normal!

But yes, it's a fine meal and she's very rude.

FoggieFishieCarpeDiem · 30/12/2017 21:33

Yeah... I just thought that you were basically telling us to stop talking about whether the food was perfectly fine because the aunt’s reaction was unacceptable anyway.

(Oops, I probably misunderstood.)

QuestionableMouse · 30/12/2017 22:56

Wow, I didn't expect this to get so many replies.

I was mostly curious about what other people thought.

And some of you are clearly unreasonable. Purple food is the best. 😂

OrinocoDugong · 31/12/2017 05:37

Purple food is high in antioxidants and therefore very good for you.

Motoko · 31/12/2017 10:43

I used to love Junket. You used to be able to buy a packet of fruit flavoured tablets to make it. Think the brand was called Miss Muffet and it had a picture of Miss Muffet sitting on her tuffet, eating her curds and whey! My mum used to get them in Holland and Barrett, so not sure if they were made with animal or vegetarian rennet.

I think if someone has issues around food texture, they wouldn't like it though.

franktheskank · 31/12/2017 12:30

Do people really called pickled onions just pickle?

QuestionableMouse · 31/12/2017 12:49

Junket looks like something I would hate. It reminds me of blamange from the pictures. Not my thing.

Would consider the amount of cheese, if full far, a bit too much but otherwise would never consider the playful greedy.

3out · 31/12/2017 19:28

It looks very average, but it would amount to about two thirds of my daily allowance/points when I’m trying to lose weight using the SS app. Is your aunt a calorie counter? I can’t stand other people telling me how many calories is in what I’m eating. It’s a bizarre obsession of some people’s.

HariboForBreakfast · 31/12/2017 19:32

I'd eat that while stood in front of the fridge deciding what to eat. Blush

libbyb · 31/12/2017 19:47

Tuck in!! That is a lovely meal filler - healthy, not greedy!! Of course all my 'sinful' meals are sweet so I see your snacks as overly healthy!!

ktp100 · 31/12/2017 19:55

Has she ever met a man? My other half would have that sucked up in a minute flat and then ask how long dinner will be, and no, he's not overweight. Just bonkers.

Chocolate50 · 31/12/2017 19:59

Weird, does she have issues with food? thinking as she's tiny, she might...

1moremum · 31/12/2017 20:00

I read where you would have had ham too, but for the theiving cat. All i can say is Thank Goodness for the cat! Because ham as well is what would have pushed this over the edge into greediness. Xmas Grin

/end sarcasm

HmmGrey · 31/12/2017 20:06

This is very similar to something me and my family eat named ‘Crusty combo’ - deconstructed sandwich

Usual components:

Crusty bread -essential
Vintage cheddar cheese
Oak smoked ham or antipasti hams
Salad
Coleslaw
Pickled onions/chilli pickles onions
& Fancy crisps

It’s tasty, simple and great when you don’t fancy a proper meal.
