Showing off posting pics of your presents on Fb

My best friend thinks it’s showing off and she has been really snarky about people we both know posting pics of their gifts

Personally I really like seeing what people have had but also because I like to see people I like happy

Although I personally then decided not to say / post a pic on Fb what I’d had for fear people would think I’m a show off twat 😩

I think it’s a bit show offy

HorseItIntoMe · 25/12/2017 21:21

Whoops posted too soon

So mn jury. Pics of Christmas presents on social media. Showing off, or harmless ? 🧐

Personally I think it’s a bit cringe but each to their own.

minisoksmakehardwork · 25/12/2017 21:21

I don't mind seeing pictures of happy people enjoying their presents. But just a photo of a pile with a 'look at what I got' doesn't sit right with me. It makes me feel uncomfortable, that the person is trying to show what fabulous people they know to be showered with (usually) expensive gifts.

busyboysmum · 25/12/2017 21:22

I think a lot of people might agree with you because there's been none of that on my Facebook this year. That has been in previous years so there's definitely been a sea change.

AdalindSchade · 25/12/2017 21:23

It's naff but people seem to think it's normal for some reason.

brizzledrizzle · 25/12/2017 21:25

I think it's pretty daft but then if they want to risk getting burgled then that's up to them. I saw a picture last night of the presents and they came out half way into the room from under the tree; that was in addition to a large xmas eve box each.

HappyCamperZZZ · 25/12/2017 21:26

I quite like seeing happy friends kids faces with their opened gifts. Took many pics of my own kids happy faces with their built lego etc but doubt i'll post on FB, just took the pics for myself.

Its the pics showing huge unwrapped piles of presents I don't like. They are show offy for sure. Very much a tone of 'look how many I've bought my kids'.

littlepeas · 25/12/2017 21:27

The main point of social media these days is to show off. I gave up on posting anything long ago (although I suppose I have things I could show off about if I wanted to). I don't like it.

HorseItIntoMe · 25/12/2017 21:28

I find the huge piles of unopened gifts a bit crass I have to say

But today I’ve seen some lovely gifts to lovely people I know who deserve them for one reason or another

HorseItIntoMe · 25/12/2017 21:28

Oh cross post happy camper x

PinkBuffalo · 25/12/2017 21:29

I'm with you OP, I like seeing what people have got and that their so pleased they put a picture up. I don't see it a lot, but when I do I don't begrudge them for it.

Sparklingbrook · 25/12/2017 21:29

It is a bit show offy but you know the ones who are going to do it because they do it every year so you can just scroll past.

Nicpem1982 · 25/12/2017 21:29

I've seen a few videos this year scanning over huge piles of opened gifts with ridiculous #santasnicelist #makingmemories type captions each to their own but it's not my style

Straycatblue · 25/12/2017 21:31

As above, depends if the photos are general photos of the family having fun and the presents happen to be in the photos.
If if its a photo of the pile of presents you or your family have received then its just crass & cringey, unless for example someone has specifically asked to see all the presents you got.

Pre social media would you have taken a photo of your presents, got it developed and sent it via post to your friends hoping they would write you back saying how much they liked your pile of gifts? If so then fair enough , bash on.

GreyMorning · 25/12/2017 21:32

I would love to as DH got me a lovely present but it would be vulgar to boast.

Also, no under tree present pictures either, ours looked 'great' but as DS is only 3 it was a lot of low cost little things, I think about £50s worth.

Asiaticlily · 25/12/2017 21:32

I think some of the worst ones are when people post massive piles, wait for someone to say “oh wow you’ve got them loads” and then they say “oh I didn’t think I’d got too many this year” Hmm

Yes you did, that’s why you posted. Confused

Neonrainbow · 25/12/2017 21:34

This year I've seen on one person's facebook, a pile of xmas eve presents in addition to the xmas eve box and then twice as many presents again on xmas day. At what point does it become buying stuff for the sake of it?

LockedOutOfMN · 25/12/2017 21:35

I think it's showing off and in poor taste. Judging by my FB thread I'm the only person who thinks that.

HorseItIntoMe · 25/12/2017 21:35

Grey ..me too. And I feel like I don’t want anyone to know about it and worry people will think we’re flash or pretentious

OP posts:
ALemonyPea · 25/12/2017 21:36

Grown ups posting pictures of everything they got is naff. I do t like being told every single present someone got irl either.

Did you have a nice Christmas, get anything nice?
Yes I got a necklace and other stuff
Fantastic

Much prefer that to

Yes I got a necklace, dressing gown, slippers, perfume, tickets for a show, box of chocs, shampoo, blah blah blah

Turnocks34 · 25/12/2017 21:40

I think it's really tacky. My SIL has done this, posted a pic and DN has got 30 plus presents easily. She's 2.
It's posted with quote along the lines of 'santa has been'

comedycentral · 25/12/2017 21:42

It's grim. It really is grim

GarkandGookin · 25/12/2017 21:49

Oh, I posted a photo of something my DH bought me. I wasn't trying to show off (the item cost about £20) but I thought it was utterly beautiful and know some of my friends would appreciate it. Blush
Now I am worried people will think I was showing off (which I definitely wasn't)

NeverTwerkNaked · 25/12/2017 21:50

I think it’s really crass. Photo of an excited child with a present not so bad. Photos of big piles of gifts etc are just tasteless
