Taking the tree down!

Is it wrong to consider taking the tree down tomorrow? When is everyone else doing it?? I think last year I did it just after Boxing Day. As the kids get older the presents seem to get bigger and I end up having to rearrange the whole room. Need that tree gone. Does that make me a grinch?

If the tree has been up for a long time why is there no point to putting it up if taken down on Boxing Day oliveinacampervan?

I don't think people are smug about taking it down but trying to say it's down I don't care what people think.

IAmLucy · 26/12/2017 17:28

I don't understand the smugness?

Lindibop · 26/12/2017 17:30

12th night.

It went up on the 23rd

Elsouth · 26/12/2017 17:33

I don't feel in the slightest bit smug about it. I don't really get why anyone would feel smug about it. I just feel relieved it's gone. Christmas isn't a happy time for everyone and before my kids I really didn't enjoy it at all. When they get older I'll leave it up longer but for now it's bye bye tree.

I'm also not religious I just like the concept of giving making others happy and spending time with my family watching classic films. Don't really need my tree for that

Oh here we go. Olive you’re talking reindeer poop honey. There is no-one being smug or emitting moral superiority about taking their tree down today. There is only you and your frankly ridiculous obsession with telling people they are joyless and miserable for what they have done in their own houses where it doesn’t affect you one single bit.

Alidoll · 26/12/2017 17:35

After the new year when I get a moments peace to do it - never before Hogmanay as that’s just sacrilege lol!

I love driving to my work in December seeing the houses all lit up and the street lights on in each of the villages I drive through...absolutely HATE January when they are removed. It’s dark (and normally wet or foggy) with nothing to look forward to until February so bah humbug to everyone who takes it down early!!!

PasstheStarmix · 26/12/2017 17:38

Than I guess I commit sacrilege every year pp

MsPotatoHead2 · 26/12/2017 17:41

Tree comes down 12th night. It's still Christmas, or are we just slaves to consumerism as the retailers don't want Christmas beyond presents on Christmas day?

KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 26/12/2017 17:45

I wonder if the divide here is between those who don’t work outside the home and those who do. As one of the latter, who was slogging away until the end of the last working day before, I am genuinely appalled to hear people say Christmas is over now! For me it’s only bloody started!
Tree will stay up til twelfth night and will cheer my first days back at the grindstone in the new year.

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 26/12/2017 17:46

Yes that’s it. Slaves to consumerism. Definitely nothing to do with just not wanting a silly tree in my living room Grin

pollymere · 26/12/2017 17:59

It's really sad. Tree should be there for 12 days of Christmas, mine went up on 19th. It's supposed to come down on 6 January. Everyone now has them up for advent and is so sick of them takes it down for Christmas!

noeffingidea · 26/12/2017 18:01

Sad for who, pollymere? If it makes you sad then leave yours up until twelth night.

KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 26/12/2017 18:04

But if you think the tree is silly why do it all? Utterly bizarre!!

Blimey this thread. Grin

Has every single angle been covered yet?

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 26/12/2017 18:17

But if you think the tree is silly why do it all? Utterly bizarre!!

For the third time, (second in CAPS) MY CHILDREN WANTED IT UP!

Do people actually read threads before asking questions that have already been answered?

PasstheStarmix · 26/12/2017 18:18

I think it's more when you've had the decs up so long and can't be arsed to do it when Back at work so take them down early!

Sparklingbrook · 26/12/2017 18:19

Who said the tree was silly? Grin

PasstheStarmix · 26/12/2017 18:19

I like to enjoy new year as well so would rather do it in the sluggish inbetween part

KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 26/12/2017 18:20

So your kids want it up and then you snatch it down at the first opportunity???
Merry bloody Christmas! V odd

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 26/12/2017 18:21

I did sparkling Grin stupid sparkly bastard standing there in the corner mocking me. “Oooh look at me, I’ve got lights, and sparkly tinsel and you’ve just got moisturiser” Grin

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 26/12/2017 18:22

So your kids want it up and then you snatch it down at the first opportunity???

No the first opportunity would have been the day it went up. HTH. Merry Christmas to you too. Wink

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 26/12/2017 18:23

And there is no snatching. It’s just packed away. You know like you will with yours?

IAmLucy · 26/12/2017 18:26

Grin @ dramatically snatched down tree

cardibach · 26/12/2017 18:26

Donny strong reactions from both sides? I see people being disgusted that some take theirs down before 6th of January and yet I didn’t even express a preference # just commented on earlier threads and asked a question of another poster for clarification and I got shot down immediately. It seems to me that both sides are reacting strongly.
Pass I didn’t suggest that it was wrong to put the tree up early,I asked a question for clarification. It doesn’t bother me. Why do you think I’m bothered? Do you think anyone asking you a question is bothered about your choice?
