Taking the tree down!

Elsouth · 25/12/2017 19:28

Is it wrong to consider taking the tree down tomorrow? When is everyone else doing it?? I think last year I did it just after Boxing Day. As the kids get older the presents seem to get bigger and I end up having to rearrange the whole room. Need that tree gone. Does that make me a grinch?

Are all the early taker downers the early putter uppers?

MidnightAura · 25/12/2017 21:03

I want mine down asap. But t be fair that's because the puppy has pulled it over twice!

Sparklingbrook · 25/12/2017 21:04

No but that seems to be being conveniently ignored on this thread. Grin

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 25/12/2017 21:05

Yep, early putter uppers are definitely early taker downers.

Notsoaccidentproneanymore · 25/12/2017 21:05

We only put our tree up yesterday Grin

Fffion · 25/12/2017 21:06

We keep ours up for the whole of Christmas.

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 25/12/2017 21:06

Went up on Thursday. Coming down tomorrow.

coconutnut · 25/12/2017 21:07

Yes sparkling and you've scarred your child for life! Wink

brizzledrizzle · 25/12/2017 21:08

Our tree went up on Wednesday or Thursday, I can't quite remember now.

Sparklingbrook · 25/12/2017 21:09

Oh blimey coconutnut you are probably right. I will ask them later and see if they want to talk it through...

TookyClothespin · 25/12/2017 21:10

ours still has presents under it!
Always 12th night here! Tree generally goes up the week before Christmas and comes down on 12th night.

oliveinacampervan · 25/12/2017 21:12

@Donnyndvladsittinginatress

How shall I do Easter? I was planning on firing some hard boiled eggs at them as they came downstairs on Easter Sunday? Sound good?

No.

DrDreReturns · 25/12/2017 21:13

New Years Day. It just seems wrong still having decorations up when I go back to work on the 2nd.

coconutnut · 25/12/2017 21:13

sparkling I hope you saved the money from the 2 trees you didn't buy as you'll need it for counselling sessions.

AlbaSelkie · 25/12/2017 21:14

No YANBU, I'm sick of it by 2nd January so I usually take it down on NYD

SugarMiceInTheRain · 25/12/2017 21:17

Normally keep it up til the 6th January, but haven't really felt Christmassy at all this year, can't put my finger on why, but have been faking it for the sake of everyone else. We're away 27-30th and possibly have a few friends coming over on NYE, so will leave the decorations up til the New Year and I will try to persuade DH that we should take it down on the 1st. Just got to plaster on a grin and get on with the fake festive feeling...

DrDreReturns · 25/12/2017 21:18

I don't actually like having a tree in the living room TBH.
Me too - it gets in the way of my view of the telly!

Sallystyle · 25/12/2017 21:19

I like the build up to Christmas but think the tree loses its 'magic' after Christmas and is just a tree with things hanging from it after Christmas Day - a bit like a wedding dress is just a dress after the wedding.

Yep.

After tomorrow Christmas for me is pretty much over. Life returns back to normal.

I feel like the tree is there for the build up. Once BD is gone it just feels pointless.

It has nothing to do with when it goes up.

EmilyChambers79 · 25/12/2017 21:19

Went up on the 3rd December and will come down 31st December. Big clean then a new year with clean house and winter decorations up!

turbohamster · 25/12/2017 21:20

I love that people start ridiculously early, it means I can get real trees for free/virtually free on the 22nd/23rd December and have multiple ones up until the 6th Grin

noeffingidea · 25/12/2017 21:21

Will probably take it down on the 27th. I put it up on the 21st.
It's only a small tree, and neither me nor the kids are bothered about it. I might not have a tree at all next year.

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 25/12/2017 21:23

No

Oh Sad well that’s that then. Olive, director of family celebrations, has spoken.

bimbobaggins · 25/12/2017 21:25

I usually take mine down on the second because I don’t want to be back at work and having to come home and take it down. Although I am on holiday this year so i took it down before I left. I don’t put it up early either

ClothEaredBint · 25/12/2017 21:37

ours comes down after new year, always before 12th night, but it doesn't go up until the middle of December.

Oliveinacampervan · 25/12/2017 21:38

@Donnyandvladsittinginatree

well that’s that then. Olive, director of family celebrations, has spoken.

No, 'Olive, with a different OPINION to you' has spoken... And my opinion is you have to be some special kind of miserable to take your Christmas tree down on Boxing day.

If your fragile snowflakery has been wounded, then maybe public message forums (where people will have different opinions to you,) are not the place for you.
