Taking the tree down!

Is it wrong to consider taking the tree down tomorrow? When is everyone else doing it?? I think last year I did it just after Boxing Day. As the kids get older the presents seem to get bigger and I end up having to rearrange the whole room. Need that tree gone. Does that make me a grinch?

I take ours down on New Year's Day whilst listening to the NYD concert in Vienna

Sparklingbrook · 25/12/2017 23:59

I think it is a luxury to get all of Christmas off work. People that work in banking and retail get one or two days off. Back in work on 26th or 27th.

Tringley · 26/12/2017 00:00

Day 1. Christmas Day
Day 2. Stephen's Day, relax and visit relatives.
Day 3. Visit more relatives.
Day 4. Go stay with family in other county for 3 days.
Day 5. Special excursion planned in other county.
Day 6. Last day of visit.
Day 7. New years party/fireworks etc.
Day 8. Pantomime.
Day 9. Ice skating.
Day 10.Having friends over.
Day 11. Visiting friends.
Day 12. Twelfthnight celebrations.
Day 13. Women's Little Christmas so all the female relatives in my dad's family go out.

I tend to take DS out for breakfast that morning, then come home and take down the decorations, which takes hours as my house is decorated from top to bottom in every room. Then I go out and get to enjoy the decorations in the restaurant and pub smug in the knowledge that I don't have taking them down hanging over me. Best of both worlds. I love Christmas though, it's a 6 week holiday in my house starting on the last Friday of November when the tree goes up. It's a full one tenth of the year. Then we cosy up for a hygge style late Jan and February with lots of mountain walks when it's dry and cosy fireside evenings with nice food and chilling out before it's time for a full on Easter! 13th night here

SweetIcedTea · 26/12/2017 00:04

Mine will be down sometime before new year, it always comes down before I go back to work, which this year is the 2nd Jan.

DeepanKrispanEven · 26/12/2017 00:06

YABU. It has to stay till Twelfth Night. Tradition, innit?

ProseccoMamam · 26/12/2017 00:06

Can't believe people are having a virtual scrap over the day a fucking tree is taken down

I literally don't care if you put your tree up in March and take it down in February

And if you care so much that I put my tree up on Christmas Eve and take it down on Boxing Day I'm sorry but that's your weird little problem not mine. Merry Christmas 🎄

Sparklingbrook · 26/12/2017 00:08

I think you can have your own traditions as this thread has shown. I doubt the schools that go back on 3/1 will still have their Christmas trees & decorations still up, even church schools.

Elusiveone · 26/12/2017 00:17

Nope yanbu my tree is going down today and i cannot wait

MrsMoastyToasty · 26/12/2017 00:23

I used to keep the tree up until 6th January. However DH has his birthday on 27th December and likes his birthday to be a totally separate event so it will come down later on boxing day.

oliveinacampervan · 26/12/2017 00:31

@ProseccoMamam

Can't believe people are having a virtual scrap over the day a fucking tree is taken down

In other words, you simply cannot believe people are posting opinions and views that you don't agree with. Wink

And if you care so much that I put my tree up on Christmas Eve and take it down on Boxing Day I'm sorry but that's your weird little problem not mine.

I don't give a fuck. Don't flatter yourself.

Ladybirdbookworm · 26/12/2017 00:42

What curlyhaired said

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 26/12/2017 00:46

Oh olive you so give a crap! 😂

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 26/12/2017 00:47

You’ve put far too much thought into why other people take their tree down for someone who doesn’t give a crap.

Kursk · 26/12/2017 00:52

In my state it’s law that all decorations are down by the 12th night.

Supermagicsmile · 26/12/2017 01:10

I can't believe you're all taking them down so early! We still have presents under ours as we arn't seeing all the family till New Year!

IncyWincyGrownUp · 26/12/2017 01:14

Sparkiling I’m that tired an sleep-deprived that half my brain was wondering how bad the tissues with trees on would chafe my already sore nose.

I think I need sleep (and sudafed with paracetamol)!:o

IncyWincyGrownUp · 26/12/2017 01:16

Super all my gifts have been on the bookcase. Not remotely festive but very tidy!:o

PrincessoftheSea · 26/12/2017 01:32

People take their tree down at Boxing dayShock

Mine comes down 1st of Jan

CakeNinja · 26/12/2017 01:36

Ours comes down on Boxing Day because we go on holiday the day after and we are away for one week, the day after we get back, we are straight back to work/school. No time, no reason to keep it up.
If we weren’t on holiday it would probably come down on New Year’s Day.

juliesaway · 26/12/2017 01:37

It’s a symptom of an immoral society to take the tree down this early, along with attending shops in Boxing Day. Crass commercialism driving people’s behaviour.

llangennith · 26/12/2017 01:40

I’d love to but I’ll stick with tradition and keep it up till 12th night.

Kursk · 26/12/2017 02:54

juliesaway

Very true!!

MadamePince · 26/12/2017 03:32

Ours went up on the 18th and will come down on the 2nd (my first day back at work and teenage dds can put it away while
I'm at work.

I can understand why people who put them up at the end of November are sick of them by Xmas day (which is why mine doesn't go up That early)

Batteriesallgone · 26/12/2017 05:17

i don’t understand why feeling Christmassy from 1-26 Dec then considering it over is evil and consumerist. Just a time shift surely. Due to lots of people not being religious anymore and not caring about Jesus’ baptism, visit from Kings etc, so it becomes more about looking forward and excitement during Dec.

I bet all the people bitching about ‘for some people it’s only about the presents’ still had presents. Just in a different, better way maybe Confused

My tree is coming down today Grin
