Taking the tree down!

Is it wrong to consider taking the tree down tomorrow? When is everyone else doing it?? I think last year I did it just after Boxing Day. As the kids get older the presents seem to get bigger and I end up having to rearrange the whole room. Need that tree gone. Does that make me a grinch?

Yes! So much space here but it feels very drab without the lovely decorations up. We had to rearrange furniture to get the tree in and the way it's ended up has given us a lot more space which is lovely but I do miss the twinkly lights and especially the lovely things we had in the window. We're well into our second week of horrible illness here and having the decorations up made it all a bit more bearable

ThePlatypusAlwaysTriumphs · 02/01/2018 15:54

Took ours down today, always makes me feel a bit sad. And living room seems awfully empty!

Teddy1970 · 02/01/2018 20:34

Mine have come down today, the living room looks so bare and huge! I have left the lights on outside though, and a candle arch in the kitchen window, they'll only take 5 minutes to take down, I'll probably take them down tomorrow, other than that all signs of Christmas have gone!

AcrossthePond55 · 02/01/2018 22:46

Teddy, I've left up some a whole bunch of candles, too. They look so nice, even without the decorations and they're not 'Christmassy' (plain ivory) that I'm almost tempted to just leave them. Plus that means I'll 'have' to get new different ones for next Xmas.

DH and DS2 will take down the lights when DH gets back from camping.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/01/2018 22:49

My cats are quite upset that it's all gone. The younger one had a bit of a temper tantrum Grin

HannaSolo · 02/01/2018 23:18

Well I too have de-Christmased the house today.

Every year I seem to buy more decorations Blush so packing up the drawing room, snug, kitchen and dining room seemed to take forever - 2 trees, window lights, wreaths, garlands over fireplaces and millions of candles everywhere.

I think I've definitely peaked on decorations now and MUST tell myself no more next year - if for no other reason I don't want to do 7 trips to the loft storing it all away next year.

The house seems really empty now - I think it always seems to take a while to adjust.

Teddy1970 · 02/01/2018 23:26

AcrossthePond55 I know what you mean, by leaving a few candles here and there you're not quite ready to say goodbye to Christmas yet, almost like a nod to the 12th night! It's all so final otherwise.

babigailwabble · 02/01/2018 23:53

i completely de-christmassed yesterday. we were so ready! today we went house plant shopping Smile

honeyroar · 03/01/2018 00:02

Ours will come down tomorrow. It always depresses me a bit, it means I have to clean the house and there's nothing but damp, dark, dreary January to deal with (and February and March!). I will be buying flowers tomorrow.

Aki99 · 03/01/2018 10:32

After both of us being ill most of November and December I told my husband not to bother going to the effort of putting it up. Lots of decorations but nothing that needs careful putting away - best decision we made

supersop60 · 03/01/2018 10:49

Tree went down yesterday. The rest will come down today - I hate the bare look and am thinking of re-arranging the furniture to make it look less sad. I like it all done before school term starts.

supersop60 · 03/01/2018 10:50

I may get some more greenery and candles too.

Ginkypig · 03/01/2018 10:57

I posted earlier say maybe just before or after new year depending on if I fancied it being up for new year.

As it turned out I wanted everything up at new year then couldn't be arsed to take it down on the first so everything came down yesterday.

What I don't understand is how removing massive objects (tree) and sparkly shit (ceiling Dec/tinsel) Christmas ornaments etc can leave the house looking like it needs a tidy rather than the opposite like I was expecting Sad

speakout · 03/01/2018 11:34

Lovely clean house and a sunny day too.

Already looking forward to Imbolc decorations.

nigelschristmasham · 03/01/2018 13:46

What do you put up for imbolc?

speakout · 03/01/2018 13:54

Lots of candles, tablecloths, straw crosses, bring in snowdrops, pussy willows if they are out. We are having family over for an Imbolc meal.

MarshaBradyo · 03/01/2018 13:57

Tree down today, much better

Twoo · 03/01/2018 14:44

12th night for me, Traditionalist that I am.

noeffingidea · 03/01/2018 14:51

Mines down. I only have a small tree nowadays, so it doesn't make much difference. Bought a new lamp to put in that corner so I don't miss the extra light.

neveradullmoment99 · 03/01/2018 23:12

My tree is still up :)

TheOrigRightsofwomen · 03/01/2018 23:14

Mine's still up. More needles on the floor than on the tree now. Have banned kids from breathing near it!

VeryFoolishFay · 03/01/2018 23:16

Mine is still up. Coming down Saturday - don't have the time or energy before then.

Teddy1970 · 04/01/2018 00:42

Didn't the three wise men visit Jesus on 12th night and that's why it's 12 days of Christmas?

genuineidiot · 04/01/2018 00:47

Mine is still up, just not had the time or energy to take it down and put it away😂 Will probably take it down on Friday though.

Funkyferret · 04/01/2018 01:39

Ours would normally be still up but our tree this year, while lovely when bought, was a rogue bad 'un so it came down yesterday before all we were left with was a stick with balls on it. It feels like the room is the size of a football pitch and oddly, I feel more motivated to get up and at 'em than I have in previous years, despite the gloom of January.
