Taking the tree down!

Is it wrong to consider taking the tree down tomorrow? When is everyone else doing it?? I think last year I did it just after Boxing Day. As the kids get older the presents seem to get bigger and I end up having to rearrange the whole room. Need that tree gone. Does that make me a grinch?

I feel like taking my tree down tomorrow and chucking it in the bin Grin I've had mine up far too long this year! I'm considering throwing my decorations out at the very least as my 1yo had broken a load of them 🙄.

We are moving House in jan so the less stuff to move the better Grin

A week is about my limit with the tree. Still having the tree still up when the DC go back to school? Not a chance. The school's tree won't still be up.

CasperGutman · 25/12/2017 19:41

FFS, people. It's Christmas until 12th Night at least. Leave the poor trees alone you daft bunch of miseries.

DailyMailIsEnemyOfPeople · 25/12/2017 19:41

Before NY is my ideal. When I can be arsed is reality.

But there is no rule to say you still have to have the tree up. Will the tree police come round? Shock

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 25/12/2017 19:43

Well, if you put it up a month ago, it’s not surprisimg you have enough of it! Ours is going donw on sat 6th Jan.

WhooooAmI24601 · 25/12/2017 19:44

Ours used to come down on 12th Night but DS2 was born that day, so we take it down on New Years Day (hangover occasionally prevents this) so there's a gap.

I love how warm and cosy everyone's homes are with trees up, I'd leave mine longer if it wasn't for birthdays.

LockedOutOfMN · 25/12/2017 19:45

We're in Spain so it stays up to the 6th.

IPokeBadgers · 25/12/2017 19:46

12th night for us....it only went up on the 21st!

Distractotron · 25/12/2017 19:47

Ours came down today. We needed to fix the Wifi and it was in the way. Don't care 😂

Teddy1970 · 25/12/2017 19:47

2nd January here, once New Year's day has passed I feel Christmas is over, I couldn't take it down Boxing Day though, bit too early for me.

Isn't it very anti-climatic to leave it up until 6th January? What do you think each time you look at it knowing that Xmas was 7-10 days ago?

I love the clean slate feeling of having all the seasonal decorations gone by 1 January.

AuntLydia · 25/12/2017 19:49

New year's day for me as that's officially the end of all the celebrations really. We're still visiting family and exchanging gifts tomorrow so it's still very much Christmas!

CurlyhairedAssassin · 25/12/2017 19:50

I like ours up on New Year’s Eve. I still think of NYE as being part of the festive period as I think most people do. Hence I like the festive decorations still to be up. But the 2nd Of Jan - New Year’s Eve and day is finished and it’s time for “out with the old and in with the new” kind of feeling, so that’s when ours comes down. Fresh start, big clean before back to school and work.

Done and dusted till 11th December 2018.

Pennypickle · 25/12/2017 19:51

We put our tree up Christmas Eve and take it down New Years Eve. Whatever suits you and your family really.

We used to put it up after the first week in December and take it down after the 12th night until we realised DS was Ill all over Christmas because of the amount of dust the tree collected. (We discovered at Christmas when he was 4 years old that he suffers severe asthma).

There is no right or wrong way. Christmas is only for 3 days anyway - Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. X

Cary2012 · 25/12/2017 19:52

Tomorrow if I can muster up the energy. If not Wednesday. Fed up with cats playing footie with baubles!

meditrina · 25/12/2017 19:53

We keep ours up until Twelfth Night.

I don't want to cut Christmas short!!

Viviennemary · 25/12/2017 19:53

I think fair enough to take it down after the 27th and get your room back to normal.

LynetteScavo · 25/12/2017 19:53

12th night...unless we're going away. It would be weird not to have it up for New Year's Eve.

TheZeppo · 25/12/2017 19:55

My parents used to insist it being up til
12th night. Made me miserable coming home from school seeing it still up!

I'm firmly in the 27th-29th camp. New Years definitely a fresh start.

Sparklingbrook · 25/12/2017 19:55

But the schools go back on 3/1, so is that cutting Christmas short? DH goes back to work 2/1.

Itchytights · 25/12/2017 19:55

12th night of course.

Dailystuck71 · 25/12/2017 19:56

Usually I’m 27th but we are out. It will be down by the weekend though.
