To pick up on the Star Trek motif.

Yes, and reports that Hope Hicks was like a daughter to him, whereas Ivanka was like a wife to him.

Don't worry, Pain. I believe virtually nothing from those sources. It makes for some temporary fun, though. Smile

TheClaws · 03/01/2018 23:48

I’ve had a look at Breitbart and they are hissing as if they are snakes on fire. They follow Bannon, not Trump, essentially, and the comments reflect that - although some seem to think this could be some kind of 4D game Bannon and Trump are playing.

cozietoesie · 04/01/2018 00:10

Wishful thinking, I suspect. Smile

(The Hill) Earlier in the year, Trump created an electoral fraud commission via Exective Order. Now he’s dissolving it, also via Executive Order, as it failed.

PerkingFaintly · 04/01/2018 00:56

Wait, what?

That's actually significant. The Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity was looking likely to become the Commission for fraud, rather than Commission against fraud.

So it's important that it's gone. But... what happens next in that field?

Lweji · 04/01/2018 01:05

Oh, dear. Huckleberry Sarah has to answer questions about the president's mental stability, his authoritarian behaviour, awards to the fakest media and...
Q: "Isn't it a taunting tweet to say that he has a large nuclear button?"
SHS: "I think that's just a fact."

SHS: "People are entitled to their own opinion, but not to their own facts" (so... Trump...)

You have to watch it to believe it. This is what US politics has come to.

Alwaysinmyheart · 04/01/2018 01:11

Just read Trump’s statement on Bannon, wow the claws are out!

TheClaws · 04/01/2018 01:57

Because the thought of potential nuclear war is hilarious! Don’t you think that Trump ‘unnerving’ Kim Jong Un, making him feel insecure, is something to be feared and not laughed about by grinning over-made-up talking heads on an asinine chat show?

A single source familiar with the meeting tells us:

Surprise meeting tonight between Deputy Atty General Rod Rosenstein and House Speaker Paul Ryan was requested by Rosenstein to discuss matters related to Congressman Devin Nunes and the Russia investigation.

Let's hope that this particular episode from history is repeated.

'The scene from the White House south lawn on August 9, 1974, is vivid in the nation’s memory. That morning, President Richard Nixon famously boarded Marine One for the final time, put on a wide grin and fired off a final double-V to the assembled crowd.

But one of the most interesting aspects of that day is what didn’t happen on the south lawn: Even though Nixon had more than two hours left in his tenure, the most critical tool of the modern presidency had already been taken away from him. He never noticed it, but the nuclear “football” didn’t travel with him as he boarded the helicopter, and later, Air Force One for his flight back to California.

In a democratic country without hereditary power, royal crowns or bejeweled thrones, the nuclear football is in some ways the only physical manifestation of our nation’s head of state.

Yet, on that August day, it had been quietly removed from Nixon’s hands—remaining behind at the White House with the incoming commander-in-chief, Gerald Ford.'

Like all too much of the Administration’s actions to date, this commission was created to validate a deliberate falsehood by the President. That’s why I introduced an amendment last year to end it. Good riddance.Adam Schiff added,

Kim Jong-un and his Chinese mates (not to mention the siberian neighbours) wrap them all around his little finger and they don't even notice it.

They simply don't know what to do but to tweet.

Today, in We Are Winning But We Haven't Yet Won - Donald Trump dissolved his "very distinguished voter fraud" panel, which has recently admitted to not been able to meet or do anything but answer legal challenges for months.
I put this in the category of We Are Winning But We Haven't Yet Won because note what his next move is: refer the question of voter fraud to the Department of Homeland Security.

When stymied, the authoritarian escalates.

DHS (which contains both ICE and customs/border protection) has quietly been the site of most of Donald Trump's most horrific policy victories.

You know the kind of security theater we go through at airports? Inconvenient and embarrassing for many of us, terrifying and traumatizing for some of us.

Imagine that, on the way to the voting booth.

Imagine ICE standing out in front of polling places, looking for people who "don't look like they're supposed to be voting". Imagine them secretly staking out some polling places. Which ones? You don't know.

Alabama had cops out pulling over cars and detaining people on their way to vote, visibly intimidating others who witnessed this.

Even DHS does not invoke these specific tactics... we as a country have shown we are willing to swallow quite a bit when it comes from a bottle labeled "National Security".

Whatever follows, we are sure to see some pundits with the hottest of takes, claiming that the very distinguished frauds should have been allowed to do their job, and that we played into Trump's hands by resisting them and giving him an excuse to invoke national security.

Somehow "The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." has become "Don't take a single step, it only leads to a thousand mile journey." in a lot of people's minds.

E.g.: Don't fight Trump, it'll only lead to fighting Pence.

But if we don't fight this mess every step of the way, they'll just do whatever we want and claim a mandate.

The truth is that we are winning, but we have not yet won.

I think the very distinguished fraud panel was on life support from the moment it became public that they couldn't conduct any business due to the legal challenges. Trump doesn't care about results, but he does care about appearances. Looking ineffectual == capital crime.

Trump’s appointment of a prosecutor - after a personal interview - who may well be prosecuting him is absolutely abhorrent to the rule of law.
Appointment of Geoffrey Berman, especially w/o Congressional approval, is unprecedented and inexcusable - raising serious questions about the integrity of this highly esteemed office and our system of checks and balances.
Regretfully and outrageously, Pres. Trump seems again to be subverting legitimate investigations into his own potential criminal wrongdoing, including collusion with Russian election interference and obstruction of justice.

This will never actually be litigated—it’s just for show. Trump would not want to be questioned or produce documents about the facts under dispute.

This also makes crystal clear that Bannon is not backing off his remarks or claiming he was misquoted.

As of next week, West Wing staffers have been told they can’t use personal cell phones anymore per multiple aides. They were told this early in the term but it’s now being enforced, with security concerns being cited.

MERCERS OUT: Bannon's recent behavior has lost him the financial backing of a major patron and supporter of his projects — Rebekah Mercer. @jdawsey1, @PostRoz and I report.

www.washingtonpost.com/amphtml/politics/trump-slams-bannon-when-he-was-fired-he-not-only-lost-his-job-he-lost-his-mind/2018/01/03/21fb158a-f0aa-11e7-b3bf-ab90a706e175_story.html

The president and his team were already infuriated two weeks ago by a profile in Vanity Fair in which Bannon attacked a number of senior Trump advisers and seemed to mock the president. Trump had wanted to attack Bannon then, people familiar with the strategy said.

For months, Trump confidants — including aides such as Hicks and Kushner, lawyer Ty Cobb, and friends like Newsmax chairman Chris Ruddy and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) — have tried to persuade the president to cut ties with Bannon, who in recent months has backed insurgent Republicans such as failed Senate candidate Roy Moore in Alabama.

Bannon has in recent weeks also alienated his main financial backer, Rebekah Mercer, after he told several other major conservative donors that he would be able to count on the Mercers' financial support should he run for president, a person familiar with the conversations said. The person said Mercer now does not plan to financially support Bannon's future projects — and that she was frustrated by his moves in Alabama and some of his comments in the news media that seemed to stoke unnecessary fights.

A person close to Bannon said he was not running for president. Bannon and Mercer declined to comment through representatives.

fun fact: the Mercers’ super PAC, which was intertwined with the Trump campaign in 2016, directed most of its expenditures last year to Greenberg Traurig—the law firm that employs Trump's new SDNY US Attorney www.fec.gov/data/disbursements/?two_year_transaction_period=2018&data_type=processed&committee_id=C00575373&min_date=01%2F01%2F2017&max_date=01%2F03%2F2018

the Mercers also own Cambridge Analytica and, not surprisingly, their super PAC used its services. Cambridge Analytica has also been pulled into the Russia probe
