To think this is a perfectly fine meal?

My main meal of the day. I've had a cheese scone so far all day. Aunt just wandered past and made a comment on what I'm eating. Apparently it's greedy.

She's now sulking in the living room with my parents because I told her it wasn't greedy.

It's about 50g turkey, 50g cheese, five or six slices of beetroot and a tablespoon of pickle. Bread is about half an inch per slice.

Its all delicious and I'm really enjoying it too.

Was she planning on making everyone dinner and therefore thinks you are eating that as a snack before your main meal?

QuestionableMouse · 30/12/2017 17:13

Oh, I can see how it doesn't look like a main meal. We've had nothing but roast dinners over Christmas and I just fancied something a bit different.

She doesn't cook. She and my parents are going out to eat. (I was invited but have other plans)

Does she think you're trying to lose weight?

Maybe she thought she was being helpful if there's a 'main meal' to come.

Sorry if I've got you mixed up with another poster I just thought you'd posted about your weight before.

If she used the word 'greedy' then it's not very nice.

diddl · 30/12/2017 17:26

I can see that it isn't really much, but it does look like a lot of meat & cheese to me!

maddiemookins16mum · 30/12/2017 17:26

It's totally fine. It's not a main meal but don't we all have a 'large snack' meal for tea (dinner/supper 😊) on occasion. Unless she's under the impression you're tucking into meat and three veg at 7pm after this?

I'm home alone this evening and planning a two sausage and fried egg bap for my main meal.

kateandme · 30/12/2017 17:26

that's a pre tea post turkey roast snack lol.
firstly its Christmas, why aren you eating piles more!hehe
secondly it really fuck me off why people think its ever ok to cmment on what other people eat.i only ever find it cruel and unthinking as human beings.
thirdly what is too much.we are all different.different pasts, presents, body types background, culture, all these things change how we view food the type and the amount.so each ot their own.
you then described to us the measurements hun.you never need to do that to have to give reasoning behind the amount ur eating.its not right.you go for it,enjoy the food not the amount.enjoy.

DiseasesOfTheSheep · 30/12/2017 17:27

I could inhale that in one breath, so no, not a perfectly fine meal. I'd have to cook the cat too.

But if you're happy, there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. And your aunt is daft.

kateandme · 30/12/2017 17:28

even if it was lots.
or your trying to lose weight.
there are helpful nice ways of supporting someone.looking over and comment "greedy" is never one of them

Jaxhog · 30/12/2017 17:28

What's it to do with her? Looks fine to me.

AnnieAnoniMouse · 30/12/2017 17:28

Is she losing a marble or 6?

It’s none of her business how much you eat (unless it’s her house & her food I guess? But I’m assuming it’s your parents house) and ‘greedy’ is a nasty word to use casually anyway. It’s a character judgement, not just a comment on the amount of food.

The vegetarian version of that passes muster here for dinner (more often than it should) & that’s definitely not a large portion for dinner anyway.

...when is she leaving?

RavenLG · 30/12/2017 17:30

There was supposed to be ham too but the bastard cat stole it while I was slicing the bread.

GrinGrinGrin Sorry Op that was hilarious.

Not a traditional "meal" but sometimes you fancy what you fancy.

Zatsuma · 30/12/2017 17:31

I am not sure about the beetroot! but someone must like them Grin
Looks fine to me if you enjoy it

I don't really understand why posters are saying it's not a proper meal, what exactly is considered a proper meal then? Most people don't bother with starter/main/salad/pudding/cheese twice a day.

RavingRoo · 30/12/2017 17:31

Those slices of turkey look more than 50g. Have weighed 50g turkey and it’s usually two thin pieces at most. Maybe that’s what she was pointing out? Or maybe it’s the three thick slices of baguette (rather than 2). If it’s a meal then it’s probably fine, but if a snack then yes it is greedly.

PeapodBurgundy · 30/12/2017 17:33

I like a picky plate like that, and often have it if I don't fancy something cooked, or if I'm faffing about raher than sitting down to eat a meal. I have Quorn in place of the actual meat, but I can't see that making any difference to the portion size or the combination of foods on the plate.

It looks nice! Enjoy it!

skippykips · 30/12/2017 17:33

Show her this. This is greedy... id eat yours as a snack

SaucyJack · 30/12/2017 17:34

Eh?

That looks like the amount you shove in your face when you're stood in the kitchen assembling a plate to take out the lounge.

Ohyesiam · 30/12/2017 17:34

Add a bit of salad and I'd be perfectly happy. Ignore her.

Saladtongs · 30/12/2017 17:35

Ask your aunt if she's got an eating disorder and if she needs help. I bet she won't like your comment.

MsHarry · 30/12/2017 17:36

Looks fine to me. Not a snack though but a reasonable meal.

starzig · 30/12/2017 17:39

I hate people commenting on what I eat. Enjoy it

Chienrouge · 30/12/2017 17:40

This thread has made me go and devour half a jar of pickled beetroot.

Bumpsadaisie · 30/12/2017 17:42

I’d say that was lunch and expect you to be having eg stew and mash/spaghetti Bol for supper!

AnachronisticCorpse · 30/12/2017 17:44

I’ve had half a giant Toblerone and some Brie for lunch today. It’s still Christmas, really.
