To think this is a perfectly fine meal?

My main meal of the day. I've had a cheese scone so far all day. Aunt just wandered past and made a comment on what I'm eating. Apparently it's greedy.

She's now sulking in the living room with my parents because I told her it wasn't greedy.

It's about 50g turkey, 50g cheese, five or six slices of beetroot and a tablespoon of pickle. Bread is about half an inch per slice.

Its all delicious and I'm really enjoying it too.

To think this is a perfectly fine meal?

Not greedy but so white / brown. So little veggies and no fruits...

Weezol · 30/12/2017 17:49

chien me too. I have all the makings of duck frI'd rice which was my plan for tonight now all I wanticipate is beetroot sandwiches. But the duck really needs to be cooked today. But the beetroot

QuestionableMouse You are having what is known in my house as a CBA tea. But we're Northern and a bit rough around the edges, so your aunt would probably be surprised we know about forks and plates...Grin

PeonyBucket · 30/12/2017 17:50

YABU to eat beetroot, it's revolting stuff

Beetroot is the food of the gods. As long as it's not pickled.
Pickled beetroot is ruined beetroot.

Weezol · 30/12/2017 17:50

Was going to correct typos but I quite like wanticipate in reference to food.

FoggieFishieCarpeDiem · 30/12/2017 17:50

I had lentils, fruit and egg for breakfast
A carrot snack
Yellow curry, potatoes, more red lentils, lettuce, fruit and a little black orange chocolate.

So no, I don’t think you were being greedy!

FoggieFishieCarpeDiem · 30/12/2017 17:52

*for supper

I didn’t eat that much for breakfast

Chienrouge · 30/12/2017 17:52

I bloody love pickled beetroot.

Lifeisabeach09 · 30/12/2017 17:52

Doesn't look weird or big.
Looks like a low-key meal cheese, bread and cold meats. Still a meal.
Tell aunt to mind her own business. Some people have more than a sparrow's appetite!
Definitely a generation thing though. We eat larger portions than what they did fifty years ago.

Mrsmadevans · 30/12/2017 17:54

It's more than fine it is lovely take no notice of the silly woman. My mil was like this , ate like a bird and looked so old from being so thin .

goodbyeeee · 30/12/2017 17:57

Agree it's a snack. I'd have that kind of thing in the evening if I'd had a massive lunch and you've only had a scone all day! I'm very partial to a picky plate. Beetroot is delicious and 3 bits of baguette is in no way greedy.

Parker231 · 30/12/2017 17:59

It’s a snack - we’re having a lot of them at this time of year but for it to be my main meal I’d need some vegetables.

expatinscotland · 30/12/2017 18:03

I love the food threads on here, pure whacked out, FUBAR orthorexia gold.

AtleastitsnotMonday · 30/12/2017 18:08

I think some older people have a rule that in order for food to class as a main meal it must be hot. Therefore she may have assumed that as it was cold it must be a snack. I’d be almost certain that whatever she eats in the restaurant for her dinner will be a larger serving and odds on more calorific.

saoirse31 · 30/12/2017 18:11

Now I really want some beetroot!!

Billben · 30/12/2017 18:13

She's now sulking in the living room with my parents because I told her it wasn't greedy.

I take it your aunt has issues with food and is jealous that you don’t. That plate would be a snack for me if I’ve already had one cooked meal that day.
Well done for standing up to your aunt. I find adults sulking truly pathetic.

FoggieFishieCarpeDiem · 30/12/2017 18:14

Ahhhh......". Food threads!

Mumsnet made me realise (and told me!) that I had food issues. But also... I’m not sure if comparing my food intake to people that might also have food issues is a good idea.

Knittedfairies · 30/12/2017 18:20

I wonder whether she would be quite so quick to call you greedy if you didn’t have both cheese and meat on your plate? My mum thought to have both was wrong, but I suppose growing up with rationing might make you think like that. Otherwise - enjoy!

therealnigeltufnel · 30/12/2017 18:22

light lunch and delicious apart from the beetroot

I'd have a bit of fruit after though or I'd still be hungry. It looks like the kind of lunch my elderly parents have and then get all sniffy when I'm still hungry afterwards...

Datec · 30/12/2017 18:25

Let them get on with it. Eat what you like it’s a buffet, not like you have taken 4 plates

YetAnotherSpartacus · 30/12/2017 18:26

The cat agrees with your Aunt and offers to take the rest of the turkey off your hands to spare you being greedy.

ReanimatedSGB · 30/12/2017 18:26

The only time it is appropriate to criticize - or even comment on - what someone else is eating is when:

They are a guest in your house and have raided your fridge without even asking.
They are a family member (particularly one who neither shops nor cooks) who is eating all of something meant to be shared/something which was supposed to be part of a meal to be served later.
They are eating the last of something when the shops have shut, which means someone else can't have breakfast tomorrow.
They are your DC eating snacks just before a meal and you know they will now not eat their meal.

Allabitmuchisntit · 30/12/2017 18:30

What's with all these people passing comment all the time on what others are eating? I'd be tempted to cram a bit more on there op just to piss her off some more!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 30/12/2017 18:31

YABU to eat beetroot, it's revolting stuff!

How very DARE you!!!!?????

OrinocoDugong · 30/12/2017 18:34

Not weird or greedy. Unless any of the items on that plate represents significantly more than your "fair share" of some specific item that other people might want too.

PurpleDaisies · 30/12/2017 18:36

What's with all these people passing comment all the time on what others are eating?

There do seem to have been a lot of threads like this recently.
