Taking the tree down!

Is it wrong to consider taking the tree down tomorrow? When is everyone else doing it?? I think last year I did it just after Boxing Day. As the kids get older the presents seem to get bigger and I end up having to rearrange the whole room. Need that tree gone. Does that make me a grinch?

I aim to put our tree up the first weekend in December but this year 10th December. It always comes down on 6 January...

IncyWincyGrownUp · 25/12/2017 20:00

Ours didn’t go up this year for various reasons, but it never makes it to new year. It usually goes up a week before and comes down in the week after Christmas Day.

x2boys · 25/12/2017 20:00

mine only went up on thursday ill take it down the day after new years day my kids dont go back to school untill the 8th of jan

Leyani · 25/12/2017 20:02

But...but...but - Christmas only started today :(

That's the problem with cards and blaring carols and Christmas trees appearing from October, when it's actually Christmas, folk feel they've had enough.

You can guess, a 12th nighter here too

neveradullmoment99 · 25/12/2017 20:05

No way. I hang on to the festive spirit for as much as i can. I have had my tree up since November [ We got a new one and put it up straight away] but normally its the 1st weekend in December we put it up. I love it on New Years eve and keep it up on New Years day but after that, its coming down. Also the kids would be soooo sad if i did this.

Galaxygirl22 · 25/12/2017 20:06

12th night too unless we are back at school before hand. This year we don't go back until the 8th. We didn't put our tree up until Christmas Eve and still have lots of celebrating and family times until just after New a Year. Wouldn't think to be celebrating Christmas and New Year without the tree or without the outdoor lighting.

Firenight · 25/12/2017 20:07

Ours only went up on Saturday - we will keep it until twelfth night and have a celebration then to wrap up the end of the Christmas period. It’s only just started.

12th night was originally the main focus of Christmas - the baptism of Jesus - so there's nothing odd about celebrating until then. I don't personally like decorations up too early.

neveradullmoment99 · 25/12/2017 20:07

Someone said on here that it was the most depressing thing to look at after Christmas.
I find it depressing to take it down!!!

Abra1d · 25/12/2017 20:07

It’s twelfth night here before the tree goes down.

fishybits · 25/12/2017 20:08

12th night, went up yesterday.

Summerisdone · 25/12/2017 20:10

YANBU, it’s great leading up to Christmas but then after that it just feels like it’s in the way and needs to come down ASAP.

Mine comes down on Boxing Day usually, as it’s easier with me being back to work the day after.
This year however I’m back to work tomorrow so it’ll have to wait until weekend.

southboundagain · 25/12/2017 20:11

Epiphany (12th night) here too.

SellFridges · 25/12/2017 20:11

I never used to bother til 12th night. Nowadays it’s usually the 2nd ish - whenever we go back to work. We’ve got a couple of trees this year though, one “fresher” than the other so I might take the big one down later this week.

k2p2k2tog · 25/12/2017 20:12

This is what happens when people put their trees up around Guy Fawkes night.

Ours has been up only about 8 days, will probably take it down 2nd Jan.

HotelEuphoria · 25/12/2017 20:14

Day after Boxing Day.
Every single year.
I am always the first at the recicling centre with my tree 😂

Bluelonerose · 25/12/2017 20:14

I try take mine down new years day.
Mine don't go up till about the 10th though.

I agree with the space thing I want my lounge back but I love looking at the tree though.

Makingahome · 25/12/2017 20:15

Ours only went app on Thursday and already I'm itching to get it down. The lights are blown too.....

Crunchymum · 25/12/2017 20:17

2nd Jan. DP can do it. Way too depressing.

Parker231 · 25/12/2017 20:17

It always comes down the morning of New Years Eve. I like it out of the way and ready for that nights party. Don’t like to leave it any longer as I like everywhere cleaned up before we’re back to work.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 25/12/2017 20:17

12th night here. It doesn't go up till about a week before Christmas. The twelve days of Christmas start with Christmas Day and go on until 5th January. 6th January is Epiphany.

If we didn't start shopping and decorating so ridiculously early, nobody would be sick of all this by Christmas Day itself.

Sparklingbrook · 25/12/2017 20:17

I don't actually like having a tree in the living room TBH. Grin

HamishBamish · 25/12/2017 20:21

Ours goes up on Christmas Eve, so will come down on 12th night. It would be a bit of a waste if it came down sooner.

I love seeing people’s decorations up earlier in December though. Each to their own!

ImtheChristmasCarcass · 25/12/2017 20:22

Ours comes down New Year's Day whilst watching the Rose Parade.
