Just trying to make sense of things. Is it me or smoking weed is not normal? I am fed up of this excuse to the point, where I think I need some reconfirmation , to make sure I am not the only one thinking that.

Aw, hello Garden Geek, Happy new Year to you too.
i'm not sure about legend, but thanks. Grin

I'm 51 and have been smoking it on and off since being in my twenties.
I believe in moderation, but just like drinking there have been times when I've been high as a kite, just the same as being pissed.
I don't need to be drunk or high as a kite to enjoy a spliff or drink.

I have never smoked cigarettes or weed in the house, we have our own little haven Grin
It's great listening to your favourite music after a joint.
Tonight, I believe dd is bullying me into watching an opera, Magic flute I believe.
I need something to get me through it.

Indigo911 · 31/12/2017 18:00

I am being tested for MS and find that the weed I smoke gets rid of all the neurological symptoms I have for a short while. My friend that I get it from has chronic arthritis from breaking his back. He experiences zero pain for a few hours when he smokes it

GnomeDePlume · 31/12/2017 18:03

I agree GardenGeek which is why I am pro legalisation. Proper legal commercialised growing would be automated. No need for people to be living in squalid dangerous conditions to tend the plants by hand.

maxthemartian · 31/12/2017 18:03

Indigo have you tried CBD oil as well for those times it's not convenient to be stoned?

Indigo911 · 31/12/2017 18:06

@max I haven’t but will definitely look into it. MS runs in my family so I knew I had a higher chance than most of developing it one day too. I find smoking weed gets rid of the symptoms like constant muscle spasms and numbness in my face

Ta1kinPeace · 31/12/2017 18:22

I shall keep asking the Anti Weed Brigade .....
would you be happy for your child to become a sales rep for BAT ?
Totally legal
well paid
what complaint could you have when nasty nasty weed is illegal Hmm

Indigo911 · 31/12/2017 18:24

Did you think gay people were nasty when it was illegal?

TheGrumpySquirrel · 31/12/2017 18:28

No issue with people doing what they like in the privacy of their own home. I don't think it should be allowed in public places, same as smoking. Don't impose it on others who don't want to breathe it in. Legalisation has made it impossible to walk down the street in those places without breathing it in. And I personally know many people who suffer long term MH problems from smoking it as teens.

gillybeanz · 31/12/2017 19:05

Grumpy

I do see your point, I too know people who suffer long time mh problems from smoking weed.
I also know far more people who have died prematurely through disease caused by smoking cigarettes and drinking, yet they are legal and no restriction as to how much a person can consume.

I walk down most streets in Amsterdam and don't smell it, far less in fact than my local area in the NW at night.
I find those that smoke it are most considerate to families, whereas here it's very obvious.

annandale · 31/12/2017 19:22

I don't think wanting to avoid breaking the law is in itself a moral flaw. It's possible to care both about law and ethics without thinking they are the same thing.

Slowtrain2dawn · 31/12/2017 19:28

I have two adult children who smoke weed regularly, not quite daily but too much imo. One still lives at home and I have had to ensure she’s not smoking it in or near the house because I also have a younger child. Neither I or DH have ever smoked it regularly, just the odd joint at parties pre children. I wish it was legal so they could be better informed about what they are smoking, health risks, level of TCH etc. They both work full time and I have a good relationship with them, I love them loads and worry for their mental health. All I can hope is they grow out of it. It does effect their motivation and mood sometimes but I can’t make them see that. I just hope they make a choice to stop/ cut down when they realise it’s a waste of time and money. They’re both under 25 so hopefully there’s time. To them and their friends it’s ”normall”. To me it’s not. I don’t nag them but I keep reminding them of this and the effects.

peachypips · 31/12/2017 19:29

Indigo - I’m afraid I actually do think that alcohol is dangerous, irresponsible and stupid. Grin

I am certain I am in the minority here. I feel quite saddened by the amount of silly prosecco/gin/wine memes on FB and the whole culture of ‘mummy needs wine’.

It upsets me to think how much the NHS is spending on alcohol related problems- esp the emergency services. What a waste. Sadly I don’t think it’s possible for people to use any kind of mind altering substance entirely responsibly all the time.

Hope no one feels upset or judged by this- it’s just my opinion so only worth anything to me!

Bue · 31/12/2017 19:49

It's totally normal where I live in Canada. Will be legal across the country from July 1. I'm a little bit conflicted about legalisation and have no interest in consuming it myself but equally I can't get my knickers too much in a twist about adults using. It's the effect on the teenage brain that I worry about.

Ta1kinPeace · 31/12/2017 20:09

skow
Question for those who don't smoke weed because it's illegal.
If/when it is legal, will you smoke it?
No
Because I do not smoke. Have never had the inclination.
Bud once its legal my cookery will get more interesting Grin

GnomeDePlume · 31/12/2017 20:12

If/when weed is legalised then I probably wont use it simply because I gave up smoking many years ago and dont want to start again.

ilovebattenberg · 31/12/2017 20:18

The elephant in the room is that the far more destructive (both physically and socially) alcohol is legal (because it has a rich and powerful lobby). Weed (pure) can actually be therapeutic.

greendale17 · 31/12/2017 20:20

Not normal to me or anyone i know

ilovebattenberg · 31/12/2017 20:21

California legalising recreational marijuana from tomorrow;

BeyondTheTrees · 31/12/2017 20:36

I don't see an issue with it, as long as it is not being used around a child. I see it as the same as alcohol. As long as you are child-free at the time, it shouldn't be an issue.

AcrossthePond55 · 31/12/2017 20:52

ilove personal possession, cultivation, and consumption of recreational weed has been legal here (Cal) since Prop 64 passed in 11/2016. You could grow it, smoke it, and give it away, but you couldn't sell it. What's happening 1/1/18 is the legal commercial sale of weed (i.e. pot shops).

The rules are pretty much the same as for alcohol. Age 21, can't smoke in public, no DUI, no being (obnoxiously) stoned in public.

I have no problem with our new laws. It's regulated and the THC content will be clearly marked (as it currently is for medical weed). And I haven't seen a great increase of obviously stoned individuals making a nuisance of themselves or causing fights in town of a Saturday night over the last year.

People can and do become addicted to weed (psychologically). But people can and do become physically addicted to alcohol. And a good deal of the money made from legal weed will be going to research, education, and treatment for substance abuse disorders and mental health programs. And there will be a decrease in law enforcement costs that can be funneled to other uses, such as domestic violence and anti-gang programs.

Win/win as far as I'm concerned.

Ta1kinPeace · 31/12/2017 20:56

The Tobacco industry kills tens of thousands of people every year.
The Tobacco industry was founded on industrial scale slavery
But tobacco is legal

Skowvegas · 31/12/2017 21:52

Legalisation has made it impossible to walk down the street in those places without breathing it in.

It depends. There are many different forms of legalisation. It was legalised in Maine but because smoking in public places has long been banned, you can't smoke it in public places. They're still working on how to manage the licensing of sales and social clubs where you can consume weed.

LoniceraJaponica · 31/12/2017 22:09

"Question for those who don't smoke weed because it's illegal.
If/when it is legal, will you smoke it?"

No, because I don't smoke. Although, like Ta1kinPeace I might like to eat it instead.

gillybeanz · 31/12/2017 23:38

I found it strange smoking it in Amsterdam coffee shops, and stole the sign saying if smoking inside it had to be neat.
No tobacco was a bit different Grin
Took me bag to me bong days.
Feeling quite mellow now and the loud noises from fireworks aren't bothering me.
The colours are wonderful Wink

RestingGrinchFace · 01/01/2018 00:28

@18lottie82 I know plenty of people with PhDs who are a tad thick. Unfortunately it's not really proof of anything these days. Either way there must be an intellectual deficit if you spend your time making yourself even stupider on purpose. Weed users are no different to drunks in this respect. As for the beetles I'm sure that we can all agree that they are not mozarts and their personal lives are testament to the propensity that some of them had for making very stupid decisions so I am really not sure how they are relevant. An intelligent or interesting person is capable of entertaining themselves without suppressing their mental faculties.
