Showing off posting pics of your presents on Fb

My best friend thinks it’s showing off and she has been really snarky about people we both know posting pics of their gifts

Personally I really like seeing what people have had but also because I like to see people I like happy

Although I personally then decided not to say / post a pic on Fb what I’d had for fear people would think I’m a show off twat 😩

OP posts:
ALemonyPea · 25/12/2017 21:52

Gael, you only showed one gift, not the masses you may have got, you’re good, don’t fret.

WhooooAmI24601 · 25/12/2017 21:53

SIL posted a picture this morning of several Mulberry bags, a Chanel purse and some other branded things she'd had and MIL's mouth immediately did the 'hens arse' thing as she hates any sort of ostentatious behaviour.

I like seeing what folk have had (because I'm a nosy shite).

SilverySurfer · 25/12/2017 21:53

I've seen a thread or two along similar lines on here - it's cringe making.

iloveMiWadi · 25/12/2017 21:54

No it's absolutely pathetic to lay out all the presents in a nice presentation and take a photo then upload it online. Idiots trying to show off . I find it's only usually chavs who are trying to make a point to people, trying to prove something Grin

TheFirstMrsDV · 25/12/2017 21:54

Its hated on MN but personally I prefer it to all the whinging threads on MN about how rubbish the OP's presents have been.
I don't mean the sad ones where some poor person hasn't had a single present. I mean the jaw dropping whingfests because the ILs/OHs/DCs just haven't got it right.

Give me a photo of a pile of present any day over that load of entitled bollocks.

Leyani · 25/12/2017 21:55

what's the purpose of posting a photo of a pile of wrapped presents, it's showing off and is bound to make others seeing it feel less happy on what should be a lovely day for everyone.

But photos of the kids in their new superhero outfits or proudly cycling a new bike, no prob at all, that's just normal sharing of an important moment.

TooManyPaws · 25/12/2017 21:56

Whoops. I spend Christmas on my own and I did post pictures of two presents, showing how incredibly generous the cats and dogs have been to me...

Sparklingbrook · 25/12/2017 21:58

It's not like the good old days when you went back into school first week of Jan and found out what everyone got for Christmas. Sad

It must be hard for the children who have parents who don't go OTT to see their friends on FB with piles and piles of unwrapped presents.

One photo I saw today was just a load of money made into a fan shape. Confused

MaisyPops · 25/12/2017 21:58

Very showy offy, unless something funny/amusing is attached to it.
E.g. got the pie in the face game then a photo of someone enjoying the game with a pie face is fine / if someone has a onesie then a daft photo of them dressed as pikachu is fine.

'OMG. My boy knows me. Love Christmas with this one' posts with photos of jewelery, lots of expenaive gifts just feels nauseatingly 'LOOK AT ME!'

321namechange · 25/12/2017 21:59

^^ Photo of an excited child with a present not so bad. Photos of big piles of gifts etc are just tasteless.

This.

pasturesgreen · 25/12/2017 22:02

Showy offy and tacky. I'm afraid I judge.

roomsonfire · 25/12/2017 22:03

i shared one today. My DC went out (with help) to purchase me a gift and DC did 100x better than any of my exes or family ever did. More a proud thing than show off thing because it was cheap but thoughtful things.

i know folks will think why is she sharing that? but I have a kid with SEN so the fact DC got this 'right' by thinking of someone else is a big deal.

ClaryFray · 25/12/2017 22:03

I don't mind seeing it! I'm nosy also, who cares lol

Obviousnamechange11 · 25/12/2017 22:04

I posted a photo of my present from DH.

All my FB friends are special to me. They ate people i genuinely care about snd enjoy being involved with.
Therefore I don't consider my lovely friends as show offs. I get a real kick out of seeing how they are spending their Christmas.
I suppose if you have a load of people on FB that don't mean a great deal to you then I suppose it's more likely to look at them with a more critical or negative point of view.

Nicpem1982 · 25/12/2017 22:05

Rooms- that's neither show offy or tacky that's blooming lovely and celebrating a milestone for your awesome child that's a bloody proud moment not a show off crass one Smile

KiteMarked · 25/12/2017 22:06

I shared a pic on here of the calm before the storm night before Christmas morning. I love the twinkling tree with the beatifully wrapped presents underneath. It's pretty.

I'm not on social media anymore, but I've shared those photos on Facebook in the past. It probably was crass, which is one of the reasons why I quit FB; my crass-ometer is not tuned properly.

Nicpem1982 · 25/12/2017 22:06

missyB1 · 25/12/2017 22:07

Yep saw a post last night of all the presents laid out around the living room, crinngggge!!!!

BumWad · 25/12/2017 22:10

Vulgar. Hate it

roomsonfire · 25/12/2017 22:11

Nicpem1982 thanks. Its the weirdest collection of things but if you think about them they all fit together perfectly.

DC admitted to buying sweets with the change too

LinManWellWellWell · 25/12/2017 22:14

I've not been on fb long and I must say, Christmas on fb has been quite the eye opener! I had no idea how much stuff other children were getting. I both find it cringe, and intriguing to see how others do it! However what I really don't like is seeing photos/videos of kids in their pjs opening presents..that seems like sacred family time that shouldn't be for sharing. But then I could apply that to a lot of stuff on fb, especially my pet hate, pics of sleeping children and pics of ill children complete with vomit bowl...

Nicpem1982 · 25/12/2017 22:14

Rooms- it sounds like they fit perfectly for you. Love that dc spent the change on sweets

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 25/12/2017 22:14

It's a bit silly for adults to post over-excitabed pictures of their Christmas haul, but I don't actually care if people want to do it.

I know someone who places everything just so, in order that every Chanel, Prada, Tom Ford etc. label can 'just' be glimpsed. I smile and move on.

Iamahppy · 25/12/2017 22:14

I just feel a bit sorry for people who do this, it seems to be people who don't have a lot of loved ones to share the day with or the type who have to validate their lives via social media (see also "happy birthday to my wonderful child/spouse who is so amazing and wonderful and brings joy to everyone I am so blessed etc..)
