Smoking weed is......

LockJawTrouble · 29/12/2017 22:17

Just trying to make sense of things. Is it me or smoking weed is not normal? I am fed up of this excuse to the point, where I think I need some reconfirmation , to make sure I am not the only one thinking that.

Boring is what it is.

Ta1kinPeace · 01/01/2018 00:35

An intelligent or interesting person is capable of entertaining themselves without suppressing their mental faculties.
But the evidence is that folks have found ways to get off their faces for aeons
making stuff illegal is a modern concept
that has not worked

Fifikittykat · 01/01/2018 08:06

An addiction. Like other addictions, addicts plan their lives around it. A close male friend smoked weed for decades and it really messed him up. He struggled to make any decisions, lacked motivation and general get up and go. His life drifted. He always seemed tired too.

Flipflopflipflap · 01/01/2018 08:57

Normal for people around me, not something for me personally due to psychosis.
Each to there own.

Indigo911 · 01/01/2018 09:03

@fifi I smoke it and I’m not addicted. Just because you smoke doesn’t automatically make you a drug addict, just as having a drink doesn’t automatically make you an alcoholic

maxthemartian · 01/01/2018 09:08

I occasionally have a small glass of wine.
My friend gets the shakes if he doesn't have a drink in the morning.
Only one of us is an addict.

Same with using weed. Occasional recreational use doesn't make someone an addict and anyone claiming so in the face of all rationality just sounds silly.
And I say this as someone who doesn't even partake.

ohfortuna · 01/01/2018 09:14

Something that I used to enjoy but I'm no longer interested in

CoteDAzur · 01/01/2018 09:49

"My oldest smoked so much his teeth fell out"

Teeth don't fall out from smoking weed. They fall out because of some other drugs.

Google "Meth mouth".

ohfortuna · 01/01/2018 09:56

I think the logic there goes something along these lines
Smoking cannabis = smoking drugs
Drugs are bad one of the really bad drugs is meth
I've seen pictures of meth addicts with missing teeth
There therefore smoking cannabis makes your teeth fall out

Obviously when I say logic I mean 'logic' 🙄

Oliversmumsarmy · 01/01/2018 10:45

Or maybe he smoked weed
Smoking weed=lost all motivation to brush his teeth

Losing all motivation to brush your teeth = bad teeth and gum disease which makes your teeth fall out

ohfortuna · 01/01/2018 10:48

I was a hard core Stoner for 10 years, every night I got stoned and ate half my body weight in chocolate sweets ice cream and biscuits, but I never once went to bed without cleaning my teeth!!
Yes I was a little fatter but my teeth did not suffer

19lottie82 · 01/01/2018 11:26

Grinch really? I think having a PHD is pretty much a counter argument for being thick and lacking motivation, don’t you?

I know plenty of people who smoke weed and aren’t “thick”. I’m
Not saying that you don’t get thick people who smoke weed, of course you do. But it also seems a bit thick to make sweeping generalisations like that.

Indigo911 · 01/01/2018 11:40

All the people I know who smoke weed (myself included) have postgraduate degrees and successful careers. One of them is a university professor. That doesn’t happen to ‘thick’ people or people with no motivation and he smokes a joint almost every day. I’m sure there are plenty of successful, intelligent people out there who also drink every day too but it hasn’t stopped them from achieving. There will be people who smoke weed to excess and let it take over their lives, but that doesn’t mean it’s the case for everyone! Stop making sweeping generalisations!

Branleuse · 01/01/2018 11:55

i think its pretty normal and common in my circles, including my own family as I grew up. Its not a particularly big deal, and just seen as a relaxant in the evening, much like a glass of wine. Noone elses business.

Im not particularly interested in talking to very stoned people, but I dont like drunk people either or people off their faces on anything.

Branleuse · 01/01/2018 11:57

I was really heartened to hear it is now being legalised in California. So much of America is legalising it now. Its becoming defacto legal in loads of areas now. Would be great if our cutback police force could actually concentrate on crimes that have actual victims.

MuseumOfCurry · 01/01/2018 12:02

Personally, I hate it and I've known a lot of people who have lost all ambition as a result of it.

To each their own, but I'd murder my children if I found them smoking pot. Not literally, but figuratively.

MargeryFenworthy · 01/01/2018 12:05

For losers

Ta1kinPeace · 01/01/2018 12:08

For those who hate marijuana,
what are your views on tobacco?

  • kills tens of thousands of people a year
  • founded with the slave trade
  • costs every taxpayer in the healthcare costs

Would you be happy if they got a job as a sales rep for Philip Morris ?

Eolian · 01/01/2018 12:11

I hate tobacco too. But I imagine most non-smokers do tbh.

MuseumOfCurry · 01/01/2018 12:12

They can do whatever the want while staying in the will short of dealing arms, I have zero interest in coming between other people and their tobacco (provided that it doesn't affect me).

Their careers are hardly up to me in any case.

Indigo911 · 01/01/2018 12:13

@margery i’ll let the university professors, teachers, engineers, doctors and charity workers that I know who smoke weed that they are all losers

ohfortuna · 01/01/2018 12:13

I think smoking anything isn't great for your lungs, I'll probably choose another method of administration if I decide use cannabis in the future

MuseumOfCurry · 01/01/2018 12:14

I hate tobacco, incidentally. Check out the 'what do you judge' thread. Wink

MorningCuppa · 01/01/2018 12:15

For wasters!

TollgateDebs · 01/01/2018 12:19

It is not normal or usual among my friends. Personally I hate what it does and can do. Seen too many mental health and addiction issues start with this drug and the results on families. I truly believe that some have a genetic predisposition to mental health issues after using cannabis. It can be useful medically, but that's another story. I don't like drinking or smoking either. We all have a choice, but I have no idea why people like to lose control and need something to help them 'relax', but that's just my opinion.
