Taking the tree down!

Is it wrong to consider taking the tree down tomorrow? When is everyone else doing it?? I think last year I did it just after Boxing Day. As the kids get older the presents seem to get bigger and I end up having to rearrange the whole room. Need that tree gone. Does that make me a grinch?

Twelfth Night, of course!
We celebrate Yule so I love the Lights, symbolising the Return of the Sun.
I also feel down in winter's dark so like all the candles and lights and how pretty the house looks, especially in the evenings

Namechange16 · 25/12/2017 20:24

Mine's up from 2/12 to 28/12. Can't cope any longer!!!

Coastalcommand · 25/12/2017 20:25

Twelfth Night here. I too think it's a bit sad that people are so keen to move on to the next thing so quickly. Our tree goes up late, and we enjoy the whole 12 days of Christmas.

Sarahh2014 · 25/12/2017 20:25

Ny eve

Becles · 25/12/2017 20:25

12th Night tree went up on 16th

happymummy12345 · 25/12/2017 20:26

I wouldn't ever. I love this time of year. Ours goes up the 1st weekend of December and doesn't come down until the 6th of January.

expatmigrant · 25/12/2017 20:28

After New Year. We have a real one so want to make the most of it.

Floralnomad · 25/12/2017 20:28

Ours comes down around the 29/30th , I like it all put away and cleaned before dh goes back to work on the 2nd , as he does the putting away and cleaning .

BackforGood · 25/12/2017 20:31

12th night.
If you feel the need to take it down now, then you probably put it up too early.
Why would anyone want to finish Christmas in their house so early in the Christmas holidays ? Confused

Sparklingbrook · 25/12/2017 20:33

Nope, it's been up a week. Plus Christmas can carry on without the tree can't it?

megletthesecond · 25/12/2017 20:33

It comes down NYE here. I try and start January with a reasonably tidy house.

specialsubject · 25/12/2017 20:33

If you followed commercial instructions and had Christmas clashing with halloween, no wonder you are fed up with it.

Nice to have some lights and sparkle for a while longer now the misery will be gone from the shops.

BarbieBrightSide · 25/12/2017 20:36

I like the build up to Christmas but think the tree loses its 'magic' after Christmas and is just a tree with things hanging from it after Christmas Day - a bit like a wedding dress is just a dress after the wedding.

I'd rather get the tree up early and down early, none of this up on Christmas Eve malarkey here!

Evelynismyformerspyname · 25/12/2017 20:36

We only put ours up yesterday morning :o Putting it up is part of our Christmas Eve morning every year, and it comes down on 6th January. It's up for the main part of the Christmas holidays that way (we break up on 23rd and go back on 8th.

I'd hate dragging it out by putting it up before the holidays, then it's holiday destination til it's time to get sorted to go back to school.

ScipioAfricanus · 25/12/2017 20:37

Christmas is not over, as a previous poster says, if you celebrate the 12 days of Christmas as we do. Our tree goes up a week before Christmas and we decorate it as late as possible (Christmas Eve pre-DC) so we keep it up until Epiphany. We don’t celebrate Christmas during advent so it doesn’t feel excessive to continue with it for 12 days. I’m glad school goes back late this year as I never like having the tree up past start of school but it usually is still up by then.

Each to their own (obviously) but I think people might find January less depressing if 6 days of it was still the Christmas season. However if you are a clutter hater I can imagine that wouldn’t appeal.

KrisCringleWinterWonderland · 25/12/2017 20:37

I would much prefer to do 12th night but we have a family birthday on the 27th so we take it down boxing Day to keep the two celebrations separate.

alwaysthepessimist · 25/12/2017 20:38

mine will be gone by the end of this week at the latest - if I could get away with it I would take it down tonight!!

Lovemusic33 · 25/12/2017 20:38

I usually take mine down the day after Boxing Day, I find it quite depressing keeping it up, Christmas is done and finished, time to start a fresh. I love taking them down as the room looks so much bigger and tidier.

HappyAndRelaxed · 25/12/2017 20:38

7th January here Xmas Shock

Sparklingbrook · 25/12/2017 20:38

I don't understand why Christmas has to stop just because there's no longer a decorated tree in the house. Confused

FreshHorizons · 25/12/2017 20:39

I never understand why people want to take it down just as Christmas is starting! Put it up later.

primarnoodle · 25/12/2017 20:41

Tree comes down probs on the 29th but someone above mentioned easter eggs... i kid you not thia is what i saw at my co-op on CHRISTMAS EVE

Taking the tree down!
Notonthestairs · 25/12/2017 20:41

12th night. We put it up on the 22nd December.

SaturndayNight · 25/12/2017 20:42

What a bunch of grinches. Today is the first day of Christmas - it lasts 12 days surely? I admit to being quite itchy to take it down from New Year's Day onwards though...

nigelschristmasham · 25/12/2017 20:42

2nd jan here. And rest of the decs before 12 th night. But gradually de christmas🎄. our house was made for Christmas really-old and fireplacey-so I'm sad to take it all down.
