Taking the tree down!

Is it wrong to consider taking the tree down tomorrow? When is everyone else doing it?? I think last year I did it just after Boxing Day. As the kids get older the presents seem to get bigger and I end up having to rearrange the whole room. Need that tree gone. Does that make me a grinch?

And my opinion is you have to be some special kind of miserable to take your Christmas tree down on Boxing day.

Didnt you read my post? I am miserable! Lots of people are. It doesn’t make them shitty people. It doesn’t make you better than them because your Christmas was the picture perfect postcard. Get a clue.

Turnocks34 · 25/12/2017 21:42

I take mine down on New Year's Eve day. I can't bare starting the new year with Christmas in my house for some reason. I adore Christmas, I start playing music in October but for me, January is my time to pretend I'm going to be healthy and organised.

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 25/12/2017 21:42

I cannot believe I am actually having to justify my Christmas tree habits to a stranger. Who the fuck takes offence at how someone else does Christmas. Who even cares what other people do? Your Christmas wasn’t all that if you’re so concerned about how others are doing it.

RedRobin87 · 25/12/2017 21:43

I think ours is coming done tomorrow or Wednesday. It's just in the way and we have it up a few weeks.

Now that Christmas is over, I don't see the point in keeping it up when we could take it down and get some space back

Thermostatpolice · 25/12/2017 21:43

12th night here. It's only been up three days. But can see why Boxing Day would be good if you've had it up a while.

LaughingLlama · 25/12/2017 21:45

Why wait? Get that tree down tonight before bed.

PasstheStarmix · 25/12/2017 21:46

We always take ours down before 31st because we like to enjoy New Year's eve with a fresh clean house, drinks and party food then we wake up on 1st Jan starting the New Years with last year's festivities packed away. It doesn't seem right somehow to us to have remainder of last year still there for a fresh new year.

PasstheStarmix · 25/12/2017 21:47

We always put decs up on 1st Dec so they've been up a good month as well

Actually that's not a bad shout. If I hadn't had Wine I would be v tempted.

Scoleah · 25/12/2017 21:49

My "small tidy up" just turned into a Full blown clean, pulled all the decorations down and the Tree, and their already stored away in the attic!
Kids are happy they've got room for all their new Presents!

12 the night is the only acceptable date

Sparklingbrook · 25/12/2017 21:50

Some of the cards need to go. They are really getting on my nerves and it's paper recycling week this week.

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 25/12/2017 21:51

I might be a super miser and take mine down tonight just I piss olive off. Grin

Rainbunny · 25/12/2017 21:52

"Are all the early taker downers the early putter uppers?"

Yep! I'm in the States so I put ours up the day after Thanksgiving every year Grin

Bathbathbath · 25/12/2017 21:52

I usually take ours down on Christmas Eve as we are away over Christmas. This year we are at home so it might last until Wednesday!

HRTpatch · 25/12/2017 21:54

Up around the 15th..down Jan 2nd. Fill the house with fresh flowers.

DeadButDelicious · 25/12/2017 21:55

Mine came down this evening. I've spent 3 weeks stopping DD from trying to destroy it and the cats have knocked it over 3 times. That's enough. Down it comes. Smile

oliveinacampervan · 25/12/2017 21:55

I couldn't give a shit @donny

I care a lot less about the opinions of random nobodies than you do, clearly......

But if you wanna spend your Christmas night taking down your Christmas tree to try to annoy some random person on the internet who doesn't give a fuck, knock yerself out! Wink Personally, I shall be spending quality time with my family, drinking wine, and watching a great Christmas film. And you know, actually having FUN.

kittensinmydinner1 · 25/12/2017 21:57

I think there is a very clear line here between traditionalists and those who are more consumer lead.

For traditionalists the tree can't go up until at least the first Sunday in Advent (artificial trees) and week before at the earliest for fresh trees because they normally stay up until the epiphany on 6th Jan. The day the Kings came to visit the baby Jesus. To many this is the Christmas period.

If you have a non religious view of Christmas and are dictated by the commercial pressures around you then you will feel the need to get on with 'the next thing' the minute the Turkey has been eaten. That means getting rid of tree on Boxing Day and getting to the sales to buy more STUFF !!! Hurry hurry no time to waste....

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 25/12/2017 21:59

I couldn't give a shit @donny**

Yeah, your posts on this thread suggest otherwise! Grin

And you know, actually having FUN.

Go on then, get off MN. You’re neglecting your family so you can make others feel shit about something that literally does not maker. Go you.

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 25/12/2017 21:59

Sparklingbrook · 25/12/2017 22:00

WOW!

I've just taken our tree and decorations down. It's so refreshing. Sadly they're not in the attic yet as my husbands' golf clubs are in the way and I can't get to the space without a massive wrestle. I'm quietly annoyed that my husband won't put them away for me now, but realise I'm being unreasonable at 9:57pm on Christmas Day. I did snap at him because he wasn't helping when the lights were getting tangled though.

Sparklingbrook · 25/12/2017 22:03

I am going nowhere near the sales tomorrow, and didn't have turkey. Confused I might have a good clean of the house though.
